Hi
Two questions please:
1. I have the altitude callouts in my SOUND directory but do not hear any when landing. Is there a cmd line missing in a file somewhere ?
2. Regarding the AP - on the pitch selector - what function does the G/P ext have and what does G/P stand for or is it INOP on the panel ?
Thanks Trevor

Although GPWS call-outs are included within the DC8 Core Files package (sound elements) .... only the DC8-70 series panels are set up to use these. We opted for historical accuracey here .... in that DC8 aircraft earlier than the 70's series are not equipped with altitude call-outs. Here's an extract from the revised DC8 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES information I'm currently preparing .... "On the basis of advice sought from realworld DC8 aircrew changes have been made to GPWS call-outs and other warnings in all HJG DC8 panels. DC8 SHIP ONE 1958 through DC8-63 panels .... intentionally .... no longer feature GPWS altitude call-outs. Only the DC8-70 panels now feature GPWS altitude call-outs. DC8 SHIP ONE 1958 through DC8-40 panels .... intentionally .... no longer feature GLIDESLOPE, SINK RATE, TERRAIN, PULL-UP, TOO LOW FLAP, and TOO LOW GEAR warnings. These advisories now apply to DC8-50 through DC8-70 panels only"Probably something to do with GPS which these panels don't feature .... other than the KLN90B system .... but .... this's also one (the only) aspect of our DC8 AP which, in all the years I've been flying these, I've never ever actually used I suggest ignoring it ! Just resort to conventional radio navigation system using the AP .... and you'll be fine ! Mark C BOG/CO

Thanks Mark
But as HJG's official "walking encyclopedia", I was expecting a MUCH MORE detailed answer to Q2 ;D ;D ;D

G/P stands for Glide Path. The G/P Ext function was only on the older models, -50 Series and earlier. I never used that function, but it was supposed to "Extend" the Glide Slope in the event of the failure of the G/S signal.
