I have spent the last 24 hours trying to make the strobes work on the L1011 Tristar so It looks like the real L1011. I have finally got the strobes to work so now everyone can enjoy flying with strobes.
Just replace the old light config with this new config.
[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
//light.0 = 1, -1.438, 15.57, 24.59, fx_beaconh , //light.1 = 1, 1.438, 15.57, 21.39, fx_beaconh , //light.2 = 1, -2.504, -4.682, 6.345, fx_beaconb , //light.3 = 1, 2.504, -4.682, 6.345, fx_beaconb ,
light.0 = 1, 24.59, -1.438, 15.57, fx_beaconh , light.1 = 1, 21.39, 1.438, 15.57, fx_beaconh , light.2 = 1, 6.345, -2.504, -4.682, fx_beaconb , light.3 = 1, 6.345, 2.504, -4.682, fx_beaconb , light.4 = 5, 30.92, 18.39, 2.68, fx_T332land , light.5 = 5, 30.92, -18.39, 2.68, fx_T332land , light.6 = 9, -75.81, 8.79, 28.61, fx_T332logo , light.7 = 9, -75.81, -8.79, 28.61, fx_T332logo , light.8 = 4, 77.83, 0.00, 9.40, fx_vclighth , light.9 = 2, -45.00, 78.65, 6.35, fx_strobeh, light.10 = 2, -45.00, -78.65, 6.35, fx_strobeh,

I had "a bit" of spare time this morning .... SO .... I've tried "ANGELONE's" lighting edit on at least 1 of my L1011's .... AND .... can confirm as follows .... It "DOES" work .... even with wing flex .... and without any apparent misalignment at all. Using the above edit .... the white trailing edge wingtip lights are now seen "blink"/stobe rather than appearing as just solid white glows .... SO .... I think we can comfortably endorse this edit. Thank you "ANGELONE" The only thing that possibly needs to be borne in mind now .... is Garry's comment (on another L1011 related lighting thread on this particular SUPPORT forum page) .... in relation to the possibility that "MAYBE" not all L1011's featured these sorts of wing tip strobe lights and which could be relevent in the case of at least some aircraft .... "IF" folk want to persue accuracy. In any case .... the above lighting edit "does work" .... and "is an improvement" .... for those whom wish to try it. Mark C AKL/NZ

I would also like to try this new lighting configuration. Only thing is, where do I find the fx_T332.... files?

Pals pals,
Before you decide to modify the lightings according to the new instructions above, please please remember to create backup file of your aircraft.cfg so that in case you messes up or it does not work, you can always go back to get the backup file and copy it/paste it to overwrite the messed up file.

I don't have the other stated FX files either .... BUT .... just the raw edit alone "seems" to provide an "improvement" .... in that "I AM" .... now .... getting a strobing effect that's better synchronized with the static wingtip lights .... and no longer, seperated from the wing tip, to the same extent as before, whilst on the ground.
Viewed from slightly above the wing elevation everything seems to line up .... perfectly.
Viewed from slightly below the wing elevation there's .... still "fractional/minor misalighnment", but, it's nothing, so far as I'm concerned, because I think one would be hard-pressed to further improve upon things
I don't think missing the other stated FX files makes a huge difference .... because they'd just result in a slight different, or additional, type of effect rather than furthen influencing the new strobe "flashing" positions
I think it's OK .... even without the other stated FX files.

Thanks for the answer Mark, and Angelone for the config modification. It does indeed look much better. I can't say I understand why it works, but it does ...

Probably becuse the "flashing/blinking" strobe light ball (which was a separate part of the lighting effect and not hard-coded/wired into the model) is now better synchronized over the static wingtip light .... and remains so despite the wing flex after T/O.

Hello friends, I do not know yet if they make any real differences, but I have located the fx_T332land.fx and fx_T332logo.fx files. They are part of a package on the Simviation website called, AirNewZealandPackage.zip.
I'm downloading the files now from the Simviation website to see if they actually make a difference in the model appearance. They may not display properly as the package listed for FSX.
My HJG Lockheed L1011-1 looks great without them so far. I disabled the cfg lines in the aircraft.cfg LIGHTS section and added/switched the lights with the ShockWave3D lights effects. The airliner now looks totally awesome!
I hope this helps anyone who may be hunting these light effects. Have a great day everyone. ~Glenn
