Funny sometimes
.... how when somoene posts an image of an aircraft/airport related scene and folk tend focus/become more interesdted in what appears in the background rather than in the foreground
ANYWAY ....
I was away .... running around parts of Colombia .... and California, Arizona, and Nevada last year when this thread was started.
I never got back home again until late June .... so .... consequently missed this discussion and failed to catch up with it after my return ....
"until just now".
I've had a close look at ALMGUY1's photo and agree with most of the later conclusions regarding the other visible DC8 .... to the following extent ....
- AVIANCA COLOMBIA have never operated DC8's. Around the time this photo was taken their fleet comprised of B707, B720, and B747 aircraft as their primary medium/long haul equipment.
- The aircraft in the backbround "IS DEFINITELY" a DC8 .... and looks to be a series 50 aircraft .... but .... definitely isn't AVIANCA (for the above-stated reason), and certainly isn't CP AIR or AMERICAN FLYERS either (the latter operated -63CF's).
I agree that it's a FAUCETT DEL PERU liveried aircraft .... meaning it could also have been operated by AERONAVES DEL PERU too but in the former carriers livery ....
FAUCETT operated a total of 14 DC8's (4 of which were freighter configurations .... 2 of which were -50's and fit the supposed time frame of ALMGUY1's photo) as follows ....
DC8-33F, C/N # 45269 L/N # 109, N8166A, 1979-1980 (freighter)
DC8-43F, C/N # 45600 L/N # 79, OB-R-1214, 1985-1986 (freighter)
DC8-51, C/N # 45285 L/N # 13, OB-1296 "Santa Rosa", 1986-1989
DC8-52, C/N # 45629 L/N # 171, OB-R-1259 "Santa Teresa", 1982-1987
Dc8-52, C/N 45653 L/N # 266, OB-1268 "Santa Lucia", 1983-1990
DC8-52, C/N #$ 45985 L/N # 336, OB-1438, 1991-1992
DC8-53, C/N # 45420 L/N # 93, OB-R-1223 "Santa Barbara" .... later re-registered OB-1223, 1982-1990 (freighter .... sub-leased from AERONAVES DEL PERU .... leased also by AERONAVES DEL PERU from JAPAN AIR LINES 1981-1989)DC8-61, C/N # 46038 L/N # 429, OB-1452, 1990-1992
DC8-62H/F, C/N # 46132 L/N 535, OB-1618, 1995-1997 (freighter)
Since FAUCETT appear to have operated scheduled international services to the Miami. Florida, USA only .... and which is well within the range of DC8-50 aircraft operating from Lima, Peru, and which I very much doubt would have required a tech-stop at Grand Cayman Island .... I'd therefore be more inclined toward thinking that the other DC8 evident in the background of ALMGUY1's photo is more than likely a freight charter .... operated by FAUCETT .... or possibly its principle shareholder AERONAVES DEL PERU .... as these aircraft were, on occasions, utlised by both carriers as a result of the "co-operative arrangement" that existed between them.
Any mystery could be "AS SIMPLE AS THAT"
