I have a certain aircraft in FSX with a panel and all gauges show up and work except one. The notice I receive when I load that plane is that the gauge is to old and not recognizable in FSX. It gives the name of the gauge, but I can't find it in the Panel cfg file. It is not listed precisely as it states in the notice. I have looked at all guages, and the names are not close to that name in the error message. I have replaced gauges before that were designed for 2004 by adding a gauge to the panel and directing it to the proper name with the panel cfg. Any other suggestions? It is called rp_727_altimeter in the error notice but can't locate it in the paned cfg. Falcon

RP 727 ALTIMETER ....
That's the altimeter from the PROBST/HJG B727 panel/s gauge set.
I've not ever heard of any incompatibility of this gauge with FSX .... in fact I'll go out on a limb here and say that this particular gauge isn't incompatible with FSX (because the PROBST/HJG B727 main panels all work fine in FSX .... as we know), but, what's, probably, happening here is that FSX, possibly, detecting the fact that it represents "older gauge" programing .... and this triggers a warning.
The type of warning I would expect to see is something along the lines of ....
"FLIGHT SIMULATOR HAS DETECTED POTENTIALLY INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE. DO YOU WANT TO LOAD IT ANYWAY" .... or words to that effect.
In this particular case/scenario just select "YES" or "OK" to the prompting at everything should load fine/normally. Selecting "NO" to this same prompting will, effectively, cancel that particular gauge file from being displayed in any panel using it .... and that same particular gauge could be used by any number of other panels and not just those of the B727's .... and which isn't at all uncommon in FS.
In these sorts of situations (and I'm talking of FS2004 only here) one can usually get around these particular warnings by creating the following section in their FS.CFG file ....
[OLDMODULES]
.... and then adding the name of the particular gauge being queried by FS. This action usually resolves any such problem once and for all .... and a common HJG example of this scenario is in regard to the FSSOUNHD.DLL, which accompanies a number of HJG supplied panels, and is "always" resolved in this particular manner.
I think the same action works in FSX too.
Try it and see .... one can't damage/break anything by just trying out this methodology.
I don't believe you need to remove anything from your panel or FS gauges folder at all.

Thanks Mark, It is actually being used in a panel for the Mercure fsx port over. I still don't understand why it doesn't show up by the same name in the panel cfg file. Oh well. I'll figure it out someday, now I have a new problem of no buildings showing up at a certain aerodrome! Falcon

I just need to ask .... "IF" the warning message, you say, you're getting (the one hilighting the RP 727 ALTIMETER gauge) is along the lines of what I've commented above .... then are you selecting "YES/OK" in response to it ? By doing that this particular gauge will/should then be recognized and displayed by FS. And .... as a last resort (in regard to the advice I can offer) .... have you also tried entering the name of that gauge to the [OLDMODULES] section of your FS.CFG. Either action should .... in theory .... be sufficient to resolve this problem for you .... especially if the RP 727 ALTIMETER gauge already displays OK within the PROBST/HJG/CARTY B727 panel/s which, I do recall ,you may have installed recently also. Need you to check/test all of this Mark C AKL/NZ

Sometimes gauges are built inside other gauges! For example, XML gauges are normally compressed and contain several bitmaps and xml files but in Flight Simulator, the compressed file is mentioned followed by the internal XML file that makes the actual gauge work, so you may not be able to find unless you uncompress the file and take a look inside it, BEWARE, uncompress to a separate folder or you'll have hundreds of bitmap files all over the place.

I copied the RP_727_Altimeter gauge from HJG's 727 as it has worked all along into the panel of the Merc and then changed the Panel cfg guage to point to it and now it works as it should. However, the same notice appears when the a/c is loading that rp 727 is a pre 1998 gauge and is not compatible. I just close it. It is more an anoyance than anything else. I was just having fun with a new a/c. This panel now has 2 altimeters as it is suppose to I guess. I believe the original is hidden in a nother gauge file, and I can't open gauge files, nor do I want to. Thanks guys.
