I hope this is the right page for this comment. Please move if not.
Just installed two versions of the new MD series and wondered if it is more useful to install the panels and soundpack into a common MD folder since all the models can share them via alias=.
Greetings,
Albert

That's precisely what we normally do here .... in terms of instructing folk to install their panels inside the FSFSCOV file .... then aliasing their default Aircraft Base Pack PANEL.CFG files back to the FSFSCONV and the appropriate panel for display with any aircraft.
On this occasion I elected not to do this though .... simply because, as stated within the MD80/90 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES (Have you read these ?), we have not, as yet, subjected any of these MD80 panels to our own engineering and refurbishment preferences .... which is why all of the required gauges are also provided within the actual panel folders too. I won't normally conform to established HJG protocol (common destination folders for panels .... and gauges files to the FS Gauges folder etc) until we have something "more complete" .... in the future perhaps.
You can .... "if you desire" .... depart from the recommended installation procedures and install each complete MD80 panel inside the FSCONV folder, but, you can also still do that in respect of aliasing panels between MD80 Aircraft Base Pack PANEL folders anyway .... so it should makes no difference.
One thing I did find during testing is that the SOUTHEY/EFIS B717-200/MD80/90 panel version (on my system) didn't like sitting in the FSCONV folder and being aliased .... but rather .... it would only work, for me, if installed directly inside the Aircraft Base Pack folder for the aircraft I use it with .... namely MD87/90 versions although virtually all of my testing was done using this particular pane. It simply "did not/does not" seem to like being aliased at all.
In the meantime .... and just to aid SUPPORT (it's easier when everyone's on the "same page") I do recommend each of these panels be installed inside the respective MD80 Aircraft Base Packs .... just for now at least !

Hi Mark, Thanks for the explanation. In fact I have installed the panels as per instructions but was just wondering why you had diverted from normal procedure. I have aliased the soundpack to FSFSCONV since all the aircraft use it except for the MD-90 for which I have an IAE v2500 pack they share with A32x's. On another note, I can't adjust my NAV1 radios unless the entry under [radios] is changed to NAV1 1,0,1 instead of 1,1,1. Did I perhaps miss something (I did try to read the handling notes thoroughly)? Best wishes, Albert

No issues in regard to RADIOS and FREQUENCIES came up/were revealed during testing throughout the year Precisely which "panel version" and which "aircraft base pack version" are we talking about here Albert ? There is, I think, 1 panel version with which, I recall, the radio frequencies can only be changed "using the actual RADIO STACK sub panel" .... rather than inputting a frequency directly into the box wherever it's located on the Main Panel. For the moment I'm not quite sure which panel/s it is though. Other than that .... and once again .... no RADIO/FREQUENCY related issues, at all, seemed to come up during testing. Mark C AKL/NZ

This has me confounded, Mark. It concerns the white and red panels. With the Spada panel it also isn't possible to change NAV 1 frequency in the box on the main panel (in all cases the + and - appear when you move the mouse over the box, but clicking does nothing), but if you use the sub panel it works no problem. Then I tried the white panel on an SGA MD80 series, and exactly the same happened with [radios] set at 1,1,1. And then I tried a panel that I use on the SGA model on your MD-87 and it works fine! I don't think it's a problem with your panels. Maybe something to do with modules, dll's ... All files such as Trafficinfo.dll were already on my HD in the right places.

