Hello,

As a former American Airlines pilot who flew CV-990A's in the 60's, I was very happy to find your website. I did, however, find a glitch in the 990's Sound files. The sound was similar to the noise a playing card clipped to the bike's frame makes as the spokes go past it. It also sounds something like those "Wheel of Fortune" machines that click-click-click as the numbers go past the pointer. I downloaded the Sound files a second time, thinking that last night's first download had been corrupted, but the same sound occurred, even when the the "Create a Flight" screen was displayed before clicking "Fly Now."

To isolate the sound, I changed wav file names one at a time to keep it from functioning, and reloaded the aircraft. If the sound continued, I restored that file, and did the same to the next one.

The sound stopped when I changed the name of the cv880sw_inverters.wav file.

There is still an intermittent sound when the aircraft appears, but that one stops on its own.

If I'm not the only one who had this problem, perhaps one of the developers might want to look into it.

The CONVAIR panel Inverter sound, like the Trim sound too, are 2 of very few aspects of our CV880 and CV990 modelling that we (myself & Benoit/"AEROMUSICA) took liberties with .... simply because, with none of these aircraft now in-service, we were unable to get authentic Inverter sounds like those provided with our other aircraft.

Both the Inverter and Trim sounds we used for our CONVAIR panels actually came from a B727 ! ;D

If you feel they are more appropriate, you could, if you desire, substitute the existing CV880/CV990 Inverter sound for those supplied with either our DC8 panels gauges/core files, or, our B707 panels gauges core files packages .... and then rename these according to the CONVAIR panel Inverter sound convention to replace the original WAV supplied.

3 different types of Inverter sounds are provided within the B707 panels gauges/core files .... so .... take your pick !

In the case of our CV880, CV990, and DC8 panels, these inverter sounds activate .... intentionally .... as soon as one selects any of these aircraft from the FS Aircraft Selection Menu .... but only if one has our CV880, CV990, or DC8 panels , and FDE installed.

Since you mentioned Trim sounds, I also disabled that one when I heard it while trimming, because it sounded much like the intermittent sound I mentioned above.

I have no complaints about your model, and was even more impressed with it when I saw the Kruger flaps deployed when the trailing edge flaps were down.

I just read the "CV880 & CV990 Panels Installation..." document. According to that document, older/previous versions of panels and gauges should be removed before installing new versions.

I originally downloaded and installed the Base Pack airplane, followed by the Core Files/Gauges, then the CV880/990A Panel. Do I need to remove the CV880/990A Panel and the Core Files?Gauges, then install just the CV880/990A Panel? Or is the Core Files/Gauges installation required to be in place prior to installing the CV880/990A Panel?

In short, do I need to redo my panel installation or is the way I installed it alright?

"NEGATIVE" on that Art .... so long as your recent CV880 and CV990 panel installataions are "RECENT" .... and for the first time .... and using files available from this/our website only.

When I say "RECENT" .... I mean since the "LAST UPDATED" date which appears on the website download pages and as applies to each installable component.

If you got your files from anywhere else .... or .... before the indicated "LAST UPDATED DATE" then you should replace them with the latest version provided.

If in any doubt at all .... then replace "EVERYTHING" anyway !

Hi!
I am a new user of HJG and after my first download today (a CV 990A) I have a big problem with the panel: I can see only the "basic" panel - without the gauges! There are only black spots to see where the gauges sholud be.....! What is wrong here? Can someone help me, please.

Did you d/l the panel 'core' files along with the 990 panel file?

"SKY KING" is correct !

What you report is a classic symptom of not downloading and installing the PANEL GAUGES/CORE FILES package. Remember .... both the PANELS and PANEL GAUGES/CORE FILES are indeed "separate packages".

The PANEL GAUGES/CORE FILES contains all the Panel GAUGES, and Panel WAV sounds.

The contents of the Gauges folder muust ne installed inside your FS "GAUGES" folder.

The contents of the Sounds folder must be installed inside you FS "SOUND" folder .... not the "sound folder of your Aircraft Base Pack.

Do all of this correctly .... as per the installation instructions .... and you shouldn't have any problems at all.

I did all the installations a second time and now a/c and panel are working! Maybe I did something wrong on the first run - thanks all for your help! But something seems strange to me: there is a continuous unususal squealing sound in the background of the cockpit. That cannot be a warning bell - it sounds very displaced....!

"NO" .... what you're hearing there is quite normal .... and is intentional !

That constant "whine" is the INVERTER sound.

Each of our panels have these sounds .... often different tones and effects due to our simulating different aircraft/equipment. In fact some of these tones have been recorded from the actual aircraft represented .... whilst others .... and the CV880 & CV990 do fall into this categeory .... we've had to improvise/guess at !

This sound is what one generally hears on the flightdeck (and to a much lesser extent in the cabin too .... if one is sufficiuetly observant) aboard most commercial jetliners when the aircraft is on the ground, between flights, and the engines are shutdown and the aircraft is drawing its energy supply from any ground source .... as would be the case for B707/720, B727, CV880, CV990, CARAVELLE, and DC8 aircraft.

All intentional .... and quite "AUTHENTIC" too !

Hi Tony,
Just thought I'd mention this If you alias the panel to the Default 747-400 you need to change
the Autopilot entry in the Convair 880 to the autopilot from the default aircraft
cfg 747-400. the reason for this is that otherwise the IRS\Mach speed hold won't hold the speed I've experienced this myself. I use the default 747-400 panel because i'm spoiled to the
GPS. Not exactly historically correct but it works for me if you don't do this the auto pilot won't work or the FD. try this yourself and see what you get.

One can use the MSFS B744 of course, but, the fact remains that these aircraft (CV880 and CV990) didn't have AT systems .... so ..... what you feel is missing from the AP section of the CFG file is not an omission at all .... bur rather .... it's actually "intentional"

Remember .... all of our aircraft are intended to be flown with the custom panels provided by HJG .... first and foremost and despite default MSFS assignments .... and their FDE reflects that
