I have had for a while a very intermittent "motorboat" sound when using FS9 it causes the frame rate to stutter. Just lately it is always there and now I have lost the jet engine sounds from most of HJG planes! DC9, 146 etc yet on the CV880.990 the engine sounds are as loud as before, odd or what?? I have turned down sound quality to low, I have turned down audio quality to CD 16 bit, I have tried a new 5.1 system in case the old one was playing up. I have tried both the creative card and the onboard sound card, yet it happens which ever is used/enabled. I have run out of ideas on this ....
I put FSX in to the PC a few weeks back on a different drive and it has no sound issues???
Any ideas as I am beginning to think I am not seeing the trees for the woods..

Tony, in your fs9.cfg scroll down to the [SOUND] section and add the following to the list if not already there.
Channels=4 SamplesPerSec=44100 BitsPerSample=16
See if this will help out in fixing your sound issues.

A couple of details that should be checked, if not already checked, are each the following ....
1. Check the SOUND= assignment within the FLTSIM.XX data for each of the aircraft textures this particular audio issue is occuring with .... is it correctly edited in accordance with the Sound folder name inside that particular base pack ? .... "IF" it needs being edited at all (in the case of a Sound folder named "SOUND" no such namimg/renaming or other editing should be necessary). Ordinarily .... any such SOUND= FLTSIM.XX data related error would then result in "no sound at all".
2. In cases where an aircraft base pack Sound folder contains a SOUND.CFG file only and which has been aliased to the Sound folder of another add-on aircraft base pack for its audio source.... if the add-on aircraft base pack source of this audio has been removed, or had its folder name changed, then, you'll still get sound, but, FS will always, in this particular case, automatically default back to the MSFS CESSNA soundpack .... and which, due to the influence of the AIR.FILE data in most HJG aircraft types, "will" sound more like a motorboat than the actual default MSFS CESSNA.
I'd encourage checking your Sound folder configuration/s .... particularly in regard to any SOUND.CFG aliases as well as the source folders to which these aliases have been assigned.
Except for the possibly of some form major corruption of the FS2004 audio engine (which I've never heard of) .... there's no logical reason why your audio should be unimpared in FSX .... yet impaired in FS2004 (and with only some add-on aircraft too if I'm understanding correctly). An audio hardware related issue/fault would also tend to affect both FS versions anyway.
As for the stuttering .... I wouldn't have a clue .... but .... if processing resources associated with FS are being overtaxed, then, such could potentially occur.

Thanks Mark. It had me scratching my head at what was going on, I think I have it running ok now but I have no great faith in it until I have used it a lot... The HJG sounds are back, no idea what happened there???
