Al .... I'm not sure if I'm interpreting your commentary correctly .... but ....
the Hydraulic pump switches (there are 4 of these .... located on the secondary engine instruments sub panel which appears over part over part of the primary engine intruments section of the main panel when selected) must each be selected "ON" (to their fully up/"HI" position/s) .... or .... the landing gear, and the flaps, simply will not/cannot work, at all, in this particular DC9 simulation .... SO .... I can't understand why your DC9 landing gear is, apparently, working without any sikmulated Hydraulic pressure because that should be "IMPOSSIBLE" given the way the panel/gauges/FDE all combine in order to make everything work .... unless one has, possibly, modified things/details in order to work otherwise.
In respect of "CRoSSBONE40's" original query though ....
Throughout the almost 4 years during which these DC9 panels have been offered by HJG I've never, ever, heard of any such experience.
As I mentioned above .... the landing gear, and the flaps, simply can't work, at all, unless the panel/s Hydraulic system is first activated .... and that's how these details are designed/intended to work.
All I can suggest is ....
When activating the panel Hydraulic pump/system switches then make sure each of these are properly selected "ON" .... by mouse clicking on each "TWICE", if necessary, in order to ensure they are each set to their fully up/"HI" positions.
"IF" correctly set/actvated then no problem/s should ever result.

Mark,
Hmmm. I'm using completely unmodified .cfg files for the DC-9-10 and -30 on two separate computers, and both allow the landing gear to retract with all hydraulic pumps turned off and zero pressure indicated on the right hydraulic system. Which is strange, because I seem to recall it working properly before. I think I'll try reinstalling.

Just a quick/simple reclarificdatioo in regard to the Hydraulics system represented within each of the HJG supplied DC9 panels .... the same system is represente in each of these panels and works in precisely the same manner .... As I mentioned above .... 4 such switches located within the Hydraulics section of the secondary engine instrumenmts sub panel (commanded into view per clicking on the small white triangle icon) which appears over part of the main panel view when commanded into view. Each of these 4 switches must be activated .... but in particular .... the 2 (pared) center Hydraulics switches must be set to their fully up/"ON" positions ....and it does require 2 mouse clicks, om each, in order to achieve this. As earlier explained .... if these switches are not, or are improperly, activated then the landing gear and flaps simply cannot function properly/correcctly. I "speculate" (only) that this "might", possibly, be the cause of "CROSSBONE40's" problem .... since no such problem (as described by him) has ever been previously reported/known to exist. Below is an extract from my DC9 ANEL INSTALLATION AND HANDLING NOTES (which is effectively the HJG online/forum based manual for these DC9 simulations) in regard to the Hydraulics systems represented within each of these panels .... Those new to the HJG offered DC9 panels need to take the time necessary to familiarise themselves with the full manual which is located "HERE"/per the following link .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/3435/hjg-panel-installation-handling-notes.... since most of everything that needs to be known/understood, in order to be able to use/enjoy these DC9 panels properly, is covered within these "very extensive/thorough notes". It wouldn't even hurt those whom consider themselves to be expert users of the HJG supplied DC9 panels to, occasionmally, make an effort revisit/refresh themselves (recommended) with all of this information .... from time to time .... since these panels (having been designed by a, then, real world SAS DC9 captain) represent the most complex work yet offered by HJG and are also, quite possibly, "the very best DC9 panels curently available for FS" .... FS2004 only though I'm afraid. Mark C LAX/US

FS2004 only though I'm afraid. Ouch. I'm pretty sure I didn't deserve that, Mark. I never intended to indicate dissatisfaction with Captain Himberly's or HJG's work on the DC-9. It is, far and away, the best freeware "classic" jet I've used. Period. Does that mean it's perfect? No. But the slight inaccuracies only show themselves in abnormal situations that the average FS pilot will rarely see. And since I only fly under normal conditions, they don't bother me. I also know those inaccuracies are simulator limitations, not a reflection of anyone's work or abilities. If you or anyone else took my simple observation as a personal insult, I apologize. So, anyway, I reinstalled everything (core gauges, sounds, and a model/panel combination I've never used before [DC-9-40 with -11 engines]), and tried again, with the same results. The landing gear retract and extended normally with all four hydraulic system control switches "OFF" and zero pressure indicated in both hydraulic systems. I even cycled the gear numerous times to make certain that an accumulator wasn't modeled. I do remember the gear working properly before. Are there any other settings I should be looking for?

