That's correct .... the JS-3 JOSEPH STALIN tank was also known as the IS-3 IOSEF STALIN tank. It was, apparently, developed from the earlier KV series of Russian tanks. No,no, you didn't understand me: JS designation was never used, but IS because Stalins name is written with an "I" and not "J". And yes, they where an offshoot of the Kliment Voroshilov (KV) tank

OH NO .... I understood perfectly what you meant It's just that both "JS" and "IS" designations are actually used/acceptable in the case of the STALIN tank series. It seems to depend upon what part of the world one lives in" as to how the name "Joseph" (which is apparently "Iosef" .... in Russian and Eastern European countries) is spelt. I do agree with you though .... in that the "IS/IOSEF" designation is probably the "correct one" for the STALIN tank series if one wants to be "pendantic" but which I'm also trying to avoid being Mark C AKL/NZ

I never saw the JS designation myself, anywhere until now.

Despite my interest .... I don't, really, want this discussion to get too entrenched in tanks .... or tank symantecs either for that matter .... at least not on an FS forum (although I'm responsible for briefly digressing this thread into the subject of tanks I did so only in response to my curiosuity in regard another posters interest in the "WORLD OF TANKS" combat simulation .... which interests me also) .... BUT AGAIN .... and as I've already mentioned earlier/above .... "IS" or "JS" are both applicable/acceptable designators (depending upon where one's from and/or what references one uses) for the STALIN tank series .... although "IS" is, probably, the more "correct" one for these particular Russian machines .... I acknowledge www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=191Best (me thinks) we try'n keep this thread devoted to the subject of "payware combat flight simulation" .... please Mark C AKL/NZ

Just to put this particular thread "back on track" again .... Another "RISE OF FLIGHT" video .... this one is based on another/possibly "THE MOST" famous historic WW1 aerial encounter/dual .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywug11nLFfgMoving forward now.... to the next global conflict/WW2 .... this next video is based on the "IL2 - CLIFFS OF DOVER" combat simulation which I mentioned above .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tugifv2YIw8AND .... for something completely different .... BUT .... still focusing on payware combat flight simulation .... here's another video promoting the Eagle Dynamics "A10-C WARTHOG" simulation .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=YalCzNb5DIQInterestingly .... it's my understanding that all 3 of these quality combat flight simulation programs are per the work/foundation of "Russian programmers/developers". Here's a great video based around the Battle of Britain showcasing IL2 Cliffs of Dover. Extremely good editing etc.
Enjoy...
