I know it's not limited to HJG aircraft, however, (thankfully), I've only seen this happen on my HJG aircraft.
Do you think a reinstall of the aircraft in question, and then if that's a success, then I'd add more...
Any thoughts on that approach?
I think if it it was Graphics Card related, wouldn't it be "system wide?" i.e. every aircraft on FS9 would be affected with this problem.

Hello, That's interesting and weird ! I just converted the exact same repaint dc-8-50_douglas_aircraft_1960_51_n8008d textures to "DXT3nomips" and no warning by the program of any corrupted file. I suggest you to redownload the repaint and test again ! Regards.

I doubt that might help/resolve your problem .... BUT .... you can do no harm trying just in case some form of corruption has occurred .... since that "CAN" (rarely though) happen
"NO" .... not necessarily .... because as has been communicated previously .... 2 types of texture format have been employed by HJG artists over the past 14 years.
These range from DXT3 (with some much less signficant texture details even being formatted according to DXT1 conventions) and which apply to many of our "oldest" textures .... then .... a 32 BIT 8.888 No MIP format which has been applied over the past several years to virtually all "newer" texture uploads.
The latter format is usually a sure resolution to any "blurred" textures .... and which are known to occur with DXT3 formats. Some painters apply this to fuselage and tail features only .... whilst others apply it to these as well as wing features also. There's a bit a "variation of preference" here .... on the part of different painters.
The point/s I'm trying to imply, both here and previously, are ....
(1) I wouldn't have a clue why parts of your model aren't displaying (that's a new one on me and in regard to a model which we know to have been fine since its debut .... 14 years ago)
(2) the flickering you describe probably won't be resolved through texture conversion, but, might be (notice I say "MIGHT" .... because I really don't know for sure) be the result of the way your particular graphics card and/or drivers render/interpret the older/original texture formats .... different things can happen on different PC configurations.
(3) "IF" .... a (correctly) converted texture format does resolve your flickering issue, then, this might signal that what you've been experiencing is applicable to just the old/original DXT3 texture farmat only and on your system. If it happens on "everything" .... then again .... that might be grapgicscard/driver related .... but .... what puzzles me there is that the texture formats employed by HJG are of a hobby standard and no different from those emplioyed by any other FS partie.
You don't seem to specify what (if other) aircraft might be involved here .... BUT .... something else which puzzles me is that you've been using these simulations for some 2-3 years (or more, but, are only just now reporting this experience !!!!
Have you cahanged you system .... or its configuration recently ?
I'll send you my own already converted DC8 SHIP ONE 1958 texture.
I'll also send you my own standard DC8 SHIP ONE 1958 model too.
You should delete what you currently have .... and replace these files with those I send you .... or .... simply download and reinstall everything again if you prefer

"THANKS" for your help Gus .... Your presentation concurrs with with what I've been stating all along .... that there's no problem (that we/HJG can fix) .... and whatever issue might exist, be it file corruption or graphic card/driver related, must be on "his end". In the meantime .... I've sent him replacement files (for both the 3D model .... and texture for DC8 SHIP ONE 1958) .... and which are the same as what's currently downloadable from this website .... save for the/my own texture which I (some time ago) converted to the "32 BIT NO MIP" format I keep referring to and which displays beautifully, despite its age, on my own system. I can't, really, do more that Mark C AKL/NZ

Gus,
Were those textures tested in FSX?
Just curious...

Mark you bring up a great points here. I never knew that. But now that I do, it's very interesting.
I know, I know. It's strange, in that this issue is maybe one week old, give or take.
Aircraft effected:
I haven't tested all HJG A/C but based on the DC8 I suspect the full range of HJG a/c have been affected. I know the 720,/united I think. and the DC-10-30/aeromexico are; along with the Convair, delta livery. I have a hunch they all cannibalize themselves, as far as the texture goes. I don't know that for a fact, as I haven't tested all of the HJG Models on my system. But those that I did test, did exhibit that behavior.
There was one event of significance: This computer was infected with malware, (unbeknownst to me) I downloaded the trial version of Malwarebytes and got it all cleaned up. i.e. Virus/Malware free. My question is: could this "feature" LOL be a result of the infection - even though the computer is healthy as can be?
Via PM? E-mail?
Thanks in advance,

Those textures wiil/should work equally fine in FSX. If your issue has only started ocurring within the last week or so (because we all know this wasn't an issues for you previously), then, I'd encourage to focus on whatever changes have occurred to your system .... and I'd probably recommend starting with your graphics card drivers. In the absence of a (known) problem .... I can't tender any further advice I'm sorry

Very interesting thing happened...
I installed the DC-8 Ship One in FSX and I haven't noticed the texture issue return with the default textures no less, and the smoke effects have came back. Hmmm. Very interesting. I'll never know what what went wrong.
For now, those two issues, haven't shown up.
There is what appears to be fluttering where the spoilers would be. But as long it doesn't impact my flying, I won't have an issue with it.
