Hi all. Cleaning out some HD directories and found a couple of pictures that might interest you before they are binned. The first two are a pair of Komstar's getting some practice in for a KCOS air show. We are not alone. All AI of course Paul

Nice screen shots.
How do you get two aircraft flying in formation?
What part of the world is that Braniff 727 flying??? with all the AI planes in the sky making contrails.

Duplicate the flight plan and change the AC on the flight, and go looking as soon as FS9 starts up. They will start together like this one (Broadmoor & Simpsons). You have to be quick to grab them as the move apart quite quickly. Its a bit of fun ;D The first picture was when they were moving apart as Colorado Tech was faster. The second picture was just after they separated and before the drifted apart to much, so the second picture was taken first. The Braniff was is the Dallas area for the evening rush hour. Again its just after the sim has started up so the AI engine is going crazy trying to get the planes sorted out. Paul

Hmmm......interesting..... but probably not as simple as it sounds.
So you start FS with the planes already at altitude???..but as far as I recall FS will not accept a duplicate flight plan and will want to overwrite the first.

Being AI is is that simple. When you duplicate the flight plans you save it with another name so you can delete it when finished with. because its AI and you know the arrival times from the flight plans, just arrive about 10 mins before the arrival time and the flights will be in the airspace not far from the destination airport. So in this case I just go to KCOS and look around. It makes checking paint jobs a bit more fun. There will soon be an updated version of Colorado Tech as I have finally managed to get the FS numbers for the blue. Paul

OK tristar, thanks for the info. Unfortunately I don't have any AI aircraft in the FS9 aircraft menu, so I guess I would have to somehow put some in there. I enjoy the sight of airliners flying in formation, something you don't see very frequently. Below a couple of Boeing Company images. Herman

With a bit of tweaking and changing the compiler for the flight plans you can get them to fly in formation for miles. Here is a little tryout from last night. I watched them for about 10 minutes. There was a couple of collisions with Crested Butte's Htail, but its fun to watch. Paul

OK tristar, great shots.
I have just thought of an other method that in" theory" might work.
Fly in a fairly busy area and when one spots an AI aircraft close by at about the same altitude, try and catch up to it and hope that the quality of the AI plane is reasonably good.
Its a bit more time consuming though than you method, but I will give it a go.
