Hi friends: I am fine tuning the flight dynamics and the panel function for the small thunderbird Tu-124. I choose the VIP version of that airplane, which was flown by GDR in the east German airforce NVA TG 44 in the colours of INTERFLUG. She had no long life with the German "nomenclatura" as it was very noisy inside. So that two airplanes were sold to Irak as personal airplanes for Sadam Hussein. The airplanes were destroyed in the first Gulf-War. Longer used were the three airplanes sold to Indian Airforce and they served as Indira Ghandis personal transport. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:V644_Tupolev_Tu.124_Indian_Air_Force_%288448371894%29.jpgOne crashed killing the pilots but all passengers survived. The reason of the accident was attributed to pilots error flying too slowly on approach. Thanks to its design the Tu-124 needed very short runways, she had an underbelly brake-shield, ground spoilers and a brake-chute. Their engines did not have reversers but were the first turbofans in an airliner so their fuel burn was also comparatively low. She flew on 12 tonns of fuel 2100 km with one hour reserve. The VIP version had a bigger tanks and had a better range. In FS 2004 there is a nice simulation available made by SAMDIM design. Two main problems were reported: The NI-50 navigation system cannot be used as it is interfered by something in the system gauge. The flight dynamics have serious stability deficits. For the moment I am trying to find solutions. Kind regards Walter

"I LIKE" .... these Russian/Soviet-ski birds .... as much as I like/enjoy the odd good/raw/neat "STOLICHNAYA" or "MOSKOVKYA" too. Спасибо/Spaseeba/Thankyou comrade Walter Mark C AKL/NZ

I look forward to hearing of your improvements. I also like the Russian jets, they are so darn quirky, who could fail to love them.

Спасибо/Spaseeba/Thankyou comrade Walter Mark C AKL/NZ Hi Mark:There are also other good Wodkas from Russia on the "western" markets like "Russian Standart" and "Five Lakes" the last one from Siberia. Nastrowje! (means to your health"!) Other nations/government which used the Tu-124K the VIP version where: USSR, China and Czeckoslovakia. For FS9 available are repaints for GDR, Czeckoslovakia, Irak,India and USSR: Hi Canuk:For the time you may play with the Tu-114 or the Tu-104 I have fine tuned and published at AVSIM.SU. Manuals and exampleflights are included and help over the quirks of their exotic navigation. Kind regards Walter

Thanks Walter - anyone else interested, a search at Avsim.ru for "Walter Tausch" or just "Tausch" will reveal the files.

Test flying the tuned Tu-124 K: She flies now stable in pitch and has only very low adverse jaw. The captain commands now over some very util additional instruments: AoA, G-meter and pitch indicator. The navigator has now a more modern NAS computer at his disposal. In the glas nose are located the controls of the NAS system, the Groza radar, the KLN 90B and a fuel computer. The values of fuel burn climb etc aseem still too good: means she would fly on 14 to of fuel 4000 km no wind no reserve with a ground speed of 810 km/h. BUT winds aloft are still present!!! So far as my works go on. KIND REGARDS Walter

Thanks Mark: As I started from a very good simulation my aim is to iron out some problems and fine tune the fuel burn to book values. The looks especially from the glass nose are spectacular and this is something no real pilot can get anymore, good point for FS and for the old Tu´s! Kind regard Walter P.S.: The IAF accident is described here by the officer who conducted the inquiry: tkstales.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/754/I have to add: the reason was NOT inadequate flying speed. The accident itself has some traits common with the Polish AF 101 crash at Smolensk e.g. incorrect altimeter setting in a very demanding landing procedure.

HMMM .... I like that It's a slightly different perspective of any approach than what most of us might be accustomed to Mark C AKL/NZ The real navigators did not love their exposed position having the radar transmitters below their seat. They called that post "egg-coocker". Dont know for what reason..... Walter

I've been playing with it .... "THE TU-124" I mean I'm still (slowly) figuring it out, but, one issue I've confronted is that (unless there's a panel switch that needs to be activated in order to enable nose wheel steering .... OR .... it may lso be that I've activated a switch I shouldn't have whilst on the ground), then, I'm finding this simulations ground steering (generally) to be "TERRIBLE/IMPOSSIBLE You might want to have a look at this particular detail Walter .... as part of your modification/tuning .... OR .... possibly comment accordingly Interesting simulation though ! Mark C AKL/NZ
