I tried the "another approach to installing in fsx" one....it looks and sounds easier.

Good idea ;-) My preference too.
Okay then, let's take it step by step. Did you complete step 1? (backing up your FSX.cfg etc. etc.... or how far do you think you have gone approx?

OK, now you need to download your base-pack files files for the E3-D this is available from the very top of the E3 download page the file is called: HJG_Boeing_E3-D_v6.zip
If you have WinXP you'll be able to open the zip file and just click and draw the "HJG Boeing E3-D v6" folder directly in under you newly created "HJG folder".
You should end up with a structure like this ...\SimObjects\HJG\HJG Boeing E3-D v6\ ... (here under several folders like "model", "panel" and "sound" and some files.
Tell me when you get to there....

Great! Now you have to D/L the correct panel and sound files too!. You will find a list of appropriate panels and sounds in the thread "About HJG Aircraft" Please go there and take a peek I can reveal for you already that the Panel should be the E3 CFM56 panel : e3-cfm56_panel.zip The correct sound package would be CFM56 Turbofan (C135 version) "aeromusica_c-135_cfm56.zip" Like before drag the "panel.E3-CFM56" in under your ...\HJG\HJG_panels folder Under your HJG-sounds folder create a folder called "aeromusica_c-135_cfm56" and copy all the files under the "sound" folder in the zip file right in here (most of them has the wav-extension) You should NOT have any sub-folders under your newly created aeromusica.... folder. You should now have the following two structures: ...\HJG\HJG Panels\panel.E3-CFM56\ ...\HJG\HJG Sounds\aeromusica_c-135_cfm56\ Give a nudge when you're clear with this. And don't hesitate to ask me to clarify as I take more than a few steps at a time....

Go to the main page: www.simviation.com/hjg/main.htm and select the downloads link to the left If you scroll down you'll find "other files" and under here: effects. panels and sounds. Got it?
