Do you have the first box checked (Download winds aloft and real time weather ) under settings/weather? See if that works! TheGetter

It's probably just happenstance that your Comm 1 radio is tuned to ATIS.
Change to a different frequency and save that flight ;D

"eastern1004" is right. That ticker-band you see is the default FS9 ATIS. Just change your Comm 1-frequency. But if you want to read METAR-reports in FS9 without calling the ATIS, how about this nice freeware from flightsim.com?:
FS2004 (ACOF) - Misc. FS2004 METARlive [ Download | View ]
Name: metarliv.zip Size: 52,187 Date: 09-30-2006 Downloads: 774 FS2004 METARlive v0.21. METARlive is an add-on module that allows you to quickly access metar (weather) information for any airport that offers weather observations. This module was mainly implemented due to Flight Simulator's lack of ATIS availability during multiplayer sessions. By Mike Richer.
