On my DC-8's (-10, -20, -30, -50 series only), I hit "y"" on the keyboard to start slewing to back the plane away from the gate. I hit the "y" again to stop slewing and the plane starts moving forward and won't stop. I don't have this problem when I fly the -60 or -70 series. Any words of wisdom?

Try using Shift + P for your "pushbacks" and see what happens. You can also hit the 1 and 2 keys to turn Left and Right as well.

None from me .... which is highly unusual .... I know ! ;D NO REALLY !!!! ;D The reason why you're having such an issue with one group of DC8's and not the other remains a mystery to me .... but ...."IF" you're just wanting to simulate push-back after engine startup then you shouldn't be using the "Y" keyboard command at all. You should be using either of the following 3 keyboard commands for these actions/responses .... "SHIFT" .... "P" .... to push-back in a straight line. "SHIFT" .... "P" .... "1" .... to push-back a distance then turn 90* left. "SHIFT" .... "P" .... "2" .... to push-back a distance then turn 90* right. Depressing "SHIFT" .... "P" (only) .... during any of the above actions/responses will then stop the push-back too. These commands apply to any of ours .... and most other FS aircraft generally. Forget about that "Y" keyboard command ! Mark C AKL/NZ

Slewing is in general a bad thing, unless you just want to position an aircraft a certain place for a screen shot, and then close down the Sim. Hitting the slew command: "Y" doesn't block the Sim from receiving other commands, for example accidentally hitting "F4" would turn up the throttles to full power, and thus when you leave the Slew state, you'll have and aircraft on full throttles howling away .... all other commands are received just as well, so better leave the slew command for sheer amusement only, not as a part of your simulation session ;-)

One thing you might want to try is slewing down, (Z-key) to make sure the airplane has full contact with the ground.

Indeed, but even so, accidentally having set the throttles on full power that won't help much ;-) I know it by own experience.
