I have to agree with Mike. I am actually considering just reformating my hard drive, reload Vista OS with only the bare minimum of programs needed, and reload FSX and FS9 on it. At present I have corrected some things on this ole bird, and she's humming along quite nicely. In fact, I flew yesterday afternoon and my normal settings with frame rates at very acceptable levels. So I've kind of put the deal on hold. I think I should just by my wife and new wireless printer, as mine is also 11 years old, and call it good as she is running a 4 year old laptop with 10. Here is the picture of St. Maateen TNCM yesterday with the AI's set accordingly and the water settings on high! Attachment Deleted

I also foresee an issue cropping up again with regard to OS's: lack of browser support. I ended up going to a new OS as much of the features, and even the browser would no longer function with the old OS; I believe it was XP. Of course one could have two systems; one for FS and one for everything else. What I worry about is loss of connectivity for programs like Radar Contact, Active Sky, etc. In a pessimistic mood today I guess. Mike

I'm pretty much in the same boat too Mike .... and when this rig (or rather its offline backup) "lets go" .... then so do I too I don't want to be doing this (FS) forever .... since after 16 years of "association" with HJG it feels as though I have been doing it for a lifetime. I never went to FSX .... and I certainly won't be going to P3D either. I will be grounded eventually .... folding my virtual wings "by personal choice" or otherwise having them clipped for me "by circumstances", but, there's still a fir bit I want to try'n to get out/accomplish before being overtaken by either destiny Mark C AKL/NZ

Thanks Guys, I really appreciate the input and thoughts on the future of simming. Mike I already have problems with browsers. I'm running an old version of Firefox on this Vista OS, and have to set it not to update, along with Adobe, and Java. All 3 are old programs as Vista will not handle the newer versions. Even had to go to a antivirus that is still compatible with XP2. So, now that it appears my old system is humming along, I'm going to put in a Quad Core (used) AMD processor to speed things up a bit and live with it. They no longer make a processor that fits into my AM2 socket! I have access to a computer Guild, that has many good used parts for older systems now that I was searching due to this forum, and I thank each and every one of you. The problem I see is that I will be very sad that I can't communicate with you from all over the world. I have so enjoyed all of you. Thanks Denny aka Falcon

Hello, @ Mike Monce and aerofotoWill no go in great explainations but I know that FS2004 will run with no problems under all the latest Win OS (even Windows 10 Enterprise) For the CD N°4 the trick is simple with the NO CD exe Some like to stay under WinXP and it's great for FS2004 but be warn about the new hardwares:No more new (from time going) mother boards support XP (no more pilots available) and same for graphic cards!! If you want more explainations and solutions for use FS2004 with latest Win OS check the Avsim forums ... Hope it's help Regards.

I have 2004 running with no problems on Win10, the only caveat is as Gus said, the nocd patch because Win10 has no support for the DRM FS9 uses, keep the old exe tho, as some payware need it as a check at install (PMDG for one).

Denny, just be careful replacing the CPU as your computer will have all the drivers loaded for the old one and may have problems with conflicts. Make sure that you read up on it first, there is plenty of advice out there, but make sure you back everything up. Having upgraded our machines a lot in the past I would recommend a clean install of Windows and starting from scratch, that way you would be rid of anything that can create a conflict. But as I was saying, if that is not possible, read up and back up.
Good luck and have fun with your faster machine,
Cheers,
Nathan.

Thanks Nathan, turns out the processor that the "Computer Guru" came up with would not work in my machine. In fact I can't run a quad core cpu. And the
processor I have is the fastest one they made at the time. However, I have cleaned up the system, and it is running quiet nice. Only have issues when I am
in large aerodromes, so I can just cut the AI down to 20% in lieu of 40% and the frame rates are acceptable to me anyway. After all my bride says it's just a game! Oh my it's hard sometimes to hear that one! Take care, and thanks for the info. Are you using FSX? I need to replace my sim1.dll file. but since
it's licensed there is nothing available out there but to reload the program, and I have way to much on it to do that again. It fails sometimes, not all
but sometimes.
