I have been running FSX for about 8 years. Have never ran any other FS. I have an opportunity to acquire FS 2004 for a very good price. $10.00 USA. Yes brand new in wrapper, which I have ordered. Since I have many Aircraft originally designed for FS 2004 and have ported them over, built panels that work, and changed cfg files to make it operate in FSX, I was wondering if there is a problem with installing FS2004 in the same computer that has FSX? Then I can clean out FSX of port overs and install the many FS2004 A/C that will work as designed. Many of HJG's products were designed for FS2004 and also CalClassic Prop-liners, which is most of my hanger. Anybody running both on the same machine? Any problems with that? Falcon

Hi Falcon,
as far as I know, you can have both sims (FS9 and FSX) on your system.

Denny .... Klaus is right One can install both FSX and FS2004 on the same PC/system. I've seen this done .... and working fine .... without any apparent issues at all. If contemplating doing so (installing FS2004 on the same systmm FSX), then, the only thing I, personally, might be inclined toward recommending is that they're both installed on "separate drives". Personally .... I prefer FS2004 .... by a long shot. Installation-wise I do find it far more user friendly, but, that's likely due to my having become so accustomed to its file structure and installation protocols through it having followed the established MSFS procedure of many years prior .... probnbly from FS98, wheras this all suddenly changed with the advent of FSX which does require specific procedures to be followed. Someone who's grown up with fSX though would probably adapt to "IT" much better. Whilst all of the HJG simulations "ARE" FSX compatible/portable (not native though) .... with the esception of the BAe 146/ARG (generally), CONCORDE (generally), and CARAVELLE (panels only .... the CARAVELLE panel will, apparently, work in FSX, but, with some very minor quirks .... so I prefer to say it's "not FSX compatible" until Esa one day advises accoringly), DC9 (panels only) DC10 (panels only) .... I, again personally, feel these files are enjoyed most within FS2004 .... since that's the platform they were originally built around. Mark C AKL/NZ

Falcon....I have both FS9 and FSX installed on my computer on C Drive and they both work OK.
As Mark suggested if you do have two drives it would probably be best if you separated them.

I have installed both FS9 and FSX on the same dive in default folders without any issues what so ever :-) I'm running Win7 64bit but removed the UAC (windows user protection) so I can be in charge of my computer myself :-D

Thanks Gentlemen, I appreciate your input Yes Mark, that is why I want to install 2004, so the panels in my loved HJG aircraft will function as it should. I am tired of trying to make things that were not designed for FSX, operate in it in a stable and correct manner! Thanks again, every one at HJG is so wonderful, and most of the simmers on the forum are also. All of you are very helpful. Falcon, aka Denny Hayward
