Been trying to attend to this query for the past couple weeks, but, due to R/W impositions .... along with needing to attend to/prioritize a couple of recent HJG developments (which came as "A COMPLETE SURPRISE" also) .... time and opportunity to do so have been sadly lacking before now.
DC-8 ENGINE ANIMATION REPORT:In response to this particular query (which I initially "misinterpreted") the HJG DC-8- SHIP ONE 1958, -11/-12, -20/-20F, -30/-30F, and 40/-40F 3D models have each been edited. New models for these DC-8 subjects (only) will be offered soon
(not yet released/publicly available, so, don't go seeking them).
Using the recently revised DC-8 SHIP ONE 1958, -11/-12, -20/-20F, 30/-30F, and 40/-40F 3D models
(again not yet released) I can now confidently report as follows ....
The engine startup anomaly resulting in the #2 engine fan animation (located behind the static front grill of the engine) revolving at the same time as that of engine #1 is "FIXED" .... thanks to Paul HAAK's efforts. Engine startup tests using these new 3D models (observed in FS external view and whilst also using the FS auto-start procedure
(CTRL+E)) confirm the #1 engine fan disk amination starts first (around the moment of its startup howl/"the DC-8 mating call" .... if using the HJG supplied sound packs). The Engine #2 fan animation "DOES NOT" now start revolving until around the moment of its startup howl too .... and the same also applies consecutively in regard to both engines #3 and #4 too. Explaining this earlier anomaly is "COMPLEX" .... and since those whom aren't modelers won't understand therefore I'm not going to bother trying to do so .... other than to say we're now satisfied this issue has been
"SATISFACTORILY RESOLVED".The End User whom reported this anomaly is apparently using FS2004, but, precisely the same reported observations would have been evident in FSX too .... as this anomaly was (again) proven to be 3D model related.
The HJG DC-8 simulations, and their panels too, are FS2004 native .... but also .... FSX portable. The HJG sound packs for these simulations are offered as "separate" FS2004 and FSX specific audio, so, always be sure to select the correct audio in accordance with one's FS version of choice.
Reference to WINDOWS 10 was also made within this thread too. It must be appreciated though that the engineering of these DC-8 simulations/panels dates back to 2000/2001 and much earlier WINDOWS OS's. These simulations have evolved through FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, and FSX (portability but not nativity in regard to the latter FS platform). They're known to perform fine in both FS2004 and FSX and within both WINDOWS XP/PRO and WINDOWS 7 OS's. We also know some people have been able to use these simulations, in the same latter 2 FS platforms, and within WINDOWS 10 too .... but ....
"some haven't". It must therefore be appreciated that HJG can't guarantee these simulations will perform faultlessly within the WINDOWS 10 environment.[/b] A particular difficulty that arises here is in regard to what some people term as being compatible/portable and which "IS NOT" necessarily consistent with our/HJG's definition of such. This's an issue I've recently confronted on other forums in regard to people saying this, that, and the other thing is compatible with a particular simulator/WINDOWS OS when such isn't necessarily the case. Obviously HJG has no intention to want to mislead anyone in this regard .... hence this particular HU.
A comment (unrelated to the actual subject of this thread) was also made within this thread in relation to engine shutdowns using the DC-8 panels CP Sub-Panel located Fuel Levers, to the extent these were apparently not working and therefore implicating use of the BATTERY switch in order to shutdown the engines .... apparently in regard to FSX and within the WINDOWS 10 specifically.
Firstly .... the "correct and recommended" engine shutdown procedure for these (and all HJG) simulations is to "MANUALLY" select each of the 4 Fuel Levers "OFF" and in succession .... as is evident within each the following FSX recorded video segments (watch the Fuel Levers and note the engines shutting down in response to these being set to their "CUT-OFF" positions) ....
youtu.be/GMVjAxBU5bM?t=1230youtu.be/ZI3ZSzWzL8c?t=952youtu.be/dQPSdGZ3E5Q?t=1210youtu.be/K6vaODGWu6U?t=1210youtu.be/T2lxNa6nlMQ?t=877Secondly .... on the basis of how the panels (and FDE) for these simulations is engineered to function, the engines "CANNOT" run once the Fuel Levers have been set to their Cut Off positions .... unless WINDOWS 10 is somehow influencing this procedure or the reporter of this difficulty (possibly) has a utility installed (operating in the background) and which may be (again possibly .... since I don't say this's indeed the case) adversely influencing this particular procedure .... we've seen evidence of "this sort of thing" in past years.
Thirdly .... the BATTERY switch in the DC-8 panels is "NOT" engineered to have any relationship with the engine shutdown procedure .... and therefore shouldn't impose any influence's "AT ALL". The BATTERY switch "IS" part of the prescribed engine startup routine (only to connect simulated EXT POWER though), but, "only in regard to establishing the vital ground/air supply" in order to enable engine startup (using the simulated air supply in order to start all 4 engines, or, to start #3 engine only to facilitate starting each of the remaining 3 engines using the #3 engine bleed air system), but, following successful completion of either of these startup procedures the Battery switch is/should then be set to either "OFF" or BATT" positions, but again, this particular feature "CAN'T" (isn't supposed to) influence engine shutdown procedures in any way shape or form.
The only other method of engine shutdown .... and which despite being a default FS procedure "is not" actually recommended for use with the HJG DC-8 panels (or those for CV880/CV990 either .... since these reflect almost precisely the same panel engineering) is to select Keyboard Commands
CTRL+SHIFT+F1. This has the effect of "AUTOMATICALLY" closing the Fuel Levers and therefore forcing all 4 engines to shutdown in unison.
