Folks eagerly awaiting the release of our B727 panel revisions will be pleased to learn that we're about to call this project "A WRAP"
George CARTY has been working hard these past few months to revise/improve the original Richard PROBST B727 panel we released here last Christmas .... for better compatibility with the aircraft we currently represent here.
A total of 6 new panels will be released .... featuring 4 different configurations among other differences that are less obvious than the following preview imagery suggests ....
1. B727 PANEL .... featuring a fully functional weather radar set, but, no INS, or AT system ....
This type of panel configuration is intended for use with B727-100 (early), B727-100 (late), & B727-100C/F/QC aircraft.
2. B727 PANEL .... featuring a fully functional weather radar set, and equipped with INS, but, without AT system ....
This type of panel configuration is intended for use with our new B727-100C/F/QC (High Gross Weight), B727-200 (early), & B727-200F (early) aircraft.
3. B727 PANEL .... featuring a fully functional weather radar set, and equipped with both INS, and AT system ....
This type of panel configuration is intended for use with B727-200 ADVC, & B727-200F ADVC aircraft.
4. B727 SUPER 27 PANEL .... featuring a fully functional weather radar set, and equipped with both INS, and AT system .... and with 2 only thrust reverser anunciation lights for the outboard # 1 and # 3 engines ....
This type of panel configuration is intended for use with B727-200 RE SUPER 27, & B727-200 RE SUPER 27 aircraft.
The following typical Main Panel view ....
.... is also complimented by this following additional Landing Panel view ....
.... both of these views are from the B727-200 ADVC panel.
Looking at these images one might think the instrument layouts are identical .... and that's quite correct .... because we didn't want to risk ruining the look of Richard's original panel concept (remember .... this wan't our panel to start with, so, we intend to try to respect Richards work as much as possible), and, to introduce variations of period instrumentation would require more time than either George, or myself, currently have available to invest in an upgrade of such magnitude. What's presented here is practical, fully functional, and perfectly acceptable under the circumstances .... we feel !
HOWEVER .... the above images belie differences which do exist between each of the 6 new panels .... and which don't become obvious until these are running within FS. Most B727 aircraft were powered by different versions of the classic P&W JT8D turbofan engine .... and each of these engines types varied somewhat in both power ratings and fuel flow indications. George has worked to try to callibrate engine instrumentation in accordance with the known operating parameters for each engine type (as accurately as FS will allow) .... and for each of the 6 new panels we will soon release .... which are branded as follows ....
B727-100 (early)
B727-100 (late)
B727-200
B727-200 (P&W JT8D-15)
B727-200 ADVC
B737-200 RE SUPER 27
Users should now note in particular (among other new features added to these panels) that the previously erroneous EPR and other engine related indications are now dramatically improved for all B727 aircraft/engine combinations.
As illustrated above .... all panels now feature a fully functional Weather Radar set .... similar to the unit which accompanies our B7707'720 panels and commanded into view per the old GPS icon which on some panels is renamed "WX", or, "WX/INS" on others. The original GPS has been removed. Some panels are equipped with a fully functional INS .... which is similar that installed in some of our B707/720 panels. Some panels are also equipped a fully functioning AT system ... which does work properly now. And .... all panels now feature Tool Tips to aid the identification of all instrumentation, and fully functional windshield wipers both in Main Panel and Landing Panel viewing modes.
When these panels become publicly available we will also be releasing further updated FDE for all B727 versions .... i.e. new Aircraft Base Packs. Sorry this is happening so soon after the last B727 FDE update .... but .... it is necessary for each these revised panels to work properly.
Some (not all) of the updated B727-200 Aircraft Base Packs will also contain new 3D models too. As a result of this 1 or 2 of our existing textures will need being reuploaded so they can be reapplied to their correct new model versions .... these changes will be few though.
A new "B727-100C/F/QC (High Gross Weight)" Aircraft Base Pack will also be introduced. This is required to better represent the 3 new Royal New Zealand Air Force B727-100 textures which we are about to release ....
RNZAF B727-122QC NZ7271 (1985)
RNZAF B727-122QC NZ7271 (1994)
RNZAF B727-122QC NZ7271 (2001)
These RNZAF aircraft differed from other -100C/F/QF aircraft in that they featured a B727-200 type wing, additional tanking for longer ranges, and were certified for a 178,000 LB MGTOW as opposed to 160,000 and 169,000 LB MGTOW limitations of most other standard B727-100 TYPE aircraft.
As a result of the FDE revisions which have occurred most technically inclined folk will now find our B727's all fly a lot more accurately now .... and some folk who thought they previously flew these aircraft wee will now likely have to learn to fly them all over again. For this reason our original "basic flying guides" for these aircraft have all been revised and will be reposted upon the release of this project.
I'd like to thank my colleagues George CARTY, and Mike MONCE, for the many hours of effort they've both put into this panel and FDE project over these past few months. We also shouldn't forget Richard PROBST too .... who's kind authorization has allowed HJG to both host and upgrade his original panel files .... THANKS GUYS !!!!
George might later want to add any other details I've forgotten cover above.
