After dutyfully updating my system today, WIN7 declared FS9 incompatibel with it. So I went back to the update 3 days before and bingo: FS9 works as ever. I hope that MS will hand out another update that is compatibel with FS9. Kind regards Walter

Over the years I have refrained from constantly updating my systems. If it works...dont fix it!!!! Every now and then you MAY need to update some functionality, but what I have found is you end up with LESS problems keeping your system STABLE by NOT updating it!!!! I have been building computers since the early 90's and can assure you this has always worked for me!

Mike you can uninstall recent updates Take these steps to be certain you want to remove an update: Open Installed Updates by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates. Select the update that you want to remove, and then click Uninstall.

The update responsible is KB3086255 what it does is that anyone using the CD to run FS2004 it kills it dead as its some sort of anti piracy, crazy thing is if you run the No CD FS9.exe your ok, how does that work If you have any games that may be "not legit" it will stop those as well.... So to be safe either do not install it or if its on your system remove at as above

I uninstalled the update and FS tries to run, however in the process windows killed my entire Modules folder, scenery.cfg, terrain.cfg. This is beyond Effed-up. thanks Microsoft, you just ruined about 1.5 GB of FS plus all the money I have invested in payware. Mike

Hi:
My FS9 CD is the original one bought and paid legally. I came over the solution by Windows "problemsolving" and the posibility to go back to a former state of the system. Only one programe I have installed two days ago did disappear. Maybe Mike you did go back to a very early state of your system. You could check if you can undo your changes to the system and go back to e.g. the 7th of september 2015 update of WIN7.
Kind regards
Walter

If only I had known what was going on, I could have gone to a restore point, removed the update and been fine Before I ran FS after the update, my Norton picked up a possible virus. So when FS wouldn't run, I suspected a virus (well, it was...just in the form of a MS update ). Did a reboot, tried FS, system scan, tried FS...you get the picture. Apparently every time i tried to run FS, windows would eat away a bit more of the installation. This went on for a couple of hours. By the time I posted here and found out I was not alone, it was too late; much of FS was missing or corrupted. In all my years of using computers, I've never seen such a schucks up from a software company. Yes, it will take a me awhile to get back to about 90% from my backup files of FS. But I think it's also going to cost some serious money for payware that is now missing keys, etc. Mike

Hi:
Today another "update" appeared with the same effect: FS did not run anymore. So I went back to 7th of september and switched off the auto-update.
BUT:
Some of my work on the Tu-124 of yesterday was gone, so I did this work again, thanks GOD only a question of some 15 minutes.
All the time a thought about that James Bond film about the media-mogul and his saying: "Is the new software-update so full of snags, that people has to buy another software package?" (WIN10???)
Kind regards
Walter

Well if misery loves company.... I posted a warning over on the TDS facebook page. A LOT of people have lost their FS9 installation entirely, or portions like I have. The portions lost range from aircraft, to scenery files, etc...all fairly random losses unfortunately. Has anyone contacted MS to ask what the hell they were doing?? Mike

Knowing M$ .... and in so far as FS9/F2004´s concerned at least (an unsupported product now) .... I regret to say they probably wouldn´t give "a rats big bum" Fortunately I´m unaffected, but then again, like Jim, I don´t update frequently .... OR .... I delay updating until I´m absolutely sure of the integrety of everythihg being offered .... often long after the fact/release. Mark C BOG/CO
