Growing up in Denver I always loved the WA liveries; especially the Indian head. Also their classic TV ad with a bird relaxing with it's back against the vertical Stab with a martini or champagne in it's hand, and saying: "Western Airlines....the ONLY way to fly!" Mike

A couple more "real classics" from the US west coast .... in the form of PACIFIC SOUTHWEST AIRLINES B732's. One supporting the red/white scheme from the 1960's .... and the other featuring "a smile" over the airlines colourful 1970's introduced pink/orange/red identity. Both of these textures are for the early/pre-1970 production B737-200 P&W JT8D-9 base pack .... PACIFIC SOUTHWEST AIRLINES B737-214 N984PS (1970)PACIFIC SOUTHWEST AIRLINES B737-214 N379PS (1973)More "NICE" additions Erik .... relating to civil aviation on the USA's "Weird'n'Whacky West Coast" during the 60's/70's era Correct me if I'm wrong Erik .... but .... PSA didn't seem to retain it's B737's for long. They seem to have started disposing of them as early as 1973. NZNAC acquired 2 ex-PSA B732's during 1973 and 74 .... ZK-NAK (formerly N983PS) and ZK-NAL (formerly N985PS) .... both of which remained in service in New Zealand until the mid 1980's. AIR NEW ZEALAND sold ZK-NAK to PRESIDENTIAL AIRWAYS (N323XV) .... and ZK-NAL was sold to AIR CAL (N460AC). Mark C AKL/NZ

Hello!
Somehow, I missed this thread until tonight. This is GREAT!! I was raised in California and the Air California, PSA, and Western are particularly exciting to me!
Thank you! Kurt

By the way, PSA operated 737's at different periods of their history. The 727 was definitely their main aircraft, but every few years they'd bring in a few 737's for some of the routes. I never got to ride on one, but I've been passenger on many of their 727's.
Best regards, Kurt

Hi! I rode America West several times and have always liked their original color scheme. I "fly" in the mid-1970's and America West is 80's, but these look so good I'll just have to download and fly them, too! Thanks, best regards, Kurt

Believe this'll be the last of Erik's for this 2023 year .... another ALASKA B732C for the P&W JT8D-17 base pack. "YES" .... this livery "IS" similar to that of the above ALASKA B732 subject, but, if one focuses more intently it'll be observed that "this particular subject/livery" features the partial Gravel Kit .... along with the unpainted skid rail below the port side forward fuselage main deck cargo door (unlike that of the above previewed ALASKA B732C ADD). Note the GK probes/blowers below both engine nacelles. A number of ALASKA B732C's featured GK's .... both the full GK system (with the nose sled) and the partial version featuring the engine located blowers only. ALASKA AIRLIBES B737-290C ADV N142AS (1987)This other livery (as was similarly done in regard to the later version ALASKA livery too .... released during September/October) makes good use of the "GK model" we can offer .... as has also been used for a number of other already released, and to be released, textures as well. Nice last addition Erik Mark C AKL/NZ

In the prime of 737s flying out west in the 1970s and '80s, hybrids weren't necessarily uncommon! Aloha in particular leased a number of 737s in and out over the years, including the former N21SW of Southwest starting in July 1978. It later flew with Nordair and AirCal, and made its way back to Hawaii in 1982. Even though it wore a different scheme from the rest of the Air California fleet, N9014U was still just about as colorful. Leased from United in early 1980, it returned to the Friendly Skies after about 14 months, and flew for them until 1992.

I saw the Air California painted this way, though I can't remember if it was at San Jose or at San Francisco. I thought about doing a plastic model (Airfix) in these colors, though never did. Best regards, Kurt

This next one is a might-have-been, but it fits the theme! Pacific Air Lines had started jet service in 1966 with the 727-100, but it ended up proving too large for most of the routes in their network. In an attempt to right-size the operation, they ordered some 737-200s for delivery in mid-1968. Before this could happen, the merger with Bonanza and West Coast was proposed, and formally occurred on April 17, 1968. As WCA and Bonanza had already invested in the DC-9, the combined company didn't have a place for the 737 in its plans, so the eight 737-293s that had been earmarked for Pacific were sold to Air California instead. Some of them already had assigned registrations, of which N831PC would have been the first.

Continuing Erik's "Once Upon AS Time In The West theme" .... with the following early/pre 1970 production B732 .... PACIFIC AIRLINES B737-293 N831PC (1968)Although the above is a "CONCEPT" livery only (PACIFIC never operated the B732) it's a nice reflection upon what nearly/might have happened had the BONANZA/WEST COAST merger not eventuated (as related above by Erik). This "IS" what the HJG "WHAT IF" theme is really all about .... those aircraft that were mooted (sometimes actually ordered .... and occasionally even delivered/acquired or otherwise seriously considered) by operators but which ultimately failed to come to fruition for whatever historic commercial or political reason/s might have intervened at the time.

Here's one more new one for now: N233TM of Tahoe Air circa 1999. This was a short-lived attempt to maintain service to the South Lake Tahoe Airport on the California side of the lake in response to Reno Air and American ending service there, and used this single 737 operated by Casino Express, intended as an interim plan until MD-80s could be delivered. Service began in June 1999 to Los Angeles, and San Jose was added the following month, but ended in October after blowing through the initial investment, and before any of the planned MD-80s could arrive. Casino Express made out much better, successfully evolving into the charter carrier Xtra Air, and later morphing into the low-cost carrier Avelo Air.
