Looking GREAT Tony!
I haven't yet installed the AWACS model, but now I will. I remember supporting our contingent of them at Incirlik AB, Turkey during the first Gulf War, now I have to try them out in FS. I remember they seemed to hug every inch of runway at LTAG on departure, we'd send them up in "packages" of fighters, ELINT, strike bombers, recce, tanker support, etc. Each package was around 100-115 planes each time a strike was launched. Do this around 8-9 times daily, ramping up to around 12-13 times daily once the ground war in Kuwait was underway. All you could smell and hear from your dormitory half a kilometer away was JP-4 and the sounds of jets taxying and departing. It was an intense "bee-hive" of activity.
Cheers! John

Even though I'm not really a military fan, there's some great liveries represented there Tony .... these look absolutely great ! I guess these must well'n'truely have replaced the old COMET derived NIMROD's in RAF service Mark C AKL/NZ

They are looking rather nice Tony, can't wait to get my sweaty mitts on them! Do you know if any have been badged up in 54 Squadron markings? Andy

I believe that only 8 Squadron and 23 squadron operate these

54 Squadron "stood up" as the ISTAR Conversion Unit back in September 2005. They are responsible for training 'back office' crew for the Sentry, the Nimrod R1 and (eventually) the Sentinel. I understood they 'borrowed' 23 Squadron aircraft, I just wondered if you had ever seen one with the 54 Sqn markings at any point?

Mark
The Nimrod is still very active
These Boeings replaced the Shackletons after the AEW Nimrod failed.

AH .... OK ! Down here in these deep southern lattitudes we never now hear much about the old NIMROD. We had one visit us (at RNZAF Whenuapai) a few years back .... but .... I think that was a first. Heard about the SHACKLETON "prang" of several years ago .... and knew they'd been withdrawn from service since though. Thanks for that update Garry ! Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi, the aircraft look great and I certainly look forward to adding them to my collection. The RAF have 7 E-3D which are used jointly by 8/23 and 54 Sqn's. The left hand side of the aircraft are in 8 Sqn markings and the right hand side are in 23 Sqn markings. The 54 Sqn badge has been added on the right side below the cockpit windows, like the city of Lincoln shield on the left.
Keep up the good work.

Hmm... strange but true Airliners.net confirms it. Looks like some cutting and pasting in the texture department might be required? Jack

Jack Not for these particular repaints, but if Tony was going to present us with a 2007 Sentry (pretty please Tony ) he would need the 54 Sqn badge - and there seems to be another marking there as well, that I can't identify. BTW I had a peep over at airliners.net, strange how there are so many good closeups of the port nose, but none of the starboard. Maybe Tonks can sort you out Tony? Andy

Hi , sorry to put the cat amongst the pigeons. Should have mentioned the other badge on the right hand side is the NATO shield. The 90th anniversary repaint looks good, the right hand side was painted in 23 Sqns anniversary scheme at the same time. Hope this helps.
