In the DC-8-10 download section, the models are broken down with base packs for Ship One (DC-8-10) and the DC-8-11 & DC-8-12 (modified DC-8-11). The Ship One pack includes the textures, so my question relates to the three textures listed as DC-8-11's only: do I understand correctly that these are for either the 11 or 12, not just the 11? If so, which ones were 11's and 12's in the real world, or were all three upgraded at a certain point? Hope that doesn't sound confusing! Thanks.

Herman Thank you Herman. I must have missed some of the information because there is a wealth of it (thanks to Mark!) and I didn't see the forest for the trees. The 12 is physically slightly different with leading edge slats, longer wing span and different tips. So part of my question still remains, namely, are the three liveries representing the 11 or the modified 12? Or am I still missing something?

"THANKS" for chipping in there Herman "YES" .... the 2X DELTA an 1X UNITED textures within the DC-8-10 downloads section can be used with either the DC-9-11 or -12 aircraft base pack (that "UIS" precisely the intention) .... as stated within the DC-8 PANELS INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES/manual .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/8019/hjg-panel-installation-handling-notes.... as well as the DC-8 TEXTURES INVENTORY too .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/6300/hjg-dc8-texture-inventoryBest to use the TEXTURE INVENTORY to determine texture/base pack/model assignments .... and use the manual to determine base pack/model/sound assignments. The reason for the interchangeability in regard to these DC-8-10 (-11/-12) textures is that the DC-10 series were all delivered to DA and UA as -11's (-10 is just the aircraft class/basic model number) .... BUT .... due to their underperformance issues (and you will sense this flying the DC-8-11 versus the DC-8-12 because we;ve accomodated it into the FDE), these aircraft were modified .... "in-service" .... with new drag reducing wing tips and wing slots which resolved most of the original drag related airspeed problems .... and also promoted a slight increase in MTOW respectively also. As Herman sugggests .... a better explanation of this may be found within our DC-8 HISTORY .... PART 1 (DC-8 SHIP ONE 1958 - DC-8-50) tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/774/dc8-digest-1-baby-eightsPART 2 (DC-8 SUPER 61 - DC-8 SUPER 63) tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/768/dc8-digest-super-60-eightsThe DC-8 SUPER 70's are (temporarily) squeezed in here .... until I get time to write PART 3 tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/8139/dc-dedication-first-last-v2DC-8 SHIP ONE 1958 .... the original production aircraft .... was eventually upgraded to DC-8-50 specification, with P&W JT3D-1 engines (to essentially become a -51), but, reatined its DC-8-10/20/30/40 type engine pylons. This difference "IS" incorporated into the DC-8-50 SHIP ONE 3D model we offer .... within the DC-8-50 base pack. Again .... the list of airline liveries/textures appropriate.customised for our DC-8-50 SHIP ONE 3D model (since it did fly with a number of operators after its DOUGLAS career as a test/development aircraft) "are" listed individually within the DC-8 TEXTURE INVENTORY Mark C AKL/NZ

To make life easier still for anyone who may be uncertain .... 1. The following textures apply to DC-8-11/-12 (-10 SERIES) aircraft base packs .... 2. The following textures apply to DC-8-11/-12 (-10 SERIES) aircraft base packs .... For all other information please refer to the above-provided links PLEASE NOTE: Upon just scrutinizing the "DC-8-50" downloads page I have detected that the "CANADIAN PACIFIC AIRLINES CF-CPN 1965" texture .... .... appears to be "missing" (probably dropped between the cracks during a previous update of this particular downloads page). I'm not sure why this's happened .... because it "was" there last year. Hopefully Tony might be able to look at this (reinstate this particular file) when he's time to do so.: Mark C AKL/NZ

Hello again tokolosh;
After reading you initial question again, I have the feeling that what you are asking, has to do with, as to whether the aerodynamic changes to the wing of the DC-8-12 were made to the actual HJG DC-8 Models.
After looking at some screen shots of the DC-8-11 and -12 it appears to me, but I could be wrong, that both models look the same, as far as the wing span and wing tip shape goes. ( as well as the DC-30 and 40)
However, as Mark has mentioned the difference between the various DC-8 models is mainly reflected in the base package FDE's and aircraft CFG's in order to simulate the the above changes in the performance of the aircraft.
I have not taken a look at the DC-8-10 Ship One as of yet, so I can't comment on it.
Also, regarding the mods that were done by Douglas to provide the wing leading edge slot is not simulated on the HJG DC-8-models.

