Hi..
I still use everyday CS's 727 and 707 in my good ol' FS2004 and have made for them quite a few repaints and know the models from head to toe so I can give you a good detailed experience
For me the CS 707 is marvelous, it handles very very well but there are some issues I've corrected by myself, being:
PROS:
- Perfect modeling.. the airplane looks amazing, and it's perfectly modeled
- VC makes you feel you are in the real thing.
- Manual flying is amazing.
- knobs, buttons and selectors are very easy to use (later models like the C-130 had this ridiculous never ending loop in the HDG and CRS know when you use the mousewheel, and also they work backward meaning wheel up, course down).
- Extremely FPS friendly.
- It wont crash or have issues even from going from Win XP to Win 10.... you can trust the 707 will install and work with no issues!
- you may say it's a CON but no FMC crap to deal with... handflying with charts in hand is possible if you are man enough
CONS:
- Full startup and procedures have to be performed in the 2d panels...( it's an old 2006 model though so it's acceptable considering age)
- Flaps drag is quite excessive when in the lower positions, power has to be very high to prevent stalling.
- Usually when you set your Fuel and cargo it goes CTD if you do it in the same screen, you have to set your fuel... load the airplane and go to settings again for the cargo load to prevent this.
- Sounds are quite unrealistic, (and I consider sound is half the simulation) hopefully installing the HJG soundpacks for the 707 save the day and work pefectly in the CS!
- Only the Cargo model has a fully functional VC Flight Engineering panel
- Texturing: the Cargo model lacks texturing in the engines intake fan blades, most users never noticed this but since I've painted this model a lot.. I know!
- VC windows are very very reflective, easily solved by editing the textures (if you know how to)
- Lack of 720 and early 707's, hushkit equipped and maybe those CFM engines military 707's (reason why I ended up in HJG)
- NO EPR settings... you can never kill those engines by overheat!
But don't be fooled, the 707 is worth the money!! and darn it's cheap.. i think it's like 15 bucks!! you will have endless hours of fun with it just like me... I highly highly recommend the CS 707 despite it's drawbacks... but hey! that airplane came up when FS2004 was new so it's been quite a long time and can't compare with the fancy planes of today... the good ol' 707 will do it's job and you will love it. just like me!! I even uploaded a new repaint for it a few weeks ago... makes me wonder... Am i the only one in the world flying the CS FS9 707?
If you wanna go to the older classics like the 720 also like me... hit the HJG download button! I'd say the HJG models fly and handle better than the CS my only complaint is the lack of VC since I was used to the VC since the beginning of FS9. but hey! at least the MADE great quality models for us to fly for free... so thanks HJG.
Have some good 4 engines fun!!
