Hi
Thanks for making the A/C and Handling Notes. Very informative and fun to fly.
That said, are the panels suggested for use in the MD 8 x series compatible with Win 7 64 bit OS?
If not, do you have any suggestions?
Thanks.

So far as I'm aware .... there should be no such compatibility issues.
Just watch out for a potentially missing ASI gauge in the main panel of tjust the 2 GOLDING panel versions only. I don't think this is a compatibility issue of the type which you query .... because it seems to happen on some systems and regardless of whether or not these are WINDOWS XP or WINDOWS 7 OS. If you should select either of the 2 GoLDING panel versions and be confronted by this particular ASI gauge issue .... then just get back to us and we'll tell you what to do .... the fix is "VERY EASY".
My friend and HJG colleague Camilo LUEGAS uses WINDOWS 7 .... and has each of our 4 MDX panel offering installed .... and these all seem to run fine on his system and in FS9.
These MDX panels "ARE NOT" FSX compatible though.
Just be sure to following the installation instructions .... "TO THE LETTER" .... in respect of both panel/gauges, modules, and panel sound destination folders. It's only when people try "WINGING IT" .... not following or otherwize misunderstanding instructions .... that issues begin to arise.
Again .... you should be OK though !

Thanks so much for the prompt reply.
Forgive me for asking, but what is the fix for the ASI gauge issue?
Thanks in advance

In respect of the missing ASI ....
This is a frustrating as well as "known issue" in respect of just the "GOLDING WHITE" and "GOLDING RED" MD80 panel versions only.
It seems to occur on "some PC's/FS installations only, but, not to everyones generally".
We don't, yet, know the common denominator that's causing this to happen on those systems/installations where it occurs .... BUT .... just follow these instructions in order to fix it ....
This recommended SPADA based panel ASI replacement results in a slightly different ASI from the original GOLDING panel version, but, it works every bit as well/reliably.
Given that we have, now, recieved 4 reports of this ASI issue. I will .... later on "when I have time" .... update and re-release these 2 panels with a "permanent fix"
Again .... those experiencing this missing ASI issue should, in the meantime, just apply the above-mentioned fix.

Thanks for the fast reply.
I'll give it a try. I "unzip" the (semi-EFIS) .zip to a Temp Folder of my choosing, first - right? i.e. Not *the* Temp folder, but a "temporary" folder created by the user that holds the contents of the .zip package...

Just create a "NEW FOLDER" .... wherever you please. Then UNZIP the contents of the SPADA MD80 SEMI EFIS panel into this same "NEW FOLDER". Then open the actual SPADA Panel folder and locate the ASI gauge .... which is named precisely as follows .... ca727asi.gau .... .... or it may, on your system, simply appear as follows .... ca727asi.... without the "GAU" suffix .... depending on the file name presentation protocol on your own PC. Then put this particular gauge inside each of your GOLDING MD80 ANALOGUE panel folders (or whicever one you've decided to use) .... among all the other gauges contained within these panel folder. Then .... open the PANEL.CFG file for the GOLDING panel versions and locate the "GAUGE17" reference data. Delete the existing reference .... and replace it with the following new data .... gauge17=ca727asi.gau 71,478,130,130.... and then save this edit. A piece of piss !!!! Mark C AKL/NZ

Thanks for the quick reply. Where does the ca727asi.gau file go *exactly*? because when you open the decompressed file, you have these folders:
FS2004 Orig Docs Panel Modules Panel sounds panel.md80_golding_white
My apologies if I missed some detail along the way...
Thanks for your help in advance,

As I mentioned above/earlier .... Put the ASI gauge from the SPADA SEMI EFIS MDX panel (file name = ca727asi.gau) inside the GOLDING ANALOGUE MDX PANEL. "IF" you're installing both of the GOLDING MDX panels (i.e. the "WHITE" and "RED" panel versions) then you wil need repeat this same procedure "twice" .... once only for each of them. You'll also then need to make the PANEL CFG edit ( gauge17 reference) "twice" also .... once for each panel version. It's very easy and quite straightforward Let me know how you're going Mark C AKL/NZ

What I've done so far to fix the missing ASI
I uncompressed the Spada zip (Semi-EFIS) panel into a new Temporary folder as you described the process better than I did.
I then copied the "ca727asi.gau" over to--
C>Program Files (x86)>Microsoft Games>Flight Simulator 9>Aircraft>HJG McDonnell Douglas MD-81_V1.1>panel.md80_golding_white
And that's where it is; third one down "on the list."
In that same folder: panel.md80_golding_white, I found a "panel.cfg" and I modified that file to read like this:
gauge17==ca727asi.gau 71,478,130,130
Aha!! 2 equals signs!! (I just discovered them, as I was writing this post.) I took one out. Saved the edit, ran FS9 again, and still, the ASI doesn't show up.
Anyway here's what's in the panel.cfg now...
gauge17=ca727asi.gau 71,478,130,130
What do you think of my installation procedure? Did I do it right?
Thanks in advance,

"IF" you've done as I've been instructing .... then there's "NO WAY IN HELL" that the ASI won't show up "IF" you've had a double equals sign (==) there then that will effectively prevent the new ASI from displaying at all. "IF" you correct that discrepency accordingly .... as the 3rd to last sentence in you last post suggests you already have .... then the new ASI can't do anything other than display in the panel. Your double equals sign is, likely, to be the gremlin in this particular case. Mark C AKL/NZ

I read your installation instructions and did the best I could. That's why I provided the earlier post that listed the steps I performed. If you would please review the steps I outlined in my previous post and confirm that my installation procedure went according to your instructions. Or in the absence of a confirmation that everything went as planned, could you please offer me the steps to take to correct my errors (that haven't already.) Thanks in Advance, Thrills And Chills P.S. Both Gauge entries (in my previous post) were directly copied/pasted from the panel.cfg

Let's try that excercise again shall we .... because I've only just, this moment, realised that a comma (,) should have appeared after "gau" suffix .... and .... 2 empty/vacant spaces should also appear between suffix and the first digit of the gauge lattitude/longitude/size data. Sorry about that .... "MY FAULT/OVERSIGHT" .... mine eyes are getting tired The full "GAUGE17" line/entry should look then like this .... gauge17=ca727asi.gau, 71,478,130,130"IF, for any reason, that still doesn't work .... then just delete the "GAU" suffix completely, but, retain both the comma (,) and 2 empty/vant spaces ... so the full "GAUGE17" entry then looks like this .... gauge17=ca727asi, 71,478,130,130That "little bloody comma" (,) .... and the 2 empty/vacnt spaces too .... may be a very tiny details, but, they're also both very relevent ones too .... which even I, can, inadvertently, overlook sometimes .... as everyone's just seen FINALLY .... just recheck that the "CA727ASI.GAU" file is, indeed, inside the panel folder .... as, you say, you've already done. We'll get there .... eventually ;D Mark C AKL/NZ

All of which is confirmation that your install instructions were followed to the letter. Thanks for your excellent support. I really appreciate it.

"NO PROBLEM" .... Should you decide to use the GOLDING RED MD80 panel .... then .... just repeat this same, precise, procedure in respect of the ASI, for that panel version too .... which I'm sure you're now more than familiar with ;D May I also take this opportunity to suggest/recommend you make time to study the "MD80/90 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES .... my online/foum based manial for each of our MDX panel offerings. These notes go well beyond basic panel installation procedures .... to guide folk how to best fly these aircraft in FS. I'm sure you'll find this information very useful. Mark C AKL/NZ
