Does anyone know of how to add altitude callouts to a panel/aircraft? I checked various panels, sound cfgs, etc that already have the callouts for a hint, but didn't come up with anything. Would like to add this to the RFP 747.

Mike, Try this file:
Boeing Callouts for FSX by Matt Smith wwa2218@live.com
This set of gauges adds Boeing - style approach altitude callouts at the following Radioaltimeter heights:
2500'/1000'/500'/100'/50'/40'/30'/20'/10'
It also includes callouts at:
"Approaching minimums" (~100' above Decision Height setting) "Minimums" (at Decision Height setting).
Heights take into account the landing gear, so at the call of "10" the landing gear will be approximately 10 feet off the ground. This will vary due to the differences in aircraft. I have included two sets of gauges; "CALLOUT_BigJets" will make callouts about 5 feet higher than "CALLOUT_SmallJets".
This work is based on:
CALLOUT GAUGE Version 1 for FSX by Stefan Liebe CALLOUT_SOUND.dll VERSION 3.8.2.0 by Doug Dawson FPDA Boeing Callouts uploaded to Flightsim.com by Jimmy Foong
To Install:
1) Place the intact folder "Callout" into your FSX/Sound folder.
2) Place the 3 gauge files (CALLOUT_BigJets.cab, CALLOUT_SmallJets.cab, CALLOUT_SOUND.DLL) into your FSX/Gauges folder. Do not "extract" the contents of the .cab files.
Add the following entries to the aircraft's Panel.cfg file (back up the old one first). I recommend adding to both the 2D main panel and one of the VC panel window entries:
Replace the XX in each line to renumber the gauges, starting where the original panel.cfg left off. For example, if the last line of the original panel.cfg started with, "gauge25=" you would start replacing the XX below with "26".
For larger jets (747/777) add these lines:
gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SOUND!dsd_xml_sound3, 0,0,0,0, Sound\CALLOUT\Sound.ini gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT2500, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT1000, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT500, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT100, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT50, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT40, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT30, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT20, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUT10, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUTAPPMIN, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_BigJets!CALLOUTMIN, 0,0,0,0
For smaller jets (727/737) add these lines:
gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SOUND!dsd_xml_sound3, 0,0,0,0, Sound\CALLOUT\Sound.ini gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT2500, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT1000, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT500, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT100, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT50, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT40, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT30, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT20, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUT10, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUTMIN, 0,0,0,0 gaugeXX=CALLOUT_SmallJets!CALLOUTAPPMIN, 0,0,0,0
Acknowledgements:
I would like to thank the following...
- Stefan Liebe for his original "CALLOUTv1" gauges, I adapted them with his kind permission. See his original Readme text below.
- Doug Dawson, for his CALLOUT_SOUND.dll VERSION 3.8.2.0, used with his permission.
- Jimmy Foong for the freeware FPDA callouts he uploaded in "cmp777cl.zip" at Flightsim.com. The only changes I made to them was to rename them to match my revised gauges.
Note:
These callouts should work fine in any aircraft that uses the "Decision Height" variable in FSX. Certain payware aircraft (such as the Captain Sim 727) that do not use the "Decision Height" variable will not make proper "Approaching Minimums" and "Minimums" callouts.
Good luck!

