I've been flying through many different parts of Australia for months now. The entire country is a good mix of pretty much every type of plane you can think of, with airstrips in all sorts of environments. FIFO trips are especially fun! And pretty much every single HJG type has touched down in the country at some point. Today I had enough time for a short trip from Melbourne/YMML to Hobart/YMHB. Using my January 1, 1992, OAG Pocket Flight Guide, I chose Ansett 85 departing at 15:05. The SUNTI SID off of 34 gives one a very nice sweeping turn to the right for the climb. Very bumpy ride today -- I didn't turn off the seatbelt sign, so hopefully the pax were able to hold it for an hour or so. Just now reaching the northern coast of Tasmania. And of course I'm a little off on my descent planning...coming in hot! I floated a little...I'm sure the pax didn't notice. I somehow lost reversers and spoilers...I'll have to have the maintenance folks check that out for me. The brakes are nice and strong, thankfully! And here we are. Eight minutes late, darn it! I'm going to blame the United 747 that held me up on departure. Thanks to everyone here who makes these works of art happen! Matt B. KCLT

Hobart/Tasmania (Tazzy)/Austraaaaaaaaaaaaalya .... that's almost "as low as one can go" in FS.
Think lattitudinally Orban/Stewart Island/NZ may be a bit lower .... but .... there's no way in hell one'll get a B737 (or anything else HJG offer) in there.
I know Antarctica's lower (again lattitudinally) and there are FS add-on scenery representations of it, but, "in FS" some find these tend to "skid" a we bit when loaded. There's a US base in Christchurch/CHC that's used to service McMurdo, from NZ, during the southern summer season .... and which is "NOW".
"NICE" presentation "PARKAVE231" .... but .... NZ's geographically "prettier" (and in some places more challenging too) .... especially if one has the 10 or 20 meter mesh terrain scenery, for NZ, because the M$FS default representation is "really crappy" and not bit like the country appears "in reality".

Thanks, Mark! I do remember last time I was flying around New Zealand that the default terrain left plenty to be desired. I'll be crossing the Tasman probably next weekend, and haven't flown either the DC-8, DC-10, or 707 in a while so it will be one of those. So many choices makes for a hard decision!

Way back in 2012 I made a series of presentations featuring the add-on 20 meter mesh terrain for NZ within the following-linked thread .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/5733/akl-b737-video-shot-yesterdayThe "geography" represented within these presentations "IS" accurate (having been to each of the places represented I can "personally" vouch for this) and will give one an impression as to what the default FS2004 NZ scenery simply "IS NOT" able to deliver/just how far short it falls in reality .... and albeit that this same imagery has also since been "PHOTO-BUCKETED" . A couple of R/W videos included within the above-linked thread too Mark C AKL/NZ
