The story of SOUTHERN WORLD AIR TRANSPORT is a tale of 2 separate operators .... "BOTH THE SAME PEOPLE" .... and both of which failed after a very short period of operation/s Most have probably never heard of SOUTHERN WORLD AIR TRANSPORT, but, it was a NZ air freight operator founded during 1990 and which commenced operations (based at AKL) during 1991. It operated 2 DC-8 SUPER 63F aircraft .... N7043U and N863E .... The airline also occasionally leased-in a DC-8-73F from KALITTA/AIA (for services between NZ and the USA), but, which never supported its livery .... As is the case though with a lot of new startups its required capital was "underestimated" (among other corporate allegations that were postured about the company by opposition operators) and the airline went "TITS UP" later that same year .... just a few months after commencing services. Following the failure of SOUTHERN WORLD AIR TRANSPORT its directors then promptly established another air freight service .... PACIFIC EXPRESS .... and which operated IL-76 freighters, based at AKL, between 1992 and 1993 (tit also had a joint arrangement with POLYNESIAN AIRLINES allowing the use of its B737-300QC), but, the company only lasted for about six months before its licence was cancelled due to what was described by the NZCAD as "the poor condition of its IL-76 aircraft" .... One thing I did notice is that the NZ flag on the starboard side is reversed on one dc-8 and not the other dc8, checked it with photos I found and thats how it is! Odd

There was a time (within the short period of SWA's existence) that N7043U had no NZ flag's at all .... but ... did support a US one down aft .... PHOTO: Bruce DRUM/"Smug Mug"I think it was their first DC-8. If its NZ flags were "one-sided" then that was probably a cost saving measure at the start of operations and which wasn't applied to the 2nd aircraft. The other aircraft .... N863E .... was a later acquisition. Found the following video of N863E shot at LAX and without titles, logos, flags .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpcj6IjldloDon't know if this video was shot on it's delivery flight to AKL/NZ (likely) .... or after SWA's collapse and the aircraft's return to ELECTRA AVIATION. These are 2 I missed .... as I was working pn both Niue Island and in Tahiti at the time in regard to tourism photography for the travel wholesalers. Mark C AKL/NZ

Real world liveries of the Tristar Istanbul Airlines (one already in the downloads, this is a different variant) leased from Air Atlanta wearing very large 1011 tail title! Sky Capital operated the 1F from 2009 to 2014 Kuwait were using the L1011-200 which was acquired from British Airways after the first Gulf War as they recovered their aviation position in the Middle East

For sure BUA would deploy it`s Tristar for the Brazil route, as BCAL did but with DC-10

For the era (airline and livery) represented I've configured it as a TRISTAR 1 .... in keeping with BA's L-1011's as "technically speaking" this seems, to me, to be the best period match. People will be able to use this texture with "any" TRISTAR version we offer though, from the medium range L-1011-1 to the longer ranging -250 (the models are "the same" but the FDE's all differ appropriately) .... so .... it can be "END USER CHOICE" I reckon high density medium range routes into European and Mediterranean tourist destinations .... again as I've configured everything at least. The early TRISTAR's had the payload capacity but didn't really have the range .... until the advent of the L-1011-250 and -500. B-CAL's DC-10's were primarily -30's (some medium range -10's were acquired much later too) and which had good/much better payload range capabilities .... prior to the TRISTAR 250 and -500.
