Mostly all non-default aircraft, unless specifically made for FSX, and FSX'ed textures will have problems showing the textures when you turn on DX10 Preview.
I recommend you turn the thing off, until DX10 will be a de facto standard as DX9 is to day.
If you neither have DX10, VISTA, nor a DX10 capable graphic card, you won't see any difference all the same.
So no reason to have this option turned on.

If you do not have the option to turn it ON, then ignore it ;-) It only apllies to systems with both the OS and the GPU that supports DX10 .... meaning VISTA and top of the pop new Graphic Cards.

I realize this is an old post, but I too had trouble with my textures and found it was most likely due to DX10.
If you look under Settings-Display. Under the Graphics tab right side under Global Options is the box labeled Preview DirectX 10. Just uncheck it. You'll have to restart FSX for it to take effect.

Dan is right on the DX10 issue - I recently installed the entire Fleet of Vickers Super VC-10's , the British Airliner , and they would NOT show with the check mark in the box for DX10,, which is located in your Flight Simulator settings menu screen , under one of the settings menu's of your "FSX" menu's. Just so you all know if you ever decide to install those Vickers Jetliners from , www.vc10.com/ ,, make sure after the install of them, which they come with a self installer - that the check mark is turned "OFF" for DX10 ,, or, you'll have the models show up in the preview screen, but with out any Textures, like I did - dummy me ~ !!

I would never ever install any VC10 other than David Maltybys ... works perfectly in FSX too! www.dmflightsim.co.uk/

I "ABSOLUTELY" agree with that .... and to the extent of adding that, IMHO, it would be a complete waste of ones time, and money, to install any other VC10 offering for FS AND .... if one adds Benoit PLAMONDON's VC10 soundpacks (separate files for FS2004 and FSX ) to the MALTBY package/s (they're compiled especially for the MALTBY VC10 simulations), then, one has a simulation that's of "virtually unbeatable" quality You can read all about these new VC10 soudpacks (and view the audio visual presentation also) "HERE" .... but .... if seeking to source these recommended soundpacks then be sure to select the "correct version" for each of the 2 FS versions ....
