Hello All,
Mark asked me to give a bit more information on the revised FDE which should be forthcoming soon as I was the one who worked on the changes. There were some significant changes in the cfg file, and some minor ones in the air file.
The main goal was to get the nose down more on approach and I think we've got that much better now. There are always some compromises involved in dealing with FS FDE's. You will find the flaps "balloon" a bit more especially at first notch, but much less so at 24 degrees and higher. Just give the stick a bit of forward pressure when first deploying flaps and it won't be much of a problem. The speed brakes should be deployed for most landings; I generally do it at about 500 ft AGL. The drag was cut down a bit on them but should not be too noticable.
Ground handling was improved by some changes in the contact points. I think many of you will also see some better handling in pitch... should be less sensitive to pushes or pulls on the yoke. However, this is dependent on your own control sensitivity settings within FS. Elevator trim was also made less sensitive. You also may note a bit "heavier" feel in roll.
That's about it for now. We're continuing to work on more improvements and feedback is necessary for this. So post here on the forum to let us know what's needed ;D

Nice work on the FDE revisions, Mike. The nose down on approach really makes a big difference ( the first time I used the revised FDE I actually worried I would come in short ). This is starting to become a really good model. I can't wait for the 100 and 200 series and the VC.

Any chance we could have a new Avro RJ100 FDE. As they are the same aircraft, I would think the performance values will be the same. However, could you include the lower engine EGT values on the RJ?

Only the FDE is new.
Right click on both the CFG and AIR file data and they should show a "JANUARY 2008" modified/last modified date.
There's been "NO CHANGE" to the version number of the Aircraft Base Pack file though.
This probably won't alter until there's a major model change .... or .... unless someone else here decides otherwise.

I'm glad that people are finding the revision to be OK so far. I may have more time to work on tweaks as our January thaw appears to be over here in New England. Reality is setting back in with a Nor'easter tonight. At least I got 9 holes in earlier this week Let me know of any issues. Mike

Nice job, Mike - just before flare and touchdown, the nose is pretty much level at 115 kts or so, which looks about right. The nosewheel seems a little 'bouncier' than before during taxi - can this be tightened a little? Keep up the good work!

Thanks to all involved with the BAe146 project - nice piece of work!
I downloaded and installed the latest core files/FDE yesterday and finally got around to taking a quick circuit around the patch before work last night. One thing I noticed (excuse me if it has been reported earlier), is that upon landing, when I apply the brakes during the landing roll, the nosewheel either partially or totally disappears into the runway. Not a show-stopper by any means, just wanted to make sure, that the person working on the FDE knew about it in case he's planning any further "tweaks".
Regards, Scott KJMS (or thereabouts)

Micro and Scott, The stiffness of the front strut can be changed. Some people prefer a bit of "springyness" so that when one applies the brakes the nose dips a bit. Let me know what the "consensus" is. I also noticed that the nose wheel is sitting a bit into the pavement, but other issues were more pressing . I might be able to raise it a bit, but also not sure if it may also be a model issue, so Jon may need to look at it also. Mike

cheers for the input guys, yes the nosewheel will go halfway into the tarmac on braking I found that out last night with some heavy braking to avoid running off the runway after one of my usual late landings

Hello,
I downloaded the "base package" on December 26th, 2007. Does this mean that to update the FDE I must download and install the one available at the "download" page?
Thanks,
Lluís

That's correct !
Despite your downloading the base pack on December 26th 2007 .... the new FDE was uploaded on about "JANUARY 8TH 2008".
You won't need to replace the model .... there's been no changes there at all.
All you need to do is dump the AIRCRAFT.CFG file and AIR.FILE you've had to date .... and replace both of these with the new data provided.
