Pan Am - New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco
TWA - Lambert / St. Louis, New York, Los Angeles

Pan Am operated extensive foreign hubs in addition to their domestic ops. Dont forget Houston Intercontinental KIAH in the immediate years post National Airlines merger.
PAA's big overseas hubs were London Heathrow, Frankfurt Main and Tokyo Narita. PAA operated extensive Inter European services at LHR/FRA while a robust NRT based Inter Asia hub was built.
Within Europe, a shuttle service using 727-100/200s and 737-200s from various points in West Germany to Berlin as well as a very active Europe focused system emanating mostly from FRA. These fed back eventually into the FRA hub which then filled flights back to the US via their 747 fleet.
LHR was rather similar in scope, just a fraction or so smaller than the ops PAA had out of FRA. LHR was mostly a 747 operation but had many connections from the FRA hub using their 727s based there. I traveled on PAA back in the early 90s when they were still flying and remember this system quite well.
TWA operated a modest hub focused upon London Heathrow and Paris Charles DeGaulle during the 70s and 80s. Once the LHR routes were sold off to American Airlines, the Paris CDG hub stood as their sole Europe hub. TWA's Inter European routes seemed to be more focused on French, Italian and Middle East destinations. Their flights into Istanbul were routed from Paris to Zurich, then into Istanbul. TWA employed the 727-100 and -200 extensively on their Europe system, feeding longer haul 747s, L1011's and 767s.
Pan Am's flights were mostly focused through Frankfurt. LHR was a major destination for them but it appeared to me FRA was their "big boy" in the early 90s.
Very different strategies with routes these two carriers had.
With the Pacific, Pan Am and Northwest Orient at Tokyo were the powerhouse operations there alongside JAL before ANA got big. PAA connected onwards to HKG, SEL, TPE, MNL, SIN, BKK and many other points in Asia. China developed slowly as relations warmed, with Beijing and Shanghai coming online in the early to mid 80s.
Pan Am operated a famous "Round the World" service that United later copied in some ways. I believe it originated at JFK, flew to LHR-FRA-BOM-BKK-HKG-NRT-LAX-then back to JFK?? They had one going eastbound and another headed westbound. Flight 1 and Flight 2 I think it was? TWA did a very similar service when they had Pacific rights back in the late 60's/early 70s but those were relinquished.
