There is nothing super shiny about the gold....just standard metallic finish like most painters would do for a painted surface
Paint is unlike the aluminum finsh (Not silver that's a completly different colour) which could be very shiny in real life because it's the metal not paint and is quite a dark colour

It seems quite a bit of commentary has taken place over the past 14 (or so) hours of my absence .... so .... I'll respond as follows .... You're quite right Garry ! It's "very minor" indeed .... and shouldn't bother anyone, like me, whom flies FS aircraft from the panel anyway. I believe this spoiler texturing issue "IS" a texture BMP/model related one. I've checked the wing texture BMP file names and these all appear to be named the same regardless of the model version .... with only the individual models then being different, so, therein is likely where this particular "MINOR ISSUE" lies. I've mentioned it here only because I was wondering if maybe I might have a wrong/earlier model version that was contributing to what I'd noted. for my part .... and I think I can speak for most others also .... I'm just glad decent "FREEWARE" models exist for each of the major Dc10 variants. I do like the way Erick CANTU usually replicated as many variants of a particular aircraft type .... as he saw fit to do .... for "most of" those model projects he produced/completed .... because that's the way it should all be done and which is more than what most payware ever offers. Decent "FREEWARE" DC10 panel/s (plural .... because significant variation exists in respect of the panel/flightdeck configurations of these aircraft) "IS" a problem .... and has always been the case, for FS, right from the very beginning. In my oppinion the best "FREEWARE" DC10 panel currently available, is that by Mike BEAUMANN and Fraser TURNER (SGA) .... with an update by YOO SANG JUN .... file names (FLIGHTSIM.COM) as follows .... ORIGINAL SGA DC10 PANEL = sgadcpnl.zip
UPDATE TO ORIGINAL SGA DC10 PANEL = lightdc.zipThe following are just "GENERAL COMMENTS" .... directed at nobody in particular .... This thread began as an enquiry from "BRANIFFOPS" (and a good one too) in respect of "HAS HJG CONSIDERED THE DC10 ?". To which I responded that we have "pondered" the idea .... but .... that's as far as things had ever progressed. What's followed since should be interpreted as just "GENERAL COMMENTARY" .... intended to recommend/aid peoples enjoyment of these particular aircraft and FS .... and also reveal some of the lesser known upgrades that are available along with some other private DC10 projects too. "All DC10 discussion is welcome here" .... both FS (so long as it's not critical of other peoples "FREEWARE") and realworld too .... and so long as folk don't become under the misaprehension that HJG is definitely going to relaunch the DC10. Forum threads do often take strange twists/turns .... and .... some folk are inclined to "jump in and comment" .... without actually reading what's preceeded .... and which is the only reason why I'm being so repetitive in respect of this particular statement .... because I feel we do need to be clear regarding this. Moving on .... I sneaked the above image in here .... It represents another view of "one of several" new AIR NEW ZEALAND DC10-30 textures Camilo and myself have been fiddling with over past months. There's still quite a bit of work to do in respect of this particular subject/example (ZK-NZL 1976) .... and the other AIR NZ DC10-30 representations we're also planning to cover too, however, I very much doubt each of these new subjects will be completed this year. Thanks Mark!
I have used that panel, its functional, the only quirk for me is, that the coulor of the Concorde primary flight instruments "fall out" of the wunderful environment crying constantly "But I belong to Concorde!" But that can anyone change, if he whishes. The FDE's of SGA are very very good, even for the 10-15. Kind regards

"NO PROBLEM" at all Walter ! YES .... I recall Chris stating (since he'd apparently worked on these FDE's alongside the SGA team) they're, supposedly, accurate to around 5% of actual fidelity (bearing in mind certain FS limitations) .... or there-abouts. Certainly one of the better/more authentic FDE's currently availble for FS. Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi Mark: For me always its a test, to fly an exercise designed for PT-flightschool with another Simplane. If it handels in trim and bank similar to the wunderful PT Tu 154 it has good flying qualities and the SGA DC 10 handles very well, in bank even better than the PT Tu 154. Kind regards Walter

Hi Walter
Interesting that you compare the DC 10 with the Tu-154, I was wondering what that tells you.
They would be no where near the same IRL.
Sureley you need to compare any model with the real thing not another model
It's almost saying that all aircraft handle the same but that can not be further from the truth.
If a DC 10 did handle like a Tu-154 in FS then one of them would be seriously wrong.

I'm not sure, but, I think Walter's possibly referring to "basic FS feel" .... in terms of bank and trim response/feel .... rather than meaning to make actual comparisons between the 2 aircraft types .... because as Garry sais .... there's really no comparison between the 2 types stated.
In other words .... if the SGA DC10 "feels" as good as his PT TU154 .... then he's a happy camper .... since most FS aircraft do feel quite different in respect these particular basic handling characteristics.
I particularly like the feel of our DC8's, the AFG CARAVELLE's, and Garry's BRISTOL FREIGHTER too (each having a nice/slow/very stable sensation which promotes a really great sense of "controlling something/feel") .... in the same sense of what I think Walter's probably trying to communicate.

