Previews of Rolls Royce Conway-509 engine sounds for DC-8-40 series.
It was the first by-pass engine (or turbofan) in the world to enter service.

WELL .... or .... should I say "WOW" We´ve got the "SIGHTS" .... and we have the "SOUNDS" too .... so ..... all we´re missing now are the "SMELLS" (of kerosene I mean). Benoit .... with talents like this, which continue to impressing us all the more, with every new FS audio-visual presentation you release .... "IF" you ever figure out how to add/combine virtual smells into these procductions, then we´ll have to patent that particular utility (or whatever) .... and I reckon we might be able to make "A LOT OF MONEY" Folks .... what Benoit´s presented here today is "PART 3" of HJG´s new DC-8 audio upgrade project. This soundpack represents the RR CONWAY 509 fanjet engine .... for DC-8-40 (-41/-42/-43 series) "exclusively". These aircraft were the odd-man-out among the DC-8´s .... the only members of the DC-8 family powered by British produced RR CONWAY engines .... and which also became the very first of the civil fanjet engine series. Whilst identical to the DC-8-30 series .... in terms of its marketed weight options .... the RR CONWAY engine is what stood the -40 series DC-8´s apart. Only 32 DC-8-40´s were ever produced by DOUGLAS.CANADIAN PACIFIC AIRWAYS and TRANS CANADA AIRLINES became the only North American operators to acquire these aircraft .... though a number of other ilines around the would later fly the DC-8-40. As is evident per Benoit´s 2 audio/visual presentations featuring this particular soundpack version .... the British RR CONWAY fanjet engine exhibited "entirely different" sound characteristics than the American produced P&W JT3D-3B and D-7 fanjet engines .... and which was an entirely different sound again from that of preceding P&W JT3C and JT4A series turbojet engine (even the startup "H-O-W-L" of these engines .... faithfully repoduced within this particular soundpack .... manifested a slightly higher pitch tone than that of the DC-8-50 and SUPER 61 fitted JT3D-3B series fanjet engines) .... as will become evident when Benoit previews his forthcomming turbojet soundpacks for the DC-8-10/-20/-30. A liitle more evident .... within the above "flightdeck" perspective audio among these DC-8-40 soundpack presentations .... are some of the revised cockpit sounds element of what will become a new DC-8 Panels Gauges/Core Files package. There will be no changes .... for the moment .... to any of the gauges content of this package, but, its entire sounds content has been completely revised, and refined also, with entirely new .... and much more authentic air cart/air delivery, avionics/inverter ambiance, flap, and gear wind noise samples .... and a whole more .... and which "IS" necessary in order for the gauge sounds element of the DC-8 Panels Gauges/Core Files package to be compatible with each of these new DC-8 soundpacks. A little more information will be forthcomming upon the release of each of Benoit´s following new DC-8 audio visual presentations. "NICE STUFF" Benoit .... "TRULY" Mark C BOG/CO

Fantastic videos and even more fantastic engine-sounds! When I saw the first few seconds of the first video, I thought it will be a Real-Life-video!
I can't wait for the other sounds and their acompaning videos of the Turbojet-Eights to arrive here in the forum and later at the downloads (correction: I can't wait to 'upgrade' the HJG-Eights I have on my harddrive with all those new and coming sound-packs)!

Holy cow. I don't think you could get any closer to reality than these sounds. These are it! The best, bar none.

One day I was running thru the preliminary checklist in FS (don't remember the a/c, and a large diesel truck went by. The smell was like "being there." How about a can of diesl, or kerosene in the room?

HMMMM .... a "solvent abuser" aye (sniff-it-all-up with a d-e-e-p breath) .... now we know how you fly "LOUROSS" Don´t know if my insurance company would be particularly enthusiastic (I´m sue they´d be quite excited though) about the prospect of my having a can of diesel or kerosence inside the house/room .... "SAFETY APPROVED" smoke and fire dectectors installed, and certified, or not Mark C BOG/CO

I think I mentioned this in my promotional text above .... BUT ANYWAY .... The video presentations (of all of these new DC-8 soundpacks so far) demonstrate the "FSX" (only) audio version .... BUT .... there will be separate "S2004" and "FSX" specifi versions of each of these aircraft type/engine type soundpacks. The FS2004 version soundpacks "CANNOT" be used in FSX .... and vice versa .... due to the different sound engines featured within both FS versions. The FSX version audio take advantage of the superior sound engine featured within particular version of FS .... exploiting its unique doppler audio effect, but, which FS2004 cannot offer .... hence the necessity of sepatate FS2004 and FSX specific soundpack versions .... as also applies in the case of Benoít´s recent released new B727 soundpacks, as well as his DC-10 soudpacks too. Given that our DC-8´s do not feature wing/engine view pespectives .... no DC-8 specific wing/cabin view soundpacks will be released for these simulations .... "so far as I´m aware" .... although Benoit might like to correct me accordingly, on this detail, and if necessary Mark C BOG/CO

Yes Herman, they will be available in both FSX/FS2004.
That's correct Mark, flight deck version only at the moment in the absence wing view model.