Actually .... I wasn't communicating that to you personally Al, but rather, it was intnded as a "general" statement I do stand by my comment though .... because the answer/s to by far the greater majority of queries HJG receives in regard to these DC9, and other, simulations (and once again this "IS NOT" directed to you) are actually covered within the online/forum based manual/s. It seems .... that some people simply don't (can't be bothered in many cases) reading the supporting information .... which is "unfortunate", because if one tries to "wing it" with these DC9 panels (in particular) then that will, often, result in misunderstandings/misinterpretations and other potential issues which could, otherwise, be easily avoided .... and which, for me, at least, does sometimes, become "just a little bit frustrating" given the enormous effort applied to try provide good supporting information. Also .... I never interpreted your commentary to imply disatisfaction with Mr HILMERBY's work ("NO" offence taken) .... but rather .... I only mentioned these panels having been designed by an SAS ex DC9 pilot/captain (as I've done few times previously) to imply that they're good .... which they, indeed, are (being, possiblbly, the very best DC9 panels currently available for FS) as they were originally intended, by HILMERBY, to be used by SAS DC9 crews as "some kind of home PC based procedural familirization tool" first and foremost .... and then for advanced FS enjoyment/enthuisasts secondly. I do also maintain that it "iS" a very good practice for folk to, occassionally, take the necessary time to refresh themselves with/revise the content of the manuals provided for each simulation .... as things do, often, become clearer/better understood over time and upon such reflection In respect of your particular issue/problem though Al .... I don't know why you're seeing what, you say, you're seeing .... and until this thread was posted I've never seen (don't recall at least) any such previous report/s. With all 4 Hydraulics switches selected "ON" .... and with the center pair (only) being selected to their "HI" positions also .... you simply shouldn't be seeing a "zero hydraulics pressure indication" or even be able to raise and lower both the landing gear, and flaps, in that condition. I only returned home again yesterday .... after being away for almost a month. Out of curiosity .... I quickly looked at some of my own DC9's .... each of which are supported by the very same HJG DC9 panel/gauge and FDE offerings provided "HERE" .... and I can't replicate your (or even CROSSBONE40's) problem for the life of me. What you're reporting may be unique to your own system/installation .... or rather .... could be the result of something else you've got installed that might, potentially, be interfering with the way some things are intended to work although I couldn't hazard any guess as to what/why this might be. "NONE AT ALL" .... that I can immediately think of .... other than those procedures which I've already outlined within tutorials represented in the provided manual. Mark C AKL/NZ

Mark,
Okay, sorry. I thought you were aiming your comments at me directly! Nothing to see here. Move alone!
I don't know why I'm seeing this behavior either from my Nines' hydraulics. It doesn't bother me, since I position the hydraulic switches as they would normally be placed anyway. If I ever figure it out, I'll let you know.

"NO PROBLEM" Al .... apart from the one you're reporting of course I have noted the details. I will look at it .... during the course of my own DC9 flying .... and .... "IF" I discvover anything, or, have any other intelligent advice to offer in the future then I will, most certainly, do so/update this thread accordingly .... rest assured because I "DO" like to see the HJG community able to enjoy these, and all other, HJG simulation without any issues at all Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi Mark, thanks to your nice explanation of the hydraulic gauges panels I could solve my problem with my landing gears(double-clicking each of the Center Buttons to ON.)! It only wonder why I have to set these switches manually, because they should be in this position from the beginning. I do always start with the plane on the runway, ready to fly and with activated engines, so I never looked at the hydraulics system before, simply, because there was no need for it-this gears-problem appeared only when I used the DC-9s. Another Thing: As an Admin to this board could you somehow change the auto-correct-settings for Co..pit? It is a bit strange that this word cannot be written on a flightsimulator-forum without being "wrong-corrected". Maybe you know a solution. Greetings and thanx too for all former advises Hermann

One of the reasons for this is because these particular DC9 panels were designed/intended to be used as "a kind of home PC based basic procedures familiarization tool" for SAS DC9 pilots .... and I do state that cautiously because only a limited number of procedures are practiceable within the finite limits of FS parameterrs which may, easily, be manipulated. Having acknowledged that though .... those procedures/systems which are represented within these DC9 panels are, indeed, very well done, and by someone whom by the very virtue of his profession (Captain Stellan HILMERBY flew the DC9 for SAS for a number of years), and engineering ability, knew "precisely what he was doing". Most of the systems within these DC9 panels are "OFF" by default (even though the simulation does start with an engines running situation) .... MEANING .... these systems must then each be activated manually and which is how this simulation is designed/intended to function/be used. Within my online/forum based DC9 manual .... I have provided 2 startup scenarios. One for an engines running situation .... and another for an engines shutdown situation (in this particular case the engines must, first, be shutdown, manually, when the simulation loads into FS), and which then requires a fukll engine statup procedure using the APU .... as described within the tutorial. In both cases/scenarios other panel systems must also then be activated "MANUALLY". I know "PRECISELY" what you mean .... and it "DOES" irritate me, occasionally, too .... especially when I want to, quite inocently, use "specific phraseology" which the forum based censor then interprtets as being postially absusive/obscene or otherwise offensive and then, automatically, changes for a substitute word/phraseology .... HOWEVER .... this situations that I, personally, have absolutely no control and can do nothing, whatsoever, about it It's just one of those things that must be "lived with" .... I'm afraid :/ Mark C AKL/NZ
