when you've decide which livery you want to dress up your favorite HJG-aircraft in, why not use the utility to make it visible in the FSX-selection menu?
It's actually quite easy:
download the thumbnail picture belonging to your livery and save it in the according texture folder and rename it "thumbnail.jpg"
Voila!
And while you at editing your aircraft.cfg file when installing the texture, why not add the following two lines in the fltsim section as well:
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner" ui_createdby="Historic Jetliners Group"
This way you can filter your selection on "Historic Jetliners Group" and all your HJG aircraft will display just nicely "free" from all your other aircraft.

Nice one, Dan - both tips really useful for a learner like myself! Cheers - David (EGFE).

Dan
Since you're so good at teaching dummies like myself, I thought I would try to get some help with this program.
I have installed it twice, but could never find the "addon" section that the author mentioned in his readme. Please, help me find how to initialize this program.
Thanks
Larry Gearheart

I haven't got the faintest idea of what you are talking about? What author, what model, what program, what are your trying to install, who said I was good at teaching ....?

Dan
In the readme for the program, the author say this:
* Usage - Run FSX. If no errors occured during installtion, you should see a security warning message. Answer yes (it will be displayed only the first launch)
- A new menu entry in "Addons" has been added. To create a thumbnail for an aircraft, select this aircraft, change view to accomodate a nice screenshot and click on this menu entry. The "all textures" options will generate thumbnails for all repaints of the current aircraft. "All texture (don't overwrite)" will only create images for repaints without a thumbnail file.
If an error occurs during creation of the thumbnail, the screen will turn black and an error message appears. If you are running in full-screen, you would probably switch to desktop to see this message. No message will appear on success.
A 2-3 seconds delay is needed to see this thumbnail in the selection menu.
Please report errors to the email indicated above.
Where is "new menu entry in "Addons"?
I'm sorry that I was not clear the first time.
Thank you

I still do not know what kind of Program you are referring to? At HJG we do not present any form of programs.... so you may revert you question to the "author" who-ever he or she may be. As I don't know which program you are talking about, I'm sorry I cannot help you further....

Ahh... then I would suggest you contacted Michael Heise if you have problems with his program, his a very pleasant chap to chat with, and I'm sure he'll be able to put you straight.
But if your only problem is a missing thumbnail, why not use the method I've described in the very first post in this thread?
Very quick and easy. But of course if you want you own pictures I can only recommend Michaels program.
Btw. His email is in the read.me if I remember correctly.
Good luck.

Thanks
I had overlooked the jpg in the original file, or I would have gone that way long ago. I have read other posts about this program, with other simmers not being able to contact the author. As long as HJG is around, what better support do we need?
Thank you very much

Makes it SO much easier to select the preferred livery (especially in combination with the ui_typerole and ui_createdby fields which I also put to use). And after a few hours work, strictly following your other post about installing HJG aircraft in FSX, I once again have a nice fleet of selected DC8s at my disposal (used to have them in FS9 some years ago). Now all I need to do, is set up a controllers map to put my CH flight controls to work with these wonderful aircraft. Your instructions worked without fail. Many thanks indeed for taking the time to create and post them for our benefit .

In terms of THUMBNAILS .... I believe you'll have to make your own. I think Dan covers this subject within one or other his FSX INSTALLATION turorials .... so .... have a look through these for guidence.
In regard to a VC PANEL for our DC9 series .... as you've correctly observed there isn't one and nor are any planned .... all we offer are very high quality 2D panels which aren't entirely FSX compatible. HJG's 3D DC9 models are designed for FS2004 compatibility primarily .... although these should also run in FSX too. As such .... FS2004 VC's need (I believe) to be built into the 3D model component, but, I understand this may not be necessary in regard to FSX .... although, not being an FSX user myself, I stand to be corrected on this particular point. Even so .... there's no VC DC9 panel version available for FSX .... too my knowledge.
