I've been running FS2004 for well over a year now in W7 and with no issues. I also run ActiveSky6.5, RadarContact, and FSCaptain all in the background while doing a flight. Be sure to run everything as an administrator.
I think W7 is very good, and I am as happy with it as I was with XP.
Not relevant for FS, but I recently switched totally over to Firefox... IE8 was driving me crazy.

I can confirm what Mike has stated in regard to FS2004 compatibility with a WINDOWS 7 OS .... as many others will too undoubtedly.
There should be no problems .... "AT ALL" .... at least none that I've ever known of in regard to those I know whom use that particular OS .... when using FS2004, or even FSX, with WINDOWS 7 for that matter either.

Hi:
One possible problem could exist: MS Sidewinder joystick is according MS official statement not compatible with WIN7. I use FS9 with MS Sidwinder under WIN7: With nonstandard joystickinterfaces (like with Project Tupolev simulations) seems all works well.

I have just built a new machine, and installed win7 64bit. So far, so good.
Don't install either sim (9 or X) inside either of the Program files as we did in XP Install them, rather, on the C-Drive in their own folders, i.e., C:\Flight Simulator 9
If you can run XP, you can get around in Win 7 pretty easily. There are some new quirks, but not as bad as I had heard.
Good luck.

I've installed both FS9 and FSX in the default folders without any problems, just turned off UAC though... make a lot of things much easier :-)

On a 64-bit system, should you choose x86? What is the downside to installing in separate directories? So many questions.

I would let the computer pick the defualt to install. As Dan says, turn of UAC, that saves much hassels in so many areas. Falcon

I'm on a 64 as well, and I just let it do the defaults, and no troubles at all ... as Falcon says: the keyword is turning UAC off once and for all ... and you'll never get into troubles with Win7 runs like ..... well better than any OS'es before...

Hmmmm. Thanks folks. Now my question is: Is it worth uninstall and reinstall. Everything seems to be working ok with the sims in their own folders.

Hi,
I agree with all the others; W7-64 is the best OS yet, and is the way to go with FS9 and FSX (have not tried P3D yet). I have not turned UAC off, I guess MS put it there for a good reason. I have learned to live with all the annoying warnings. Other than that, I have not noticed any limitations. Have I overlooked something here?
I have the OS, FSX and FS9 installed on each their own harddisk (Velociraptors and WD Blacks). Harddisks (non-SSD´s) cost nearly nothing today, and the gain is much snapier rig overall, and quicker loading of the Sim.
Best Regards, Anders

OK Thanks Anders when you say OS and FS2004 on external HDD or Internal HDD do you mean you Have windows 7 and FS2004/FSX installed both on each HDD or just FS2004 and FSX installed on Separate HDDs and Windows 7 OS installed on PC C Drive Hard Disk internal only. Thanks Dave