NAV1/NAV2/ADF/COM1/COM2 frequencies "are" selectable .... and working properly. The NAV Radios featured in this panel version function differently from those of most other FS panels. The visible NAV 1 Radio frequency cannot be adjusted in MP view. To select another Radio frequency .... and/or change between NAV1/NAV2/ADF/COM1/COM2 Radios .... the RADIO STACK sub panel must first be commanded into view using the following keyboard commands SHIFT 3The default NAV 1 radio box, located on the top left side of the AP section of the MP, below the windshield, is then replaced by the RADIOS sub panel .... featuring all necessry Radio options. All NAV1/NAV2/ADF/COM1/COM2 Radio frequencies in this panel version are controlled from the RADIOS sub panel. Clicking the "VHF1, VHF2, ADF, COM1, COM2" tabs, located below the left/"Active" Radio frequency box on this RADIOS sub panel, cycles the "Active" box between NAV1/NAV2/ADF/COM1/COM2 radios. To change Radio frequencies .... the large round knob, located to the right of the Radio Stack, must be used to enter a frequency into the right/"Standby" box. In NAV1/2 or COM1/2 mode .... clicking the top and bottom left sides of this knob will raise and lower (respectively) the 3-digit prefix of any NAV frequency. Clicking the top and bottom right sides of this knob will raise and lower (respectively) the 2-digit suffix of any NAV frequency. In ADF mode .... clicking the left side of this knob cycles the first digit of any ADF frequency. Clicking the center of this knob cycles the second digit of any ADF frequency. Clicking the right side of this knob cycles the third digit of any ADF frequency. The selected Radio frequency must then be cycled from the right/"Standby" box to the left/"Active" box using the transfer tab located between both. It's "DIFFERENT" .... I grant you .... BUT .... it works fine once accustomed to it
This sort of Radio Stack configuration applies to both the GOLDING/"WHITE" and GOLDING/SEALE/"RED" MD80 panels.I've rechecked both panel installations, on my own system, and everything's working normally .... as intended. Mark C AKL/NZ

I've also just checked the NAV radios in the SPADA MD80 panel version too. It's fine as well .... and works differently from that of the GOLDING/"WHITE" and GOLDING/SEALE/"RED" panel versions. Again .... The visible NAV 1 and NAV2 Radio frequencies cannot be adjusted in MP view. To select another Radio frequency .... and/or change between NAV1/NAV2/ADF/COM1/COM2 Radios .... the RADIO STACK sub panel must first be commanded into view using the following keyboard commands SHIFT 4All NAV1/NAV2/ADF/COM1/COM2 Radios, in this panel vesion, are controlled from the RS located on the CENTER PEDESTALL sub panel. To change Radio frequencies .... a new frequency must first be entered into the right/"Standby" box .... and then cycled across to its corresponding left/"Active box using the transfer tab located between both. Transferring a NAV1/NAV2 Radio frequency from right/"Standby" box to its corresponding left/"Active" box, on the CP RADIO STACK, results in the visible MP NAV1/NAV2 radio frequencies also then changing "automatically in accordance with the new selections. The selected/"active" NAV 1 Radio frequency always remains visible on the left side of the AP section of the MP .... below the windshield. The selected/"active" NAV 2 Radio frequency always remains visible on the right side of the AP section of the MP .... below the windshield. Both .... "are" working fine .... exactly as intended .... as is the full RADIO STACK suite associated with the CP panel too. Hope that helps you out Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi Mark, Last night I decided to do a reinstall of the "white" panel and I'm pleased to say the problem is fixed (across the board). I think it comes down to a file, somewhere, causing a problem. Normally I don't replace files on my system with older ones during an install, but now with this second install I let it override. Problem solved. All that head scratching ...! Thank you very much for all your time and effort. Have a very nice xmas break and a flying start to the new year Albert.

WELL .... my flying start to the New Year actually begins in around 72 hours time .... AKL/LAX/MIA/BOG. Glad we got it sorted There should not have been any over-writes in respect of the supplied Panel Gauges .... since these all remain within the actual Panel folders for each of these panel versions (for the time being) .... BUT .... there "IS" potential for over-writing in respect of the supplied Panel Modules and Panel Sounds since these go to other standard FS directory folders .... and which is where care really needs to be excercized, in respect of other non-HJG products one might have installed, and which use other versions of the same modules and might, then, cause those other products to not run poroperly after such an overwrite. Something we've really got no control over .... I'm afrad As a result of your feedback though .... I might add additional/clarified RADIOS information to my support notes for the GOLDING/"WHITE", GOLDING/SEALE/"RED", and SPADA panels .... just to clarify how these Radios actually operate .... in the interest of avoiding potential misunderstangs by others in the future. In the meantime .... I can, once again, confirm all of the supplied files are fine. Mark C AKL/NZ

Mark, indeed, I was being cautious regarding modules and panel sounds. Fortunately everything's OK after overwriting. Thanks again, and bon voyage
