The HJG supplied MD80/90 panel files are each fine, but, these do need to be installed "precisely in accordance with the installation instructions which accompaney each individual download" .... or .... problems can/will result
The reason for your experience is likely to be a simple case of just misunderstanding, or otherwise not following, the recommended installation procedure/s.
For the HJG MD88 simulations .... ones best/most appropriate options are either of the following panel versions ....
- MD80 - SPADA PANEL (featuring semi-EFIS instrumentation)
- MD80/B717-200 - SOUTHEY PANEL (featuring EFIS instrumentation)
I'll try'n talk you through (as simply as possible) the recommended installation procedures for each of these panel versions .... as follows ....
SPADA MD80 PANEL INSTALLATION
1. Delete the default Panel folder inside your HJG MD80/80 aircraft base pack.
Install the new panel folder named "panel.md80_spada" inside your HJG MD80/90 aircraft base pack.
PLEASE NOTE .... this panel folder contains all of the required panel BMP and gauge files necessary to complete this panel.
This Panel folder must be "intact" .... so .... "DO NOT" separate any of the supplied components from this folder !
2. Open the HJG MD80/90 AIRCRAFT.CFG folder and edit the PANEL= data line to read precisely as follows ....
Panel=md80_spada
.... and then save this edit.
3. Install the contents (only) of the "PANEL MODULES" folder (2X individual files) inside the FS9 "MODULES" folder .... then locate the FS9.CFG file and add the following edit if it does not already exist there ....
[OLDMODULES]
FSSound.dll=1
.... and then save this edit.
It is recommended that the above edit be "copied & pasted" )precisela as-is) to the CFG file to avoid potential for any typograpgical error. This step is necessary to cancel a harmless "Potentially Incompatible Software" warning that will otherwise appear each time FS boots up.
4. Install the contents (only) of the "FS2004" folder (2X individual files) inside the "FLIGHT SIMULATOR 9" folder.
SOUTHEY MD80 PANEL INSTALLATION
Delete the default Panel folder inside your HJG MD80/80 aircraft base pack.
Install the new panel folder named panel.md80_b717-200_southey" inside your HJG MD80/90 aircraft base pack.
PLEASE NOTE .... this panel folder contains all of the required panel BMP and gauge files necessary to complete this panel.
This Panel folder must be "intact" .... so .... "DO NOT" separate any of the supplied components from this folder !
Open the HJG MD80/90 AIRCRAFT.CFG folder and edit the PANEL= data line to read precisely as follows ....
Panel=md80_b717-200_southey
.... and then save this edit.
Install either of the above panel options "strictly in accordance with each of the steps provided" .... and there's no way in hell these panels can then fail to appear with your HJG MD80/90 aircraft simulations.
