I am just wondering how to retrofit an INS into the DC-8-60s panels.
Can anyone help me.

If you're referring to INS like that which we have installed in some of our B707 & B727 panels .... then I'm not so sure that's possible without imposing (upon us) a major panel re-write. We (George & myself) were toiling with this idea quite a few months back, but, it's one of those things, among many other ideas too, that we haven't yet been able to advance .... due to other priorities. Whether or not we do eventually integrate our current INS with any of our DC8 panels remains to be seen .... and is really dependent on George's availability (time etc) in order to be able to do so for us. Sorry I can't be more definitive than this ! It "might" be possible for you to incorporate a freeware version INS into these DC8 panels , but, you'd have to undertake to do this yourself, and, we'd be unable to provide support for it. Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to flight simming, and to HJG. How can I get the outer landing lights to deploy on the DC-8-50? I've tried the panel, and w, t, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Great work, and I am awed the DC-8. I remember them at O'hare until my early 20's. Mack

I can't answer your question, but as I recall the wing-mounted landing lights [on the real ones] were between the engines, not outboard of them. They might not be modeled on HJG aircraft. I notice mine don't seem to have them either. I'm sure a HJG person will be along to perhaps enlighten us.

To be perfectly honest .... with "EVERYONE" .... I'm not sure either.
This then being 1 of the few DC8 details I'm not actually familiar with .... in respect of our simulation of these aircraft.
I thought, on the basis of commentary over the past sevral years, that these lighting details were modelled .... BUT THEN AGAIN .... I could be confusing this with details modelled into our B707/720 simulations.
I'd rather Dee WALDRON, our DC8 modeller, to comment definitively regarding this ... when he's available to do so !

Yeah... (this is me, scratching my head...) The retractable landing lights (located between the engines, way aft just in front of the flaps) are indeed modeled. But I don't remember how to make them work. In the original readme file that I wrote and included with the models, there was instructions concerning this. I think we should post a new thread on this topic inside this section, so more people will see it. ;D Dee

Actually Dee .... "IF" you .... or anyone else either .... can remember how to make those light work .... then I'll eventually add those notes to my current DC8 support notes .... which will in turn all eventually be moved to this new forum page anyway.

Options, Controls, Assignments...on the assignments list scroll down until you see the "tailhook up/down" command...choose a keyboard or joystick assignment. Enjoy!

Well, it seems, for me anyway, that works for the -61 but not the -50 Series. And.....while it looks like there's a light on from the outside, from the cockpit it does not show.

I did a bit of research regarding this issue, and this is what I came up with.
DC-8-40\30 and DC-8-62
When the "wing lights" switch is placed in the "extend" position, a message saying "tailhook" extending comes on and the inner wing root lights come on and the outer (between the engines) lights extend and come on. When switched to the "retract" position the lights shut off and retract.
The above operation does not have the same results on the DC-8-50 and only the wing root lights come on, and no Tailhook message is received, so I guess something is missing in the aircraft cfg maybe?

Just checked the various Aircaft cfg's and "yes" the Tailhook section is missing on the aicraft cfg. and I think this is the reason the out board landing lights are not extending.

Hey.....you're a genius !! All the DC-8s I have [-50, -50F, -61, -62, and -71] had that section EXCEPT the -50. After copying that into the *.cfg file [and assinging a key to the Tailhook command], I now have outboard landing lights on all my DC-8s. THANKS!

You're welcome. Sometimes I get lucky. Actually, I found that it was not even necessary to assign a key command in the "Assignment" section.
