FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
(January 2017 revision)
Can I repaint your aircraft?
We are willing to approve repaints of our models "provided we are approached and asked beforehand".
Priority in regard to which particular real world airline liveries get painted first is reserved for HJG painters.
If you wish to repaint one of our aircraft then please post a message in our discussion forum "asking if that particular livery is currently being considered by any of our painters". If it is not then we will most likely grant permission for you to proceed in accordance with certain conditions.
We allow virtual airlines to use and repaint our models. Please note "we do not provide repaint support and with the exception of public version PSD files (which we do offer for our CARAVELLE and MD-80/90 models) "PAINT KITS ARE NOT AVAILABLE" for any of our other models.
Permission for repaints will be granted on a first come first served basis.
When "approved" for release a completed repaint for an HJG model may be uploaded to any site of your choosing so long as the following strict guidelines are adhered to :-
• A complete list of credits must be included with the file.
• All original HJG documentation must be included with any file and in "UNEDITED" form.
• Our models, panels, gauges, modules, sounds, and effects file "may not" be included within any externally uploaded file.
• All such externally uploaded files must remain "free and accessible to the entire FS community".
• HJG reserve the right to import copies of any externally uploaded files intended for use with any of its products and represent these on its website (refer to the HJG EULA document for further information concerning this). This may be done without consultation with the respective author/supplier. In such cases HJG will credit such files to the author/s concerned.
• HJG reserves the right to demand any externally uploaded files not conforming to these or its EULA terms and conditions be removed without notice.
Can I upload my file to the HJG website?
HJG accepts files produced by non-group members provided these meet strict quality requirements. All files are accepted by HJG on a strictly "not to be removed/retracted" once supplied basis. No currently uploaded file may be replaced, copied, duplicated, or otherwise edited though without prior knowledge or consent from HJG administration.
Can I upload your aircraft to my own or any other website?
We do not allow any HJG files to be uploaded to websites other than our own. This applies to aircraft painted by HJG members and uploaded on our website. This does not apply to your own HJG "approved" (by us) repaints. You may preview your own repaints for HJG models if you wish subject to approval first being granted by HJG. You cannot link directly to any of the aircraft files on our website. If you have questions about this policy please post a message in our discussion forum.
How do I install an aircraft?
Installing any of our files on your computer is very easy if you take the time to "read the instruction included within each file download but here is a general outline of good practice.
1. Inside Windows Explorer,double-click the zip archive file.
2. Expand (or "unzip") the archive into a empty/temporary folder on your hard drive.
3. Go to that temporary folder and find the included documentation file. It usually mirrors the zip files name. (example: My_DC-8.ZIP will include the text file My_DC-8.TXT -or- My_DC-8.DOC -or- My_DC-8.RTF)
4. Double-click the documentation file to open it with Windows Note Pad or Word Pad. Inside you'll find easy but detailed instructions on which files and folders need to be moved to where on your system.
When will the next HJG project be released?
It is not HJG policy to set release dates. All HJG projects will be released "when they are finished". Announcement of their release will be made after all new files are uploaded to our server and the download links are verified. When a new project is ready for the public to download it will be announced on our discussion forum. Please visit the forum regularly to keep up-to-date on all new releases, maintenance alerts, and upgrades.
Common Problems.
We can not vouch for the integrity of zip archives that you may download from websites other than our own. These may have been altered against our wishes and therefore we cannot offer technical support arising from any problems you might encounter when using these. However here are some common problems we can point out to you :-
• Aircraft configuration file has wrong AIR file name called out. Using Windows Notepad, open the aircraft.cfg file in the root folder of the subject aircraft. Verify that the "sim=" line contains the exact and correct name of the AIR file in the subject aircrafts root folder, minus the air extension name (pay attention here!). Example: If the subject aircrafts AIR file name is My_DC-8.AIR, then the Aircraft.cfg should contain the line: sim=My_DC-8 and NOT: sim=My_DC-8.AIR. If necessary, edit and save.
• Panel configuration file has wrong path called out. Using Windows Notepad, open the panel.cfg file in the Panel folder of the subject aircraft. The default path for all of our models should be to the default B737-400 panel. If the alias path points to a panel not on your system then edit the alias path to correctly point at another aircraft panel you do have installed on your system. Alternatively, download one of our panels and install it according to the included instructions.
• Sound configuration file has wrong path called out. Using Windows Notepad, open the sound.cfg file in the Sound folder of the subject aircraft. The default path for all of our models should be to the default B737-400's sound folder. If the alias path points to a sound folder not on your system then edit the alias path to correctly point at another aircraft sound folder you do have installed on your system. Alternatively download one of our sound packages (or the many sound packages available at Flightsim.com or Avsim.com) and install it according to the included instructions.
• When editing any of the above files pay very close attention to small details such as spaces, hyphens and underscore characters and the correct backslash character (use "\", don't use "/").
• Only those models marked as being optimized for AI use will appear correctly as AI models in FS2004 (FS9). UI models supplied by HJG are not intended for AI use and may display with missing or non functional animations or result in adverse FPS impact.
