AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS .... became a CARVELLE operator from 1962 during which year it took delivery of 3 of these aircraft for its regional services route network.
The airline had entered the jet-age during 1959 and was already a COMET 4 and -4C operator .... and which serviced its longer routes.
CARAVELLE 6N, LV-HGX, named "Aladaran", C/N 019, was the first of these aircraft to be delivered to the airline .... on February 8th 1962 ....
This particular aircraft was built during 1959 and was originally the SUD AVIATION CARAVELLE 3 prototype .... registered F-WJAQ. It was converted to CARAVELLE 6N specifications during September 1960 and re-registered F-BJAQ during 1961 .... then used, by SUD AVIATION, to conduct tropical and high altitude performance tests in Johannesburg, South Africa, during 1961 also, and after which it was again re-registered .... F-WJAK. Upon aquisition by AEROLINEAS ARGNTINAS this aircraft took up the pre-delivery identity LV-PRR .... prior to being re-registered LV-HGX upon delivery to the airline. It served the AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS until April 24th 1973 when it was transferred to the FUERZA AEREA ARGENTINA, as TC-91, and during which time it was also operated by LADE/LINEAS AEREAS DEL ESTADO (the civil wing of the Argentinian Air Force). On May 12th 1975 this aircraft was sold to INTRNATIONAL AIR, as N45SB, and was stored at lawton, Oklahoma, USA. It was next acquired by NEVADA AIR TOURS on February 20th 1978 .... then sold to EUROPE AERO SERVICE, as F-GBMI, on June 6th 1979, and was withdrawn from service and stored at Perpignan, France, from December 1979, and then scrapped during 1983.
On June 29th 1962 CARAVELLE 6N, LV-HGY, named "Sirius", C/N 127, became the second of these aircraft to be delivered to AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS ....
It intially took up the pre-delivery identity of LV-PUQ .... and was re-registered LV-HGY upon delivery to the airline. This particular aircraft was written-off, on July 3rd 1962, as the result of a non-fatal landing accident at Cordoba, Argentina.
LV-HGZ, named "Regel", C/N 149, then became the third CARAVELLE 6N aircraft to be deliverd to the airline.
Like each of its previous sisterships .... it first took up a pre-delivery identity .... LV-PUU .... and was re-registered LV-HGZ upon delivery to AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS on November 14th 1962. This aircraft served the airline until its transfer to the FUERZA AEREA ARGENTINA, as TC-92, on June 26th 1975. It too was then sold to INTERNATIONAL AIR, as N46SB, during 1975, and stored at Lawton, Oklahoma, USA, and was aquired by NEVADA AIRTOURS on January 28th 1978, then sold to EUROPE AERO SERVICE, as F-GMBJ, on December 19th 1978. This particular aircraft was later scrapped at Perpignan, France.
On September 29th 1964, LV-III, named "Antares", C/N 180, became fourth, and final, CARAVELLE 6N aircraft to be delivered to AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS .... taking up a pre-delivery identiry .... LV-PBJ .... before being registered LV-III upon its delivery to the airline.
It served AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS until its transfer to the FUERZA AEREA ARGENTINA, as TC-93, on April 24th 1973. During 1975 it returned to its former civil registration .... LV-III .... and was operated by LADE/LINEAS AEREAS DEL ESTADO. It also was then sold to INTERNATIONAL AIR on May 12th 1975 and stored at Lawton, Oklahoma, USA, then acquired by NEVADA AIR TOURS on February 28th 1978, and sold to EUROPE AERO SERVICE, as F-GMBK, on February 4th 1979. From December 1983 it was operated by Benin, Nigeria, based charter operator OKADA AIR, as 5N-AOY, and was withdrawn from service and stored at Perpignan, France, during August 1989. This particular aircraft was scrapped during October 1990.
CARAVELLE 6N, I-DAXT, C/N 80, was delivered to ALITALIA on October 17th 1961. This particular aircraft was leased by AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS from 1967 until 1968 .... and during which period it operated in a hybrid livery composed of basic late 1960´s era ALITALIA fuselage striping with "AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS" titles and period tail striping.
Upon its return to ALITALIA it remained in service with that airline until February 1977 when it was withdrawn from service and later scrapped at Venice, Italy.
