I really hate to post this but.....
Without making ANY changesto my FS EXCEPT installing (per instructions) the 'new' Convair (in my case, the 880m only) files, I have LOST many, many gauges in two aircraft that I have checked so far; the Cessna 172s and the Aviat (amphib seaplane). All gauges except the Airspeed, Hobbs Meter, #2 VOR, and a couple of engine instruments.
H E L P !!!

Jim, They don't just dissappear You must have uninstalled something with an auto-installer that was linked to those files. Non of our files use the auto installer (.exe) type, and therefore cannot attribute to the loss of default gauges. This is clearly not linked to our panels therefore I am moving the topic. Regards Ben

My point too Ben. No files "disappear" unless some nitwit has made a bad uninstaller, or the user himself have removed them more or less deliberate.... My best guess is that you have removed far to many of the files "per instruction" than you had too. Unfortunately there is no way to recover these unless you dig them out manually from the cab-files on the original Cd's ... Or you have had the luck that the still reside in the Recycle bin ..... But then again, you could of course just get them back from your backup folder...... You do have a backup folder of course? ;D

GaugeExplorer is your friend - it'll point out any missing gauges.

Sorry for asking stupidly, but where did you read which files to remove?

Guess this just isn't my day.....
Dan: Instructions called for the removal of 'old' Convair stuff.
George:
re. GaugeExplorer -
Clicking on Setup.Exe opens a window with Run, etc.
Clicking on Run yields two choices: repair GaugeExplorer or Remove GaugeExplorer.
Checking Repair and selecting Finish shows it being 'installed'.....but to where??
Searching the hd for 'gaugeexplorer.exe' yields nothing.

Apparently the "Removal of old Convair stuff" doesn't exactly comply with your opinion of whats "old Convair stuff" ;-) .....
You can't of course remember which files you removed (instead of just renaming them...?)
For GaugeExplorer I'll leave you to George....

I only had the Convair 880M (in Cathay Pacifif livery). When it came to installing the 'new' gausges, there were some overwrites that took place. One of them had to do with a DC8 gauge. That one I did rename (can't lose my DC8s!) and installed the new one with no apparent change to the DC8s.
That's about it.

But in what you just said you don't mention any removing? There could only be 2 "overwrites" as the new panel only uses two gauges. One of them being a DC8-something gauge)
So the rest you MUST have removed manually ....

The DC8_kln90b.gau is used by both DC-8 and Convair panels (both panels use exactly the same gauge).

To George:
OK...got the GaugeExplorer to work now. I had to re-install it a couple of times and uninstall it and then re-install! Anyway, got it working.
Guesswhat?!?! There's 101 gauges missing! ONly thing is, it doesn't list the gauges, only the aircraft then; Drive\FS2004\Aircraft\Poskey or whatever\panel\panel.cfg.
Then in the window below it states what gauges are used in the respective panel.
Then below that is lists the missing gauges, but does not specify which ones they are.

What do you mean by:
Does it list the missing gauges or doesn't it?

To your earlier question on what I removed: I removed (deleted, if you will) the 'old' Convair 880M I had installed in the Aircraft Folder.
As to the missing gauges:
In GaugeExplorer under Missing Gauges, it lists 101 items such as; Name Used Panelfiles 737-400 D:\FS2004\Aircraft\Lockheed_Jetstar_II\panel\panel.cfg
Highlihgting that (or any other) yields in the window at the bottom:
Name: Same as above Path: Same as above
Uses the following gauges: lists a bunch of gauges
THEN:
Following gauges are missing:
737-400 concorde --------------------------- I don't understand the "concorde" entry, because I KNOW I've had that installed many, many moons ago!
Other entries in that section from other highlighted items are:
kingair boeing777-300 757-200 dradaltg typhoon.oxy mooney_bravo cessna dhhdgmg
and others.