Hi Mark Hi Garry: Yes the Caravelles "fly"very good also and with the HJG DC-8 I didnt feel something to complain. Hi Garry: No problem! But if you didnt try the PT-Tu 154M take a look. Where do you get a simplane with full working FI panel, electric, hydraulics, pressurized cabin, fuelsystem real procedures for starting her, working weatherradar (with groundmapping, driftestimation, two weather modes: one shows the returns the other attenuation for estimating where the real killers could be, GPS KLN90B which works as the real thing (you can use the King KLN90B handbook), engines, brakes working as the actual weather permits, FDE developed by real TU-154 pilots and they swear its as close to real as one can get in FS9, greatcircle navigation, doppler-radar navigation system, russian RSBN navigation and so on. At the downside: You must study 260 pages of a handbook and you are in a four-man flight deck alone as: FI, FO, Navigator and CAP. The startup will last 20 minutes and no shortcut. But passing the hardships, its really rewarding. No wonder the PT addon was used as procedure trainer for real Tu-154 pilots. AND the BEST of ALL: The PT-Tu 154M didnt wear out as her real siblings. Kind regards Walter

Don't know the TU154 .... but .... if it's that Russian produced simulation then I've heard it's pretty complex/"DARNED GOOD" You might want to try out Garry BRISTOL SUPERFREIGHTER simulation .... a lovely old girl to fly .... even it it is OH ..... s----o .... s----l----o----w .... and .... Prompted by interest expressed in the DC10 within this thread (something I didn't quite anticipate really) I've reviewed what I've got installed .... in conjunction with some of the service packs/upgrades which exist for these aircraft .... the result being that even I've now updated some of my own DC10 files accordingly.
What I've found is, unfortunately, files for these superb simulations do appear to be quite "fragmented" .... probably through Erick's DC10's having once been hosted by FFX, then by SGA, then established on Erick's own VISTALINERS website .... with a number of updates having then been released for these files between FS2002 and FS2004. Therefore it's not difficult to unwittingly end up with the wrong/older files (dates) .... as even I myself have recently discovered/learned.
For example .... I've found there are at least 3 models of varying file dates for just the DC10-30 alone. And something similar also seems to apply in the case of the some of the supporting FDE (AIRCRAFT.CFG and AIR.FILE) data as well.
I've therefore "tried" to identify only the most recent file (date) versions I could find for everything.
It "IS" still very easy to unwittingly end up with "THE WRONG STUFF", but, the following files appear to be the latest downloadable data (in respect of 3D models and FDE only) for this simulation, but, it's important/best to use only those components stated below because not everything some of these files contain is actually relevent/current. In some cases it might be necessary/best to construct new base packs .... to which each of the stated componentsmust then be added ....
DC10-10 ffxg1010.zip .... use this 10 model use FDE from sga10fup.zip
DC10-15 ffxg1015.zip .... use this 15 model (can also be used in 10 base pack for other engine tailpipe/cone configuration) Use FDE from sga10fup.zip
DC10-30 sga1030.zip .... use these 30 and 30F models and both FDE (CFG and AIR data) files.
DC10-30CF/F Use the 30 model from sga1030.zip use FDE (CFG and AIR data) from sga-30f.zip .... or .... use AIR.FILE (only) from sga1030.zip
DC10-30ER Use the 30 model from sga1030.zip use CFG file (only) from sga10fup.zip .... but .... use AIR.FILE (only) from sga1030.zip
DC10-40 sga1040.zip .... use both this 40 model and FDE
DC10-40D sga1040d.zip .... use both this 40D model and FDE
DC10-40I sga1040i.zip .... use both this 40I model and FDE
A bit confusing .... "YES/MAYBE" .... but .... with so many previous hostings and ammendments this's a reflection of how things have evolved .... something none of us have had any control over. Using the above recommended files should, at the very least, see all of the correct/latest version model and FDE data acquired. So far as I can, at this moment, determine .... the most recent release file dates for each of the various MODEL, AIRCRAFT.CFG and AIR.FILE data should check-out as follows ....
DC10-10 MODEL= (model.10/DC1010.mdl) Thursday, 17 July 2003, 8:11:28 p.m. MODEL= (model.15/DC1015.mdl) Thursday, 17 July 2003, 6:32:06 p.m. (I use this model for the other engine tail-pipe configuration) AIRCRAFT.CFG = Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 5:03:50 p.m. AIR.FILE= (SGA1010.air) Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 4:54:38 p.m.