CALLOUT GAUGE Version 1 for FSX
by Stefan Liebe
CALLOUT_SOUND.dll VERSION 3.8.2.0
by Doug Dawson
INTRODUCTION ============
This Instrument gives altidue callouts at 2500, 1000,500,400,300,200,100,50,40,30,20 and 10 Ft.
Unfortunately I have no original sound files. So I created my own sound. If you have better sound files, rename your sound files according to the sound files in the sound folder.
Installation: ============= -Extract all files to a temporary file.
-Create a subfolder \CALLOUT\ in the FSX\SOUND folder.
-Move all files *.Wav and the sound.ini in this folder.
-Move the files CALLOUT.CAB and CALLOUT.dll in the folder FSX\GAUGES ****IMPORTANT = DO NOT UNZIP the CALLOUT.CAB FILE************
ADD the gauges to the panel of your aircraft. =============================================
-Make a copy of the existing panel.cfg. You will find it in the folder of your aircraft FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\ "Name of aircraft"\ panel
-Open the panel.cfg with Notepad or editor.
-Now you have to add the gauges to the main panel which is normally [window00].The gauge works only if this window is opend during flight.
-Add the following lines at the end of this part just before [Window01]with copy and paste.
gauge36=CALLOUT_SOUND!dsd_xml_sound3, 0,0,0,0, ./Sound/CALLOUT/Sound.ini gauge38=CALLOUT!CALLOUT2500, 0,0,0,0 gauge39=CALLOUT!CALLOUT1000, 0,0,0,0 gauge40=CALLOUT!CALLOUT500, 0,0,0,0 gauge41=CALLOUT!CALLOUT400, 0,0,0,0 gauge42=CALLOUT!CALLOUT300, 0,0,0,0 gauge43=CALLOUT!CALLOUT200, 0,0,0,0 gauge44=CALLOUT!CALLOUT100, 0,0,0,0 gauge45=CALLOUT!CALLOUT50, 0,0,0,0 gauge46=CALLOUT!CALLOUT40, 0,0,0,0 gauge47=CALLOUT!CALLOUT30, 0,0,0,0 gauge48=CALLOUT!CALLOUT20, 0,0,0,0 gauge49=CALLOUT!CALLOUT10, 0,0,0,0
-Renumber the gauges.Using the next free number. The number (36 in this example) for the first added gauge should be changed to the next succeeding number (if the last/highest entry in your panel file is 35, then you should label the new gaugeset starting with 36 like shown above ) In other cases you must take the next free number instead of the 36 and renumber all gauges accordingly. If two gauges have the same number one of the two won´t work.
-Save the panel.cfg
Thats it,
Have fun.
Copyrights and Disclaimer ============================ This gaugeset is freeware, NOT Public Domain and it is available for your personal use. Without my explicite permission, it may NOT be sold, re-distributed and/or uploaded to another website or bulletin board (in ANY shape or form).
If you want to bundle (part of) this gaugeset with your (freeware !!) panel, you may ONLY do so AFTER my explicite permission and inclusion of this README file AS-IS.
And obviously, installing & using this gauges is at your own risk
Credits ======= - Doug Dawson, for the permission to use his perfect XMLsound gauge (included in this package).
Finaly ======
I hope you enjoy the gauge. If you have questions or suggestions for improvement please let me know. Please read the above carefully befor you contact me reporting any bugs.
Stefan Liebe Germany Email:stefan.liebe@arcor.de
If you can't find it, pm me and give me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. I've been using it for quite some time, and it has 2 different gauges, one for Heavy and one for normal. Just google it and follow the directions. Easy Denny aka Falcon

Some Altitude Calliouts are available as a module, or gauge, with their supporting WAV samples (the actual callouts), that one can easily edit into any PANEL.CFG .... and then chuck its relative gauge and supporting WAV samples into their various FS destination folders. Others .... like those featured in some of the HJG panels (B727, DC-8-70 SERIES, DC-9, DC-10, and L-1011 .... plus the like of BAe 146 and ARJ panels we've both been working on together recently too) are integrated into these panels, to work in conjunction with the RA, and by a more complex means of compilation .... George's forte. Just a word of advice .... Most B747 "classics" weren't equipped with GPWS type automated/"electronic type" Altiude Callouts (I know for a fact our/AIR NZ's and QANTAS's B747-200B's and 300's weren't). On these aircraft and in reality Altitde Callouts were often the job of the F/E .... or other non-hadling/flying pilot during any approach to landing. I do .... of course .... freely acknowledge though these can be helpful in the FS environment .... be they authentic, or not, in regard to any particular panel or aircraft type. I've even have a very TWOTTER panel equipped with them .... but which "really pises-me-off" Mark C AKL/NZ

Mark, that's exactly the sort I wanted: the FO doing the callouts. I know in my sound file there seems to be two types of wav files: those that are more computer sounding, and those with a more human element. It's the latter I would like to bring in.

I could probably asist you with an AIRBUS type GPWS syste .... reading from "TWO THOUSAN FIVE HUNDRED" down to "RETARD/RETARD" and "TEN". It's just a gauge .... the reference for which is added to the PANEL.CFG .... with the actual gauge then going to either the Panel or FS Gauges folder .... and the sounds/callouts going to the FS Sound folder. HOWEVER .... I think what you really need (for the RFP B747) is a BOEING type GPWS system .... which is quite different from that of ether AIRBUS or the late MCDONNELL-DOUGLAS systems. I'll see what I can find out for you .... and will repoer back privately if I'm successful .... just give me a bit of time since we've got a wbsite update about to go to bed and I'm already working on the December update/releases too Mark C AKL/NZ
