Just bear-in-mind .... that my above recomended edits are really "the bare basics/an interim solution only" .... but .... "WILL" result in the improvements recorded above. To get these simulations flying "right on spec" .... as good as can be achieved (at least) given certain FS limitations .... then further edits need being applied to other sections of each CFG .... some of which are quite extensive (remember since 2005 the DC8's have received "the least" FDE attention of the entire HJG flightline) and do, necessarily, vary for each aircraft version. This's because of the wing modiifications that were applied between the DC8-10 and -40 series (and which "IS" quite practiceable in regard to FDE editing) and resulted in the real world aircraft slowly being able to meet DOUGLAS' payload/range and airspeed performance projections .... since the original aircraft version (the DC8-11) underperformed quite badly until modified .... and subject to further modifications it got better which each successive model version. Since posting the above interim edit and test results .... I've already further edited my own FDE's for these 2 simulations .... and the performances I'm now recording .... "ARE" very encouraging indeed (a bit different) .... and "ARE" also akin to how the real world aircraft was capable of performing too. Again .... because some of these edits are "different" for each aircraft version, and quite complex too, I'm reluctant to post them here. since I fear some folk might only end up making "a mess of things" .... so .... I beg patience on the part of the End User Best to await (as long as some of you have already waited .... can't be helped though) for the final/complete FDE edits. Mark C AKL/NZ

Door/Exit keyboard commands remain the same throughout the HJG DC8 series .... but .... the door animations do vary according to aircraft type/class and as follows .... DC-8 PAX VERSIONS .... keyboard command SHIFT + E opens Door 1L (only)DC-8 FREIGHTER VERSIONS - keyboard command SHIFT + E opens Door 2L (only)PLEASE NOTE: The port side forward fuselage maindeck cargo door on all HJG DC-8-F models animates also .... as per the following DC-8-61F image .... and per SHIFT (pause) + E2 keyboard commands, but, have also been known to be a "somewhat temporamental combination of keyboard commands on some installations. In the case of the above ARCA COLOMBIA image .... something, on my system, was changed by something else a little while back, and I've since "lost the ability" to open the maindeck cargo door on all DC-8-F models .... and to also control individual engine thrust too per E (number) keyoard commands too for those FS aircraft with this particular feature .... and I'm not sure how to reintate these commands again (eveything within FS OPTIONS/SETTINGS/ASSIGNMENTS seems to be OK though), so, if anyone out there has some advice (not often I end up calling for help), then, I'm all eyes and ears DC-8 FREIGHTER VERSIONS - SHIFT (pause) = E2 keyboard commands open the port side forward fuselage maindeck cargo doorAll of the above-stated Door/Exit keyboard commands remain true of FS2004, but, I'm not sure in the case of FSX .... since the HJG DC8's can be used in FSX,n but, aren't FSX-native Mark C AKL/NZ

Pallets and cargo containers can also be rolled forward into the doorway with the "Lavatory Dump" key command (also known as the water rudder).

"YES" there is .... though it's not in the form of a button/knob/switch to aim for. It's a "SILENT" hot-spot .... located about that area of the panel described described .... above the Bowtie Annunciator. Just feel around there with your Mouse Cursor .... and you "WILL" find it ! Having found that spot .... clicking on it, once only, will cancel the flashing red AP Disconnect lamp. Mark C AKL/NZ Hello ! As an alternate way of cancelling the flashing red AP disconnect lite, you can ,providing you have assigned a button on your yoke/stick to toggle A/P on/off push this button just like on the real DC-9. It goes like this : With A/P active, you push on the button previously mentioned. This will turn off A/P, then push it a 2.nd time and the red flashing A/P lite will go off. However :The A/P I programmed for Stellan will not accept "Autopilot on" by other means than mouseclick on the handle . With kind regards, Geir