Herman Hi Herman, That is correct. I have now installed one livery for each model and FDE. Thank you, also Mark (your additional comments on the 50 series were useful), for your answers. I am (increasingly) impressed by the way you guys manage this site and with your incredible attention to detail. It's a wonderful service to us all. In my opinion it is this dedication that keeps FS so alive and has contributed to the maturity of the community as it is today.

"THANKS" once again Hermain This's why I ventured into discussing (per my above reply) the performance differences between the realworld unmodified DC-8-11 and the modified DC-8-12 TO FURTHER CLARIFY THIS FOR FS THOUGH (3D model and FDE-wise as is appropriate) .... 1. The DC-8 SHIP ONE 1958 model is "a stand-alone 3D model .... different from those representing the DC-8-10/-20/-30/-40 PAX version 3D models. This particular model features P&W JT3C turbojet engines .... "without the T-rings" .... and also features the lower rear fuselage air brake doors (these work on the basis of the Spoiler keyboard command) as were originally fitted to the first production aircraft prior to engine thrust reversers becoming available. Both of these features are evident within the following imagery .... DC-8 SHIP ONE 1958 - no engine T-ringsDC-8 SHIP ONE 1958 . lower real fuselage air brake door system2. The DC-8-11/-12, -21, -31, -32, -33, -41, -42, and -43 models are actually "one and the same" physically .... no differences, at all, between any of these 3D models .... DC-8-10DC-8-20DC-8-30DC-8-40However .... the FDE for each one "DOES" differ appropriately in regard to engine thrust, aircraft weight, and various other wing/aerodynamic modifications as applied to each of the real world aircraft versions (as best can be represented within FS) .... and by implication so does their FS performance too .... provided these simulations are loaded, and then, flown properly/correctly to start with. See "SECTION 5.00: DC-8 BASIC FLYING GUIDES" of my "DC-8 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES"/manual for the recommended loading and handling of "each individual DC-8 version currently represented by HJG .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/thread/8019/hjg-panel-installation-handling-notesSee also "SECTION 5.01/"RECOMMENDED DC-8 DESCENT & APPROACH TO LANDING PROCEDURES (on the same "SECTION 5.00" page of this manual) for recomended descent and landing handling procedures for each DC-8 class of aircraft too .... and which is equally applicable. 3, The DC-8-21F, 33F, and -43F models are "one and the same" also .... BUT .... these 3D models are recent/new releases/modificactions of the originals which now feature opening/animated port side forward fuselage maindeck cargo doors (these work on the basis of SHIFT E keyboard commands .... rather than the SHIFT (pause) E 2 keyboard commands of the other HJG DC-8F SERIES models) DC-8-20FDC-8-30FDC-8-40F4. The DC-8-50 SHIP ONE and DC-8-50 models are different too (the SHIP ONE DC-8-50 model is contained within the DC-8-51 base pack only) .... featuring DC-8-10 type engine pylons with JT3D SERIES fanjet engines .... DC-8-50 SHIP ONEThe DC-8-50 models feature the standard engine pylon modification with JT3D SERIES fanjet engines .... as applied to all of these aircraft .... DC-8-50All DC-8-50F models are one and the same also .... as per the standard DC-8-50 3D model/s .... but .... feature an animated port side forward fuselage maindeck cargo door (these work on the basis of SHIFT (pause) E 2 keyboard commands .... a little different from those for the -20F/-30F/-40F SERIES) - no image available !!!! I trust this helps clarify/resolve any remaining uncertainties Mark C AKL/NZ
