Hi all! Just a quick question to get my first post in this forum over and done with. Did Douglas build any -70 series Dc-8's, or are all -70's converted from the -60 series? Probably an easy question for all you experts but it's something I've been thinking about for a while. I love the Dc-8, especially the -62's and -63's, but I really don't know that much about them other than that they are beautiful machines and really fun to fly in FS. Cheers ..... Mats

Hi Mats
Alll converted..............United and Delta seemed to have been involved at the start of the programme.
The DC8 line had closed quite a few years before the engine was in service.

That's right ! The last DC8 (a -63) was delivered to SAS (SE-DBL) on May 17th 1972. The first of the re-engined 70's (a -72 .... ex UNITED -62 N8971U ) was flight tested on August 15th 1981. All-up .... I think there was something just short of 100 or so cenversions to 70's series .... all bein ex DC8-61, -62, & -63 aircraft. I still prefer the old birds though I just liked the noises they made Mark C AKL/NZ

There is more information here: www.dc-8jet.com/...this is a good resource for production and delivery numbers, with some good articles about the -70 series conversions. Regards, Jim