Hi all, I am trying to fly the DC-9 series, and after carefully downloading and matching the correct panels to airplanes, i cannot get the flaps to extend on any of the DC-9s, i currently have the -10, -20, -30, -30F, -32CF & -33CF models installed, with panels matched to models. but i try to extend the flaps using either F7 key or the flap lever in the panel and the flaps start to extend, then snap back to full up. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Tia welcome to the forums.
I was just wondering, did you turn on both hydraulic pumps on the secondary instrument panel?
Cheers,
Nathan

Hi Tia welcome to the forums. I was just wondering, did you turn on both hydraulic pumps on the secondary instrument panel? Cheers, Nathan Many thanks Nathan, i don't think i did have all the HYD pumps working... Also is there a better version of the KLN90-B GPS that allows going through the menus? I was flying the DC8-50 and missed a radio call (got distracted) and the flight plan was cancelled, but after refiling the flight plan the GPS went all the way back to the start of the plan and the KLN in the DC8 does not allow alot to happen in terms of functionality Tia

Hi Tia, the KLN-90b used in the sim is a basic one and doesn’t have the ability to scroll forward to fly from a particular leg. I use the very accurate INS system and will be creating a tutorial video in the HJG YouTube channel very soon, so I don’t really have that problem. The INS works independently from the flight plan loaded into the sim. You do have 3 options if something similar to what happened to you, happens again. The first is to carry the flight on using VFR atc, but fly as if it was IFR. The second is to use Pete Dawson’s AutoSave 1.501 link. AutoSave constantly saves all of your sim settings every minute including the GPS data. All you have to do when tragedy strikes is, exit the Sim. Restart but start flying from the saved flights menu. There you will see all of the Autostarts saved. Pick one from a few minutes before, so that it’s before ATC canx and resume your flight using that saved flight. ATC will soon contact you and this time you will be able to reply. It’s also great if the sim crashes for some reason as it will have saved the flight each minute for the previous ten. Or third would be to follow Walter’s advice... The link to the aircraft is here . I hope this is of some help Cheers, Nathan. p.s. All of these details are for FS2004 (FS9) only.

Thanks for you help there Nathan With regard to the landing gear and flaps .... Nathan is absolutely correct. Using the HJG supplied DC-9 panels all 4 hydraulics switches must be select "ON". Select keyboard commands "SHIFT+2" (or click on the small white triangle located roughly in the senter of the main panel) to command the secondary engine instruments and hydraulics system panel into view .... and you'll see those 4 switches those 4 switches there. The 2 center switches in particular need to be set to their "HI" (fully up .... 2 clicks) position in order for the flaps and landing gear to be able to work. Please refer to Section/PP3 and note "6.0:MAIN PANL - SECONDARY ENGINE INSTRUMENTS FLAP AND GEAR RETRACTION/HYDRAULICS" within our following forum based online manual for the DC-9's .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/3435/hjg-panel-installation-handling-notesPLEASE NOTE: The supporting illustrations within this manual were recently rendered "IN-OP" .... compliments of PHOTOBUCKET .... it will be a while before I can fully restore these references, but, the accompanying explanatory text is all "totally unaffected".If you (anyone) is new to the HJG DC-9's then familiarizing oneself with this manual is "essential" .... as it not only explains the product composition (models, panels, and soundpacks) and their installation .... BUT .... also features APU and engine startup tutorials .... along with basic flying guides for each DC-9 version presented (since performances among these do differ). In fact most of .... if not all of .... everything that's essential to be known/understood in order to get the very best out of these simulations is presented within the above linked document. Nathan ... .your video tutorial is "a good idea" Mark C AKL/NZ

YEP .... it might all seem complex/daunting "at first" .... but really .... and like everything else it's just a simple matter of becoming accustomed to the panel/ familiar with where everything's located, then remembering it/the lay out, and then following the outlined procedures .... which are pretty straight-forward. Once learned, and remembered (thrugh constant use), you'll be able to run these panel in your sleep .... truly I noticed he suffix in your forum name .... "NZ".. Are you NZ located ? Mark C AKL/NZ
