Hi Mark: The groundsteering is in differnt handouts of the Tu-124 sometimes a problem, sometimes not. The panel version I am preparing will work like in the original IF used with the adequate airfile and aircraft.cfg. Seems it depends on some parameters of contact points and stability. The switch to enable ground steering is on the left sidepanel (Red circle switch UP control lamp blue circle ON). BUT I have checked that all only "flying" with the Joy-Stick interface as I think the interface gives a much better feeling of the airplane. If all that does not work differential braking is necessary. Standart procedure in the real airplane was: line up with groundsteering on, check the gyros against rwy heading switch off the groundsteering, small correction with the rudder pedals while on ground where still possible; in heavy crosswind, add some differential braking.Besides that in some versions of the simulation esp. at light weights the airplane shakes terribly while rolling on the ground. I have found a solution for that putting the value of pitch stability to 0,5. (chapter FLIGHTTUNING in aircraft.cfg) This also eliminates the pitch oscillation above 500 km/h IAS. Kind regards Walter

"THANKS" Walter .... that (the switch advice) solved my problem .... in fact it's ground handling feels "quite superb" Another issue I'm confronting also (since I don't have a manual or any other reference data for this particular simulation) is once again panel switch related .... in that I can't find which switch, or combination of switches .... main panel or sub panel related .... need being activated in order for the ADI and Standby Horizon instruments (on the main panel) to work ? I tried throwing everything and quickly discovered that wasn't a cvery good idea because an engine shutdown then resulted .... so .... I learned what not to touch .... but even so .... I can't seem to get those 2 main panel intruments to work. I haven't experienced that with my versio of this simulation Apart from my bovementioned ADI/Horizon instrument issue .... and the lack of any supporting documentation too .... this TU124's flight dynamics are (otherwise) "B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L" .... .... in fact I might end up "defecting" .... to the eastern bloc Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi Mark: Regarding Docs: There exists a good english documentation together with Samdims original download. See attachment. The two ADIs: Both work only when the generators are on and working, the transformers on and the upper ADI has its own power switch (red cricle) on the main-panel. If powered, they must be caged by a push-button on the instruments. (red and blue circles at ADI). The green circles refer to the KPPM indicator: While its switch is up it will show the ILS (not the VOR 1!) while down the RSBN course guidance. Kind regards Walter P.S.: My tuned panel will have some more functions. But it will have the fully functional RSBN, mean you can fly to and from stations follow radials/tracks, DME, circlings, area navigation and annoucment of waypoints all like in a military TACAN. The RSBN in reality was the Sowjet TACAN, but on a differnt tecnical basis and differnt frequencies. Attachments:English_Tu-124.zip (832.33 KB)

AH HA.... that's "starting to make sense" to me now These Ruskies certainly function "very differently", ut, the manual lonk you've provided may be very helpful. Just looking at all panel placrding "in Cyrillac" (what else would one find on a Soviet built/operated aircraft) .... after half a bottle of Stolichnaya, or Moskovskaya, then I reckon I could problably write "just like that" too "THANKS" Walter. I'll have another look .... when I can .... probably some time over the next couple of days or so. Mark C AKL/NZ

Got it figured out now .... I think .... Walter Seems .... on my panel version .... there's a switch, or a couple of switches, that must be activated in order to connect whatever power source is required for the ADI and Stanby Horizon instruments to work .... and which are located on (what appears to be) the F/O panel view. THEN .... as you indicated above .... a secondary switch/es, to actually power up each of these intruments, as well as the buttons to uncage both instruments also, each located on the captains panel view. ANYWAY .... "THANKS" to your guidence, and with a little bit of plain "staring at everthying and figuring it all out" over 5 minutes or so too (it does pay to have a reasonably technically orientesd mind when playing with some of these Ruskies aye), another one of the great "TU124 Simulation Mysteries have, for me at least, been solved .... AND .... as may be evident per the following imagery (in comparison with my earlier ones) .... I've also managed to figure out which combination of switches activate the wingtip lighting etc also .... "THIS BLOODY THING" (the TU124) may be contageous/infectious Walter .... in that I might start "liking it" Mark C AKL/NZ

Very interesting and valuable information for the the TU-124.
Great shots of the TU-124 Mark. I'll have to give it a try soon using the provided panel. I have in the past flown the TU-124 but using a B 737 panel. From what I recall the simulation worked quite well.

Hi Hermann: There exists already a newer download from 2009 which comes with the SAMDIM custom panel. As it is self installing and a work of SCS (the fathers of the best Tu-134) its quite fine for playing around and learning the handling with all its interessting features (brake chute, brake-shield, ground spoilers etc.) The only one thing which does not work is the NI-50 navigation system. www.avsimrus.com/f/fs2004-aircrafts-40/scs-co-tu-124-24046.html?action=download&hl=Tu-124Kind regards Walter

Hi Mark:
Seems you are using a panel which is not the SAMDIM´s original. Its is a Tu-124 panel not available at AVSIM.SU. I have only an adaption of that panel for the TU-104 SH the bomber trainer of the Red Army. This panel is very good and sports VOR1 and VOR2 also, but has also the problem of the non working NI-50 navigation system. I think it would be nice to adapt it another time to the Tu-124. Lets see if I have time for that for the moment.
Kind regards
Walter

YEAH .... I think you're right Walter.
What I have .... I've had for a while now, only it's your posting/s (other than an interest in the Soviet stuff too) that motivated me into blowing the dust of this particulasr simulation .... in order to "give it a go"
The panel I have here did came with the product and closely resembles the imagery you've presented, but, I was also, by yesterday, beginning to suspect that what I have may be an earlier release .... since my PANEL.CFG and guage file each appear 2006 dated.
I'll use the link you've provided to update/change what I haven .... when I can.

Just updated .... per Walter's suggestion and link .... and .... "WHAT A DIFFERENCE". If I thought the version I had (dated 2006) was good (after I figured it out) .... THEN .... this's something else positive yet again. I now have things working that I either didn't work before or that didn't know were included and worked .... like the Brake-Shute for instance .... and crew callouts, in Russian, admitedly, but, they're there, and it dosn't require knowledge of the Russsian language, or Rocket Science, to figure out what they're talking about/advising in the line of common aviatio related crew callouts. The 2 AEROFLOT and the CSA textures provided within this later package represent further improvement/are better/more detailed than those of the 2006 package .... as are the supplied custom sounds and FDE too. Based on what I've experienced of this particular simulation to date .... "A VERY REWARDING PACKAGE INDEED" I'll look forward to flying it some more .... AFTER .... I get some work done first BTW and FYI (everyone) .... clicking on the above forum posted link .... my download failed on each of 3 attempts, however (and if anyone else experience this also), when I copied Walter's link across to my Internet Explorer search bar, and tried it again from there, for the 4th time, then, no problem/s resulted and I got the complerte/a good download without any such problem/issues at all .... SO .... bear this in mind Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi: Happy landings! Kind regards Walter P.S.: The landing lights work, but I didnt use them and they are still stowed and off. The manual I have posted works exactly with the 2009 SCS version.

As Mark mentioned previously , I am also unable to down load using the link provided.
Still being somewhat computer illiterate, I was trying to follow Mark's instructions, and was unsuccessful in getting things to work.
Perhaps a bit more tutoring is required. Help please.

In the light green rectangle box, click on the words "HTTP EU Direct".
I hope that is OK for you I think I have an automatic translation in IE checked, might be slightly different words in German and/or Russian. :-)