DC10-40 MODEL= (model.40/DC1040.mdl) Friday, 17 September 2004, 2:28:50 p.m. AIRCRAFT.CFG = Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 5:19:38 p.m. AIR.FILE = (SGA1040.air) Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 6:13:46 p.m.
DC10-40D MODEL= (model.40D/DC1040D.mdl) Friday, 17 September 2004, 2:46:34 p.m. AIRCRAFT.CFG = Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 5:33:42 p.m. AIR.FILE = (SGA1040D.air) Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 6:19:56 p.m
DC10-40I MODEL= (model.40I/DC1040I.mdl) Friday, 17 September 2004, 2:37:52 p.m. AIRCRAFT.CFG = Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 5:33:38 p.m. AIR.FILE = (SGA1040I.air) Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 6:27:52 p.m.
DC10-40I(F) .... PLEASE NOTE: This one isn't an official CANTU release. It's just something I created by merging the DC10-40I model and then adjusting the CFG based W&B section accordingly) MODEL= (model.40I/DC1040I.mdl) Friday, 17 September 2004, 2:37:52 p.m. AIRCRAFT.CFG = Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 5:33:38 p.m. AIR.FILE = (SGA1040I.air) Wednesday, 24 December 2003, 6:27:52 p.m.
If one's currently installed file dates don't correspond with those of the above information .... then I wouldn't mind betting one has a wrong/older file version in use.
If anyone knows of any downloadable updates which have content more recent than information above then I, myself, would certainly like to know about it.
PLEASE NOTE: I wouldn't pay too much attention to the actual above indicated "time/hour of day stamping" associated with the above information .... since this can vary a bit on some systems .... but .... the "calendar (day/month/year) data" is quite imperative and should be the determing factor for what's relevent/latest or not.
I don't know if a DC10-10 freighter package was ever released (if it did then it would probably comprise of just a W&B/cargo configuration CFG edit) .... or whether or not any DC10-10 aircraft were converted to freighters .... DC10-10(F) .... I've not, yet, researched.
Other important but less essential update files for these simulations are listed below and contain the following data ....
DC10-30 SERVICE PACK sga-30sp.zip This file comprises of a small number of recommended OPTIONS/CONTROLS/ASSIGNMENTS based edits to trigger PAX and freight door animations per keyboard commands for these DC10-30 models
If I find any other more recent data then I'll edit it into the above information accordingly.
Once again .... some this information could still possiblly be a little confusing, I realise, but, all of the essential data is complete/correct, I think, as listed above.
It's my hope this information might aid greater enjoyment of these fine simulations .... because they really are "QUITE SUPERB".
I've also added 3 more DC10 images (covering the DC10-30CF, DC10-30ER, and DC10-40I(F) .... which I forgot to include previously) to my gallery of these aircraft featured on page 2 of this thread.

Hi Mark, I'm beginning to wonder if you ever sleep Thanks for that wealth of information. I agree the SGA DC10 is absolutely superb, and a landmark model in FS9 history in my opinion. I've had a look at the dates on the files I have at the risk of making things look more confusing. DC10-30 Model 31-03-2004 (the folder, 11-4-2006) AIRCRAFT.CFG 11-04-2006 SGA1030.air 10-04-2004 These are all from paadc10w.zip. DC10F Model 16-03-2004 (the folder, 17-03-2004) AIRCRAFT.CFG 17/03-2004 SFA1030F.air 16-03-2004 These are from SGA30f.zip. The DC10F therefore seems to mirror yours almost exactly. And just as an aside, my KDC10 textures (Netherlands Air Force) use the DC10-30 files. Albert

Just an interesting fact to let all of you know that freeware SGA DC-10s seem to handle and fly better than payware Overland MD-11s.
This made me wish that I could copy cfgs from SGA DC-10s and paste onto Overland MD-11s' cfgs but I was afraid to do so and did not do that out of fear of messing up Overland MD-11s' flying aerodynamics and landings.
Praises to Frank Idone's painting skills for making SGA DC-10s look so good!!! I am still getting comments from people on my DC-10 screenshots asking me how is CLS DC-10 flying not knowing that I am using SGA DC-10s!!!

A posting of that complexity .... I knew I would "COCK IT UP" ;D .... and youre right "TOKOLOSH" because I'm desperately in need of a sleep/holiday You're dead right also in what you've noted regarding the date stamping of some of my critical DC10 file references above .... and I found a few more errors too ..... SO ..... "thanks for that" I've now corrected my references and also edited my original posting accordingly. Everything should be right now ! Why would you want to do that ? ;D The MD11 is a bigger and heavier aircraft .... and it's flying characteristics are therefore a different from those of the DC10. TECHNICALLY SPEAKING .... it could probably be done, but, in order to do it properly, one would have to know "precisely what to edit and where" .... in order to make it all work, or, one could likely "screw" some aspects of the MD11's panel performance .... if it has a panel at all (due to any FDE/gauge relationship that might exist there) .... as well as inviting other issues such as electrical bus, engine startup, COG/weight & balance/fuel load and other problems too. There's a heck of a lot more to such editing than most folk realise .... certainly more than meets the eye ! Mark C AKL/NZ

The models will have different centres of gravity etc.
You cant take one cfg and apply it to another model without changer just about everything
Even if you took too models of the same type and model the centres would be different so you couldn't put the cfg from the HJG 707-320B into the Captain Sim 707-320B and expect it to work
And as Mark points out the DC 10 is a different aeroplane
That would be like adding a DC 8-30 cfg to a DC 8-62
Who's to say that because the MD-11 doesn't fly as well as the DC 10 it's wrong...too many MD-11 have turned over on landing
The MD-11 is much longer than the DC 10 yet has a smaller tailplane.
That won't help the low speed handling much
