Hi:
As MS already commented about it and offers a makeshift solution, one can deduce they knew what they where doing and did not give a dime for the "colateral demage" it will create. So they seem to solve future attempts by "whistleblowers" of all makes: Nobody can read their CDs full of secrets any more. Reminds me of my active life in an administration: One day all microdiscreaders were removed from our computers "for safety´s sake".
Kind regards
Walter
P.S.: I think I will resurect my old computer disconect it from internet, throw away all programs not necessary for FS and will have at least WinXP and a good Videocard.

I have a working FS now, but haven't really tested many components. I tried the no CD exe but it won't run...any hints???
I've lost Active Sky, registered FSUIPC, and Ultimate Traffic. Given that, I would bet my PMDG 747 is also crap, along with some other payware planes. It's going to be a long and maybe expensive weekend.

How can I prevent the Auto Update that occurs when I shut down my computer? I'm getting ready to shut mine down right now and I can see an update is going to occur when I shut it off.

Go to START, Control Panel, at bottom of CP should be WINDOWS UPDATE, open that and on left side click CHANGE SETTINGS then pick the option you want. I selected check for updates but I decide whether to download.
At the beginning of this fiasco, I hadn't adjusted the WU settings, so Windows downloaded again the bad updates, so had to go back and uninstall them. So, first reset your update options, uninstall anything before Sept 1, and then restart.

The no-CD patch does avoid this problem, you can get it at flyawaysimulation. I would post the link here, but don't know if that's permitted. I did a web search for
flyawaysimulation fs9.1 no-cd patch

I have the no CD patch but can't get it to work. When I replace the original exe (9.1) with the patch exe (also 9.1), it won't run. Any suggestions?? I did note the patch exe is much smaller than the original; maybe be missing some code??

So I haven't used mu PC/FS since the beginning of September until today and a bunch of updates were installed.
Update KB3092627 was most recent installed. Then I opened my sim expecting the situation you have mentioned and my sim opened without problems. I wonder if the entire world collective yelled to MS and one of those updates I downloaded fixed the worldwide mess they did with the KB3086255 update.

Hi:
Hopefully it is so, but no cure for those which are left with a destroyed FS9 like Mike. Nevertheless SHAME on MS!
Walter
P.S.: Does somebody know if FS9 is running under LINUX?

Yes,,,very destroyed I keep finding more and more. Yesterday tried the fly the DC-9-50 and found that several gauge files were corrupted. Fortunately, HJG's file method made the fix easier by just reinstalling the core files for the panels. I estimate it will take me about 6 months to find everything wrong and fix to get me back to where I was Sept. 1. Trust M$ to issue a fix.... that'll be the day. Mike
