If you want to be able to isolate HJG aircraft in the selection menu within FSX, add the following two lines in the fltsim-section: ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner" (or any significant name you choose ..e.g. "Classical Airliner" or whatever.... ui_createdby="Historic Jetliners Group" Example:

Dan, thanks for your GREAT tutorial on adding HJG planes to FSX; it has been a great help! But, I'm having a little problem with certain HJG aircraft. I have added the "ui-typerole" and "ui-createdby" lines, and in the 727-100C, the aircraft show up correctly in the various drop-down lists, as do the HJG 707-320, and Vistaliners L1011. However, the HJG 727-100 Early does not show up under the "created by" list, only in the "manufacturer" and "type" lists; the planes load fine, with panels and sound, but I can find no reason why the "ui-createdby" line is ignored. The two lines were actually copied from the cfg for the 727-100C which do work. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can offer. Ralph

Post a copy of the [fltsim.x] section you are having problems with, and let me have a look-see. If could even post one of the [fltsim.x] -sections that do work, it might be even easier to compare those two and find the culprit Oh, and btw. the L1011 is not VISTALINERs but Erick Cantu's (I know that some may find it irrellevant, but actually VISTALINERS is a now non-existen group, where as Erick is the actual modeller, and still very much alive (or so he told me) busy modelling away for a more grounded type of simulator

can this also be done with the FS9 Aircraft as well give my HJG Aircraft a bit of a tide-up, If you want to be able to isolate HJG aircraft in the selection menu within FSX, add the following two lines in the fltsim-section: ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner" (or any significant name you choose ..e.g. "Classical Airliner" or whatever.... ui_createdby="Historic Jetliners Group" Example:

Hi Dan, thanks for your prompt response. Here are two fltsim section, one from a plane that properly lists by "createdby", and one from a plane which does not
This is a fltsim section from a 727-100C which DOES work properly:
[fltsim.0] // Change "xx" to next number in sequence starting from 0 title=Vistaliners Boeing 727-100C Continental Airlines 1967 sim=B727100F_VL model= panel= sound= texture=continental_airlines_1967_024c_n2471 atc_id=N2471 atc_parking_codes=AES atc_heavy=0 atc_flight_number=100 atc_airline=CONTINENTAL ui_manufacturer=Boeing ui_type=727-100C ui_variation=Continental Airlines (1967) ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner" ui_createdby="Vistaliners" description=One of the most successful commercial jet airliners ever designed. Production totaled 1,831 aircraft between 1963 and 1984. \n\n Repaint by Joe DeGREGORIO visual_damage=1 atc_id_color=0x00000000 atc_id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0 id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0
And this is a fltsim section from a 727-100 Late which DOES NOT work properly:
[fltsim.1] // Change "xx" to next number in sequence starting from 0 title=Vistaliners Boeing 727-95 Northeast 1972 sim=B727100_VL model= panel= sound= texture=b727-95_northeast_n1638_1972 atc_id=N1638 atc_parking_codes= atc_heavy=0 atc_flight_number=721 atc_airline=YELLOW BIRD ui_manufacturer=Boeing ui_type=727-100 ui_variation=Northeast (1972) ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner" ui_createdby="Vistaliners" description=One of the most successful commercial jet airliners ever designed. Oh, btw. did check the box saying "Show All Variants" .... that might do the trick @bob: No I don't think so, I'm pretty sure that this a FSX feature.

Dan, here's a quick update on the category problem; I removed all other aircraft models folders from my HJG folder in SimObjects, leaving the problem one; out of 12 paints, NONE show in the "publisher" column when FSX starts, although all of them show in "aircraft type" (this is the 727-100 LATE model); strangely, this same problem occurs with the 727-100 EARLY model, again, with all other aircraft folders moved elsewhere, except with this model ONE of the paints (#12 of 25) actually does show under the "publisher" category, and all of them appear in the "aircraft type" category. I guess next I will try installing these from scratch with no other aircraft models present, and see if I get the same problem. Ralph

I can say from you examples that there is nothing wrong with ui_xxxx entries at all, so I would dare a guess that you might take a closer look at your entries regarding sim=, tesxture= model= and panel=
And while you are at it, check that your panel.cfg is actually using the right alias
And DO remember to select the check-box "Show all Variants "

Well Dan, I am at a loss with this. This peculiar issue seems to just be with the 727-100 Early and 727-100 Late models; I tried removing all aircraft models from my HJG folder and doing a 727-100 Early from scratch, same problem. I AM able to modify the "manufacturer" and have it listed (i.e., Boeing HJG), but still does not show under the "publisher" drop-down. I am also just added a DC-8-61, and it behaves as expected, being listed under all three drop-downs as it should, as did the L-1011. I also tried removing the quotes around the descriptive terms in those two UI entries, and the plane loaded fine, so the quotes don't seem to be even necessary. Just for kicks, I also copied the entire text from the aircraft.cfg file, and created a new one, but again, that made no difference.
And yes, I had "show all variants" checked; I even tried unchecking, closing the selection window, and then trying it again, and still no luck.
But thanks for your help anyway! Perhaps one of these days I'll stumble upon what's causing this.

This is very strange ... You are not allowed to have two equal title or two equal ui_variation, but apart from that I can see now reason for the aircraft not showing in the drop-downs, unless some other filters a filtering them out .... remember that the "complete show" is a result of all the tree filters together .... But you said you are able to find and fly the aircraft, but it's not viewable with the filters .... so they must be viewable under other conditions, since you are able to select them and fly them .... I could understand a complete no-show, as being an issue with the sim or model .... but apart from this ...?

Well now, here's another odd little twist! I changed the "ui_manufacturer" from "Boeing", to "Boeing VL 727-100E" (and left the typerole and createdby as I had it), and now now all these 727-100 Early are sorting in the Manufacturer drop-down, AND has now ALSO appeared in the "Publisher" drop-down!

Dan, Thanks again for your great tutorial on how to install these. At the beginning of the week, I had not a clue how to install planes from various "parts". I have learned a lot in the last few days. And this morning, I had downloaded a complete aircraft from another site, that had VC, panel and sound and a texture, but it did not appear in FSX upon installing. I was able to take a look in the aircraft.cfg and found a mistake, corrected it, and now have the plane working.
Thanks again, and happy holidays! Ralph
