It's been almost 8 years since Garry RUSSELL passed away .... during April 2015.
Some of the HJG community may be too new to have known of him whilst others whom have been associated with us prior to 2015 should remember him well.
Garry was an active and very well known quality FS painter .... specializing primarily, but not exclusively, in liveries for the great classic British jetliner models by DMFS .... and both the great classic British piston and turbo-prop models by RPFS.
He later branched out into FS 3D modelling too .... producing his own BRISTOL SUPER FREIGHTER and CANADAIR CL44 and YUKON aircraft models for FS .... and which both myself and Benoit PLAMONDON assisted in regard to audio development.
Garry also made major contributions to a number of other very popular FS projects too .... namely the AW 650 ARGOSY and HS748 turbo-prop productions by RPFS.
Those whom knew Garry, and his FS work, will undoubtedly agree he was "a perfectionist" .... the authenticity and quality of what he produced being "almost unparalleled" .... and similar could be said too in respect of his "almost equally unrivaled" knowledge of aviation history particularly in regard to those subjects he felt a passion for and which he produced and/or represented for FS.
If anyone in the FS world could justifiably be branded "a walking, talking, encyclopedia and gold mine of aviation knowledge" .... THEN .... that would fairly epitomize Garry
"History" is what Garry was all about .... and is one of the reasons why he was always very keen to ensure representation in regard "variations of period airline/operator liveries" to the extent he did in respect of his FS texturing.
Garry was also a respected member of the CBFS team too .... from around 2006/7.
And he was active within HJG also .... as both a personal friend of 3 of us here and as such being regarded as a valued "ancillary member" of the HJG team too .... and during which time he produced a number of textures for our own models and which continue to grace our downloads pages.
I became personally associated with Garry RUSSELL during 2005 .... per "a chance communication" over at CBFS (this being the period well before HJG came under SIMVIATION ownership) .... and which resulted in my then becoming his "Texture Checker" throughout 2005 and 2006.
Garry may, sadly, have departed our physical FS world .... but .... his spirit continues to dwell among us .... in respect of both memories and the FS legacy he's left behind for everyone else's free FS enjoyment.
Therefore it's with these sentiments in mind, and heart, we've great pleasure presenting what we're branding
"THE GARRY RUSSELL MEMORIAL COLLECTION" of FS textures ....
"in his honor". The first installment of this collection of fine and historic (most of which I recall verifying for him prior to his releasing them all those years ago) is currently being hosted here "at HJG".
Given our past close/personal association and interaction with Garry we're more than confident this's an honor he'd appreciate .... in as much as it's our desire to try'n uphold his honor, and memory, by attempting to keep both his work alive and freely available for everyone else to "easily access".
Each of these textures have been "reconditioned" .... MEANING .... each has been updated from their original/early DXT3 format to the standard and more modern "EXT 32.888 NO MIPS" format employed by HJG since approximately 2007/8. As a result these textures will/"SHOULD" now appear "slightly sharper" (than has possibly been the case with their original releases) in both FS2004 and FSX .... whilst also now being less likely to be subjected to "blurries" that can occur on some systems due to older style texture formatting.
PLEASE NOTE: "NONE" of these textures have otherwise been edited/amended in any way shape or form though. Each remains as Garry produced them .... and as such remain the fine and authentic representation/s Garry intended them to be.
"THANK YOU" Garry for everything you took the time and effort to freely produce for us all.
R.I.P .... and with the comfort and knowledge that your work will remain available for everyone whom wishes to partake of and enjoy it .... and for as long as we can promote and keep it all online here for you "THE GARRY RUSSEL MEMORIAL COLLECTION"Mark C
