I recently had a graphics driver that kept shutting down and recovering. So I downloaded an updated driver from NVIDIA. Now the white lines along side the runways shimmer when viewed from a certain distance. Annoying! Have reset graphics settings in FSX and also in my GPU Dashboard, but can't seem to get it to stop. Even went so far as to install the orginal drivers from when I purchased the GPU. Any Ideas? Thanks ya all. Falcon

Possibly one for Nathan to comment upon .... me thinks Can you reduce or even completely eradicate the undesirable effect through the cards own graphics adjustment and resolution settings .... as well as using those within FSX itself also. Not being an FSX user .... I can't really suggest anything more Mark C AKL/NZ

Start FS go to settings, then display, then hardware, Mip Mapping Quality..... adjust the slider a bit each way and check each time, sounds like your mip level may be wrong after the new drivers.

Tony, I'm using FSX so it is a bit different menu under settings, but I'll check out the process anyway. Thanks!

Hi Falcon, I would reinstall the new driver, but instead of using the Nvidia control panel, download Nvidia Inspector and follow Nick N's settings in the following link. link
You will have to update the settings every time you update the driver, but it's worth it. The linked settings will get the best out of FSX whatever the in game settings are. Let me know if you need any help. Cheers, Nathan.

Thanks Nathan, I tried this a long time ago. Didn't work well with my old system. I use NVidia Precision dashboard for clocking. I just might try this one again tho. I'll let you know. Falcon, aka Denny

Sorry that didn't work Denny, can I get your system spec? Especially, you NVidia card model?
Also just in case, turn off the Anti Aliasing in the Sim and set it using NVidia Precision.
If you need a Mip setting, you will have to add it into the [Display] section of your FSX.cfg

Nathan,
My GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce 9500. And what do I set the Mip setting to? Thanks, Denny

Denny, open up the FSX.cfg and find the [Display] section. Add the following line to it.... MipBias=6 You could also try 4 or 3 even. Just a quick thought, when you updated the driver, did you check that it didn't change your screen resolution and that its on 32bit colours not 16. Also, make sure that Anti Aliasing is off in the Sim and on in NVidia Precision. If all else fails, try deleting the FSX.cfg and starting again. It will mean that you will have to put the tweaks back in but sometimes it is worth starting afresh. Also, if you where getting a lot of driver crashes it could be the card. If you can get a can of compressed gas for cleaning circuit boards, take the card out and give it a good clean to get rid of all the dust may help. Cheers, Nathan.

Hi Nathan, I'm using FSX Steam, so I'll try the Mip setting. Thanks for the info. Yes I clean my entire cpu quite regularly, with my shop air compressor, (not at 150lbs of pressure however) as it helps to run cooler. My main problem is this is an old system, and the Processor is slow, only dual core 2.6GHz. I think one of the problems I'm having now is I have added a incredible number of AI's and plans. Use to be able to set FSX at about 50% of AI's, but now it will stall out at that. I have a feeling I need to do a clean uninstall on FSX, reinstall, and start adding stuff back from back up but not get carried away. I do notice that the menu of the NVIDIA Control Panel is slightly different from the older version driver I had. Can't seem to find the original driver that came with the GPU. Thanks for your help and I will try the MIPBias and see how it goes. Denny

A screenshot of your problem can tell us a lot....still not sure exactly what you are seeing in the sim. Might help with troubleshooting.

Hey Hornit, Here is a pic of the jagged lines on the fuselages of the aircraft. Use to be completely smooth. Also this doesn't show, but the white line markings on the runway when viewed from a distance are moving back and forth. Don't know what changed except for my display drivers. Denny, that doesn't look like a Mip problem, that is defiantly an Anti Aliasing (AA) problem. A Mip problem would show shimering scenery as it adjusts the size of the colour dots that make up the picture. When you updated the driver it would have deleted your NVidia Precision settings so you will need to re add the AA setting. That should fix it Cheers, Nathan. ps: Just be careful using an air compressor as it doesn't remove the moisture out of the air first. You could be spraying everything with a fine mist

THANKS Nathan, First of all, I have the shimmering scenery also, esp. runway markings. Secondly it did not delete my Precision Dash board. I have so much crap going on with it now, I think that a system recovery or a new clean install is the only answer. Maybe a faster processor just for shts and grins. Denny
ps: as an after thought, I have Anti Aliasing turned off in FSX, and also in the NVIDIA Conrtol Panel settings. Maybe that's whats wrong? I thought that one did need AA.

Nathan, I went back thru the Nvidia Control panel and inspected stuff line by line. Reset things they way this one suggested, and then turned on AA in FSX and guess what. Running as should with decent frame rates and great graphics. Thanks for you assistance. I think the setting for the Mipmap you gave me helped that part. Thanks again and blessings to you down under.
