Do all the DC8's have "smoke effects?"
I'm not seeing any with the DC-8-50, and the proper .fx flles are installed; I've checked to make sure that the .fx files are installed in their proper location. I know it doesn't make sense, but just the same.
Can someone please help me out?
Thanks in advance,

Only the HJG DC8-10 through 60 SERIES simulation have Smoke Effects. These effects are "quite heavy" for DC8-SHIP ONE 1958 and DC8-10/11/12 only .... .... and "quite moderate" for the DC8-20 through 60 SERIES only .... .... BUT .... non-existent for any of the DC8-70 SERIES since these aircraft are/were virtually "smokeless", so, no effects are provided for these particular versions HOWEVER .... to enable the HJG DC8 Smoke Effects to work requires that these effects files be installed within the FS "EFFECTS" folder, and then, the HJG supplied DC8 panels (for each of these simulations) also used. If these Smoke Effcts are not, or are incorrectly, installed within FS .... or .... if non-HJG supplied DC8 panels, or the wrong DC8 panel/s, are assigned to any of these simulations .... THEN .... these Smoke Effects simply cannot, and will not, work. These Smoke Effects are "auto-generarated/activated" .... meaning .... it's not necessary to manually enable them using MSFS keyboard command "I" .... simply because each work in accordance with the EGT gauges indications within each of the respective panel versions. Therefore it's, perhaps, needless to say that these smoke effect will only be visible at very high power settings also. Mark C AKL/NZ

Thanks for the information.
I'll post some screenshots which should show you my installation, as the problem has not cleared up. Perhaps you'll spot something I've missed.
I hope this helps.

The 3rd photo is Ship one at full power. Notice the absence of the Smoke Effects.
Also with the 3rd image, has anyone experienced the livery flickering as it will do in the simulation. It's hard to explain, but the size and length of the "indention" varies (as if on a loop playback, hence "flickering."
Thanks,

Within my hastily replied commentary (above) I forgot to add .... In the case of "DC8 SHIP ONE 1959" and "DC8-10/-11/-12" .... the heavy smoke affects (our heaviest) customised for these 2 DC8 versionsonly (intended to simulate visible effects of the water/methanol solution used to augment engine thrust during some T/O's), work for approximate "3 minutes only" .... then disipate .... this being the duration of the real world water methanol burn-off. From this point there will then be "no further visible smoke effects" for just these 2 simulations only .... since it's not possible to compile engine EGT guages to read 2 different types of smoke effects files .... so far as I'm aware. Smoke effects for each of the remaining DC8 series (-20 through -63 .... the non-water/methanol burners) remain "constant", but, only initiate from the extremly high power range (above N2 89% .... roughly). Once/if power is reduced below N2 90% then one might see a wafer thin trail behind the model .... and below N2 85% (roughly) these effects will dissipate altogether. This remains true of the B707/720 and CV880/990 simulations also .... and all other HJG simulations equiped with smoke effects .... and is the way everything's intended to work. These smoke effects work in both FS2004 and FSX. I don't think you've installed anything incorrectly .... but rather .... possibly harbour somke minor misconception/s in regard to what you're expecting to see I can't comment on your flickering texture issue (I do note the missing wing section in your image) .... other than to suggest graphics card/seeting and related driver issues .... "possibly". Certainly .... this's never ben reported previously (over the past 14 years) .... so far as I can recall. Mark C AKL/NZ

I would try it again before posting, but I'm "flying" (note the quotes,) to MMMX at the moment. So, can I expect to see Smoke effects, only once after the DC-8 has loaded up, and that's it OR
Smoke Effects will be visible everytime the conditions you speak of, are met in the simulator?
Thanks.

To summarise/reclarify .... - DC8 sHIP ONE 1958 and DC8-11/-12 SERIES .... "heavy" smoke effects but for the first 3 minutes only .... with no further smoke effects beyond that. - DC8-20 through -63 SERIES .... constant "light"/standard smoke effects. - DC8-70 SERIES .... no smoke effects at all .... intentionally. - All smoke effects are first dependent on the correct HJG supplied DC8 panel/s (only) being assigned to the correct aircraft base pack/s .... or these smoke effects simplycannot work. - All HJG Smoke effects are "auto-generated" .... but .... are only visible from, and during, extremely high power engine RPM .... such as is associated with T/O and the initial climb stage. So then, smoke effects (I'm guessing) should be visible for the fist 3 minutes - like on the take off roll - for the sum total of one event; and you won't see any more smoke effects after that... OR... You'll see smoke effects for the fist 3 minutes - like on the take off roll - every time the aircraft loads up?
The above assumes that the conditions of exceeding N2 of 89% has been met.
I apologize if my question(s) were not clear...I hope this helped.
Thanks.

As to the "Flickering" (so to speak) textures, I tried to reproduce the condition in other a/c in FS9. The good news the informal testing went well. In other words, I couldn't reproduce the "flickering" of the textures in any other a/c that I tried - except those from HJG; I'm sorry to say.

Hello, It's not particular to HJG A/C ... some others have this "flickering" texture effect In many cases it's possible to reduce this by converting the textures Convert to DXT3 with nomips or another format You can use this convert tool (image tool): https://mega.co.nz/#!r5YynJpT!oZQZM_YZ9zz1iyYzF8l0Sllx92tqT2oEIDNV2tj5IgM Just unzip in a folder (EG Convert) Put all your textures in the same folder .. and use the BAT file you want ! BTW .. miracle I can login in HJG again ........ Regards.

If I put all HJG textures in one folder: won't that separate them from the aircraft - meaning, once I've made the separate folder, and placed all the textures in that folder, won't it will be difficult to remember which textures went where and with which aircraft?
Thanks

For the "DC8 SHIP ONE 1958" and "DC8-11/12" .... and "B707-120" and "B707-138" (but not the "B" versions of these)onlt .... "YES". As for the rest (with the exception of the "DC8-70 SERIES" ..... and the "B707-700" .... these smoke effects will remain more-or-less constant "provided engine power is maintained above a certain high RPM". I "suspect" (only) that what you're seeing there (both the flikering and the apparent missing bits) is "possibly" graphics card and/or driver (at a guess) related. "So far as I can imediately recall" .... this issue hasn't been previously reported here, and, as my following imager indicates, I can't replicate any such issue/s at all .... Incidentally .... both of "these images" were made by me "before" I coverted them from there currently downloadable DXT3 format (as all of the old textures are) to 32 BIT 8.888 format without MIP's. You can try what "GUS" has mentioned (although I use a utility named DXT BMP to do so .... not provided or supported by HJG) .... and which is along the lines of what I've done, myself, with a lot of my own textures .... both HJG and non-HJG alike .... and which has, in my experience to date, resulted in improved "clarity/appearance" of older subject textures and in the "absence" of any other display related issue/s. I would like to try Gus's idea, but please read the above post with my concerns. If you could help me out, that would be great.

Hello, It's a simple process ! Just copy paste the textures of 1 A/C ( the one you want to correct .. not forget to have a backup of the originals) in the folder where is the image tool soft Proceed the BAT you want (try DXT3nomips.bat) and after copy paste the converted textures in your A/C (allow overwrite) Regards.

Well, I replaced the textures with DXT3 no mipmaps, to be honest, some of the files were deemed "corrupt" by the program; so I suppose they couldn't be converted. At the end of the day, the problem still persists. See attached. Attachment DeletedThrills and Chills
