Hey guys
I'm just curious, when you do your repaints of these magnificent HJG birds, what mipmap settings do you use? When saving in DXTBMP, there's a whole list of options: point, box, triangle, quadratic, Gaussian, etc., etc... I'm trying to find the best possible combination for clarity of textures and performance before I put my Piedmont repaints out to people

When saving in DXTBXP there is a mipmap option include or not include. Best NOT to have them at all.
I have no idea what these other 'mip' settings are.

You don't include them? I find I get a terrible case of the Jaggies if I do.

NVIDIA card especially have fuzzy aircraft without them. Some cards a jagged without mips but that is the minority. Still mips or not there is still only the on or off option in DXTBMP in the form of a check box to include or not.. Also Performance/Quality is to whether of not you leave the textures as 32 bit or whatever or compressed them to DXT3 format. Mips has nothing to do with performance.

on my pc, i save everything without mips. trick to painting while avoiding jaggies: use anti aliasing in your paint program. it'll cure the jaggies in the sim and looks much better, without the need for fuzzy mipmaps.
cheers

There are some older cards (non NVDIA) that produce jaggies in the sim. This is nothing to do with anti alias in the paint programme. These cards need mips.
The problem is not jagged paints but jagged appearance in the sim. I know of folks that get jaggies on paints that are perfectly smooth and anti alias was, as would always be the case, used. This is down to the card they use. As soon as they add the mips the problem vanishes and there is no fuzzyness at all with mips.
That is why the option for mips is there on DXT bmp. But the majority nowdays don't need them.
Anti-alias makes jagged edges smooth. It has nothing to do with fuzzyness

Anti-alias makes jagged edges smooth. It has nothing to do with fuzzyness Garry indeed, and i'm not advocating the thought that anti aliasing in f.i psp does cure fuzzyness,as it has nothing to do with each other. however,i do notice that,on my pc,repaints done without antialiasing used(and there are more then one would think outthere) suffer from the jaggies more then those with aa being used in the paintprogram. keywords being "on my pc" cheers JP.

TBH I can't see why anyone would ever paint without anti alias on. Having it off will always cause stepped edges on the paint so it would be more jagged in FS. FS would not get rid of jaggies in the paint as they are not being caused in FS. Garry
