Presenting another selection of textures given to us by HJG community painters .... in the form of the following 4 classic SE-210 CARAVELLE subjects ....
AIR INTER SE-210 CARAVELLE 3 F-BNKJ (1980)
AIR INTER SE-210 CARAVELLE 3 F-BNKJ (1981)
AIR INTER .... was once Frances principle domestic airline. It acquired its first two CARAVELLE 3 aircraft during 1966 .... followied by another ten of the type between 1967 and 1970 .... and which were then followed by four ex-AIR FRANCE aircraft between 1971 and 1974. During 1972 AIR INTER took delivery of the first of five stretched CARAVELLE SUPER 12 aircraft .... followed by another seven of the type during the early 1980's. The discovery of wing spar cracks during maintenance innspections forced the French civil aviation authority to issue an airworthiness directive grounding the CARAVELLE SUPER 12 on June 6th 1973 .... but .... was relinquished a few days later, and type permitted to resume services under a restricted COA, after it was appreciated that progression of the cracking had been overestimated. Major modification work was required to address this particular problem and resulted in each individual aircraft being withdeawn from service for some six months .... forcing AIR INTER to lease two CARAVELLE 6N, and a single -6R from other operators in order to maintain uninterrupted schedules. AIR INTER had previously pioneered Category 3 all-weather landings using CARAVELLE aircraft. The airline operated a total of 35 CARAVELLE aircraft between 1966 and 1988 when the last of the type were withdrawn from service during the late 1980's (or was it the mid 1990's ? .... I can't remember). On January 12th 1990 Air Inter, along with UTA FRENCH AIRLINES, were both absorbed into AIR FRANCE.
EUROPE AERO SERVICE SE-210 CARAVELLE 6N F-GBMJ "Valentinois" (1981)
EUROPE AERO SERVICE was established during 1971 upon its purchasing the assets of defunct TRANS-UNION AIRWAYS .... and among which included that airlines two CARAVELLE 3 aircraft, but, these were not used ny the airline and were promptly onsold to SNIAS later during 1971. By early 1978 EAS was confronted with the need to replace its ageing VANGUARD fleet in order to remain competitive within the Medierranean inclusive-tour market. It purchased a single CARAVELLE 6N from CATAIR .... followed by another two ex-CATAIR CARAVELLE 6N aircraft a few months later. The airline also sought authorization to operate B727 or B737 aircraft, but, this was declined by the French civil aviation authority .... and forced the airline to acquire three ex-FUERZA AEREA ARGENTINA CARAVELLE 6N aircraft which had been languishing at Oklahoma city, USA, since their 1975 withdrawal from service during 1975 .... and which then enabled the airline to launch all-jet services along its principle Paris, Mettz, Rennes, Valence, routes .... in addition to air freight services from Paris to Marseille, Tolouse, Algiers, Casablanca, Frankfurt, Milan, Tunis, and Zurich. EAS acquired additional CARAVELLE aircraft during the late 1970's and early 1980's .... eventually operating a fleet of 6N, -6R, and 10B versions .... and for a combined fleet of eight CARAVELLE aircraft by 1981. EAS ran into financial difficulties during 1995 and was eventually declared bankrupt .... finally ceasing operations on March 6th 1995.
THAI AIRWAYS INTERNATIONAL SE-210 CARAVELLE 3 HS-TGL "Chiraprapa" (1970)
If SAS aircraft were once Viking Ships of the skies .... then THAI aircraft must have been their equivalent in Dragon boat form. THAI AIRWAYS INTERNATIONAL was established during 1959 as the international subsidiary of THAI AIRWAYS .... and with the assistance of SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM .... a co-operative partnership which was maintained well into the 1970's and resulted both airlines operating the same aircraft equipment .... from the DC6, to the airlines first jet equipment .... the CV990 during 1962 .... and which were quickly followed by the CARAVELLE 3 from 1963 .... then the DC8 and DC9 from 1970 .... all leased from SAS. A total of 12 CARAVELLE 3 aircraft were operated by THAI between 1963 and 1970. 3 of these aircraft (HS-TGF, HS-TGG, and HS-TGH) remained with the airline from 1963 until 1970 .... whilst the remainder were each short term leases within this period. 2 of these aircraft (C/N # 30 HS-TGJ and later HS-TGL .... and C/N # 170 HS-TGL, a 2nd time, and later OY-RKF) were leased by THAI .... twice .... between 1967 and 1968 and suppored different registrations. One aircraft .... HS-TGI .... was written-off as the result of a landing accident at Hong Kong, Kai Tak International Airport, on June 29th 1967, and during typhoon Anita. Another aircraft .... HS-TGJ .... was damaged as the result of a mid-air collision with a ROYAL THAI AIR FORCE aircraf, over Thailand, on January 21st 1968, but was repaired and later returned to service. And yet another aircraft .... HS-TGK .... was damaged beyond economic repair as the result of a hard landing at Bankok, on July 9th 1969, and later written-off. Introduction of the CARAVELLE 3 enabled THAI to expand its extensive regional jet service network throughout indo-china and to both Tokyo/Japan and Bali/Indonesia.
AIR CALEDONIE INTERNATIONAL SE-210 CARAVELLE 10R F-GFBA (1988)
Noumea based AIR CALEDONIE INTERNATIONAL is the international airline of New caledonia .... a French South Pacific territory (like Tahiti). The airline commenced operations during 1983 .... and was renamed AIR CALIN during the late 1990's. SE-210 CARAVELLE 10B3, F-GEPC, was the mainstay of the airlines international operations between 1983 and 1989. It was occasionally subsituted for SE-210 CARAVELLE 10R F-GFBA .... leased from EUROPE AERO SERVICE and operated in a hybrid scheme (featuring "AIR CALEDONIE INTERNATIONAL" fuselage titles with a reduced version of the airlines Hibiscus flower tail logo over a plain white airframe) when F-GEPC returned to France for maintenance. CARAVELLE's maintained the early services to Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney/Australia .... and Auckland/New Zealand .... until 1989 when it acquired a B737-300. The airline has since operated A310, A320, and A330 aircraft .... and has extended its international route network to include Nadi/Fiji .... Seoul/Korea .... Osaka, and Tokyo/Japan .... and Port Vila/Vanuatu .... whilst also operating domestic services to Wallios, and Futuna. This particular subject represents SE-210 CARAVELLE 10R (sometimes referred to as the -10B1) F-GFBA, C/N # 243. This particular aircraft was produced by SUD AVIATION during 1968 and first flew, as F-WJAM, on February 20th 1968. It was delivered to LTU/LUFTRANSPORT UNTERNEHEMEN (D-ABAV) on February 28th 1962 .... then sold to SAT/SPECIAL AIR TRANSPORT (D-ABAV) during May 1979. It was next sold to EUROPE AERO SERVICE/DIVISION AERO SAHARA (F-GFBA) on March 13th 1986 .... and leased to AIR CALEDONIE INTERNATIONAL between April and June of 1986, and again between July and August of 1988. From 1989 this particular aircraft was stored at Perpignon, France. It was sold to ALTAR BAIL AVIATION (F-GFBA) on March 1st 1993 .... then onsold to SOCIETE NOUvELLE/AIR TOULOUSE INTERNATIONAL (F-GFBA) during 1996 .... and later scrapped .... although its registration was not cancelled until 2011.
Each of these great and historic classics from the 1970's and 1980's have been beautifully painted by Marc CHAIX .... "MERCI MIL FOIS Marc/THANKS A MILLION Marc"
